We came from Tierra Patagonia which was sublime. This hotel was a big disappointment. The rooms desperately need to be redone. The bathroom is tiny and the sink is for very short people. there are hardly any outlets. The "furniture" on my so-called "patio" was all broken, and never repaired. The food is OK--not bad, not great and the menu gets tired day after day--you can ask for the special menu....I watched the bartender make me a drink--a dry martini. He took his fingers into the olive jar and pulled out an olive, and then stirred my drink with his fingers. The good things I can say about this were the excursions---although many were canceled due to rain--right rain! The excursion to the salt sea---you need to wear some kind of shoe to protect your feet from being ripped up by the salt---not to mention your body when you fall and get stabbed by salt. But the altiplano lagoon was fabulous as was the Salar da atacama. This place is in SERIOUS NEED of upgrade! I will say the front desk staff is excellent and very helpful.....
Wined and dined in the desert !
Our first stay at a Tierra property and it was a pretty good experince. The first thing we did was to sit down and work out what trips that we wanted to do whilst staying at the resort. We sorted this out and then got to our room which was really well laid out on a ground floor with the volcanoes in the distance. Room facilities were great with an outdoor shower as well as one inside. Plenty of water left in the room as well which is always appreciated and a nice touch is that you get given a metal flask for your water rather than using plastic bottles. Back to the trips and we did most of the ones available and had a different expert guide for each trip rater than one guide as we did at Vira Vira. All the trips were really enjoyable but 2 that I have to make a mention off were the walking trip with Freddie and the cycle to the salt lakes with Ramona. dining is held in the large reception area were you can dine with others or on a table for 2. Food was excellent but usually came in massive portions so be warned! Drinks are included as part of your stay so you can have cocktails or wine whichever is your preference but there is a premium drinks list that you have to pay extra for so just be aware when ordering. A couple of mentions here for Ceaser behind the bar who makes the best cocktails and Alahandro who was one of the restaurant managers cum Semillion, he has a passion for red wine and we enjoyed talking about the various varieties on offer in Chile. Pool area was very relaxing although the water was still a bit cold for my liking. As an alternative they have an indoor pool with Spa jets. Saunas and comfy loungers completes the look but you can see these from the photos on their website. A great resort but again its the staff that make this place as they are so friendly and cannot do enough for the guests.
Fantastic property in amazing locale!
This was our second stay at a Tierra property and we were not disappointed. The hotel is lovely, the guides are expert and knowledgeable, the food is incredible, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. We visited the week that everything was closing due to the coronavirus. The staff went out of their way to make a horrible situation better. Fantastic vacation in extraordinary circumstances thanks to the expert team at Tierra Atacama.
An excellent travel experience!
The Tierra Atacama is a boutique eco property on the periphery of San Pedro de Atacama in Chile. It is a resort combining outdoor adventure with comfort, hospitality and excellent service. The accommodations are clean and spacious and local materials are utilized to make furnishings. The Sunday night we arrived they had an extensive barbeque buffet planned which was delicious and really over the top. They also have a comprehensive spa which is very relaxing at the end of the day or during down time in the afternoon. The wide range of excursions include visits to the sand dunes, the salt flats [a full day], Moon Valley, Rainbow Valley, and on the last day, a visit to the geysers with an outdoor lunch prepared there. The salt flats is all day but worth seeing. The geysers is an early start but is usually planned for your last day. The Tierra Atacama combines a level of high activity vs. total relaxation. One of the guides, Carolina, was extremely pleasant and very knowledgeable. Back at the resort, there is an attractive pool and jacuzzi which are very pleasant at the end of the day with a drink. The restaurant has a wonderful ambience, the staff is friendly and for the most part bilingual. They have an impressively stocked bar. The food portions are adequate and the drinks are delicious. You can go into town to shop for local handicrafts. In summary, the warm hospitality, excellent food and service and the sense of adventure made our visit extraordinary!
Great relaxing trip
We just returned from 4 nights and had a great time. We had our 3 month old son with us and they were so welcoming and helpful. Claudia made us feel right at home, and they made sure our excursions were just us in the van in case our little guy needed extra time. While we could not do all of the excursions because of the altitude, we got to relax and enjoy the pool, drinks and beautiful scenery at the hotel during the day. The bar staff took great care of us with delicious mango mojitos, and the food was always amazing. Sadly the full moon walk was canceled due to weather, but nothing they could do about that. We were there on a Sunday night for the outdoor bbq which was an extra special treat. Thank you for such a great trip!
