Awasi Atacama experience
An unbelievable experience at Awasi Atacama. 10/10. From the pickup at Calama, outstanding accommodation, superb cuisine, fantastic tours, beautiful staff - this was a trip of a lifetime. Attention to detail was amazing. The geography is remarkably diverse and with your personal guide and vehicle, the whole region can be explored. From a bike ride to salt lakes, multiple treks, geysers, natural hot springs, diverse flora and fauna, this experience is well worth considering. Special thanks to our sensational guide Marco - an absolute gem with great enthusiasm and knowledge. The cuisine was something to behold, made more special by the great personalities of the senior staff, particularly Paula and Catalina. Our sommelier, Gabriela, was an absolute delight. Her knowledge of wine was remarkable and endearing personality made evening meals thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks also to Christian, Angel, Max, Carlos, Erika and Naomi for their expert service. The managerial staff, Nicholas and Brian, are to be commended on their attentiveness. We look forward to visiting the othe Awasi resorts in South America. You will not be disappointed. Randall
Desert Fun and Adventure in Friendly Luxury
Not knowing what to expect, but of course the name Relais—the experience was more...much more. It was a unique resort in the desert of San Pedro with luxurious hut accommodations. The staff were very well trained but kept their boundaries. The expeditions snd choice of expeditions were varied and well led with your private guide. A must for those who feel they have traveled the world and also enjoy some exercise.
Absolut amazing stay at Awasi Atacama!
After coming from a four week journey through Bolivia my husband and I stayed five nights at Awasi Atacama and it was unbelievable beautiful!! The whole staff was super friendly and we experienced a complete paradise in the middle of San Pedro de Atacama!! We had a private guide (Christian) who really looked great after us and the whole stay was perfectly tailor-made. I myself was ill (from Bolivia) the first days and I got a variety of helpful teas and special food from the staff. They really helped me recovering. We enjoyed every second and could really recommend Awasi Atacama. It's worth it!!
Perfect resort for Atacama
The Awasi hotel is beautiful, totally in keeping with the surroundings, adobe suites, natural construction using stone, trees, thatch, bamboo. Lovely pool, ironically the highest pressure shower in the world in the driest desert in the world! The staff were absolutely charming: Catalina the restaurant manager, Angel our waiter, Gabriella the sommelier, and manager Christobel. We had the most incredible private guide: Felipe, who is knowledgeable, interesting, enthusiastic, knows about plants, trees, local medicines, geology. Our trips included valley of the moon, valley of death, salt lake with flamingos, hot water baths, geysers at altitude (short of breath!) followed by breakfast cooked by Felipe. We also visited the little village Tocaneo with a 16th century Spanish church and nunnery and wonderful irrigated fruit and vegetable gardens. The night sky is amazing with no pollution, artificial light or humidity), and we loved star gazing experience with Pablo. Unbeatable!
It’s the staff that make it (and the location / food / rooms)
At a glance: One of the very nicest places we have stayed and made so by the staff all of whom were truly exceptional. Personal service is so often promised and not delivered - but here it is! There are a few high end choices in San Pedro / Atacama and having seen the tour buses from Alto moving off in groups and seen the number of rooms and therefore guests at Explora we know we made the right choice - a small number of rooms - now all together on one site. A personal guide / driver so no tour groups! Highly personal thoughtful service. The hotel also has easy walking access into the centre of the town - with the downside being perhaps the loss of views that the Atlo and Explora have from their properties - but of course the plan is to explore not stay at the property. We had a round room with super comfy bed (didn’t feel like two beds zipped together that so many hotels seem to use these days) and a great large bathroom - sunken tub (may be harder for some to get in and out of) and separate shower plus outdoor courtyard shower. L’occitane toiletries. Filtered water in cool jugs in the room and aluminum water bottles given to each guest - no plastic bottles of water - so no waste. Not the most modern designer room (eg Aman) but a good size, large bathroom and separate dressing room. Excellent food and wine - with a short menu and always flexibility. Wine as you would expect good wine with a knowledgeable sommelier. There was a great wine tasting hour while we were there. At our first meal we asked for sparking water and then that was offered as first choice at each meal. On our last night - we were only there for 4 nights - a special tasting menu had been designed and a special table set. Good breakfast - all you would expect - fresh eggs as you want them. Lunch choice - always a soup, salad and pasta dish plus the menu and flexibility to provide a sandwich etc. delicious octopus and avocado salad. Snacks / tea / sandwiches available all afternoon. And even a packed lunch to take to the airport. Observatory nearby at a private venue to go to after dinner - good telescope and amazing star gazing. Last and perhaps most importantly our guide ‘Jota’. A guide can make or break a trip and ‘Jota’ made our trip. He was fabulous: knowledgeable, helpful and thoughtful. Trips to geysers (breakfast cooked on location) valleys, horse riding and archeological sites all included.
