Lake District holiday highlights

Puerto Varas, a small enclave of Germany in the heart of Chile, has a beautiful setting on the edge of Lake Llanquihue, opposite the perfect cone of the Osorno Volcano and the peaks of Mount Calbuco and Tronador. The strong German influence can be witnessed in the city’s charming architecture including the beautiful Puerto Varas Church and the German bakeries that are scattered throughout the town. The town acts as a base from which to explore the lakes, forests and mountains of the region on foot, horseback or bike.

From the Chilean Lake District settlement of Puerto Varas you can journey across the Andes by road and boat to the Argentinian town of Bariloche.
