Inclusive adventure stay for ultimate Easter Island experience!
Explora Rapa Nui is the best place to stay on Easter Island if you’re looking for an inclusive adventure experience, and for many this is the ideal way to savor this unique & elusive place. The lodge is more remotely located -- about 15 to 20 min drive from town -- so you do feel a bit removed from the local culture & vibe of Hanga Roa, but this disadvantage comes at the perk of getting the most beautiful views you’ll find on the island. All rooms face the ocean, and the panoramic windows in the dining area mean you’ll accompany meals with views to the sea or nearby extinct volcanoes too. Given the island location, some are surprised that rooms do not have balconies or outdoor space, nor is there outdoor seating during meals. But being a volcanic island in the middle of the Pacific, Easter Island winds make themselves known much of the year! The outdoor pool area is one of the most inviting spots at Explora and a wonderful place to relax, get some fresh air, and take in the scenery in between or after excursions. The essence of Explora though is its explorations, and you’ll spend most of your time outside the lodge visiting the various archaeological sites via foot, bike or boat (snorkeling!). There are typically a few great choices per day, though it sometimes feels like there is an agenda at play to encourage guests to do certain activities. The flexibility is nice though, and there’s often two ways to experience the same site: one more active with walking/biking option to get your blood flowing and the other overland by vehicle for those who want more time to take photos or get broader info from the guides. This means if you are feeling more active and your travel partner is not, you can even split up for the morning or afternoon and keep everyone satisfied! The island is relatively flat so don’t expect a ton of hiking, especially compared to Patagonia, but from Explora you can hike to the highest point on the island, Terevaka, or do a full-day hike of the northern coast, which is more off the beaten path and isn’t accessible by vehicle. There’s no horseback riding available from this Explora. You can experience the island's highlights in 3 nights but 4 nights is great if you want to do one of the aforementioned hikes or simply take some time to relax on the lodge or at one of the beaches. Overall, Explora is a fantastic place to stay on Easter Island. You’ll rest your head in the nicest accommodations on the island; have more flexibility in choosing excursions daily depending on your interests, weather conditions, and level of activity; have the opportunity to meet like-minded travelers; and be well taken care of by staff so that you can relax & enjoy to the fullest. It’s less appealing for those who want private guided excursions, would like some leisure time for independent exploration, or want to be closer to town to experience the local culture or dine at different restaurants.
Enchanting, mystical, beautiful place
The island of Eastern Island is just beautiful. Surrounded by beautiful deep blue waters. The hotel is beautifully designed for people who love exploration, And excellent service. The view from the rooms tempts to stay in and watch, but the Enthusiastic guides And the sites beckon you to go out and explore. All levels of explorations are available. The lobby, donning room are inviting and very comfortable. The chef and the kitchen stuff are very good. Being a vegetarian they went out of their way to cook for me.
Great Experiences: Hotu Iti and Rano Kau expeditions
First of all, all the team in the hotel were awesome. very attentive, friendly and professional. I had an incredible experience discovering Rapanui with Mea mea and Teata. Both guides in the "Explora" hotel! I was part of a private excursion together with other 3 people from Tahiti and the USA. All were very kind and our guide was capable to explain to us all perfectly and also to show us some hidden trails throughout the island. Both guides were locals, so also they answer many questions regarding how is the normal life in Rapanui. Thank you very much for your help and time.
What better way to submerge yourself into all things Rapa Nui
Explore Rara Nui is an all inclusive experience. An exceptional experience at that. The hotel is everything you would expect from a highly starred hotel - excellent food, superb service - all necessities available throughout the day. A lovely pool and massage area. A lecture theatre used very effectively. Local musicians and dance groups visit all supporting the Rapa Nui experience. In one area this hotel stands out and that is the offer of a range of half or full day trips around the island, be they by people mover, bicycle or on foot, each excursion is accompanied by a passionate native guide, offering a wealth of knowledge, filling in the gaps of knowledge left over the years of reading about the island. Having now returned to the UK I feel my understanding of island and its origins beyond geological, its people and how the society has evolved is much fuller. I cannot commend a stay at Explora Rapa Nui at anything less that being in the clouds. It was superb in every respect. Thank you so much to all the Hotel.
We stayed four nights and felt that this was a reasonable amount of time and would recommend this. Weather was not an issue, but if it was, the loss of a day of touring would still be an adequate amount of time. The staff were very friendly and most helpful. They seemed to take a genuine interest in their guests. It seemed like they were willing to accommodate any reasonable request that you might have, no matter how small and when they did, it was beyond your expectations. Our room was very comfortable. We were extremely impressed with the extra attention that the cleaning staff paid to the room. The guides for the excursions did a great job. Our tour groups were small, anywhere from three to five people. The way the tours are arranged, you get to meet other fellow travelers. After a couple of tours, you start to have a lot of fellow travels to socialize with when back at the lodge, which was very nice.
