This tour is unique. The guides present the sights based upon their experiences on the best time of day and sequence to understand the historical events. They have a blend of professional archeologist information and native traditional histories.
Explora Rapa Nui
We loved our 4 night stay at Explora Rapa Nui. The hotel is spectacular, the food incredible, and the “explorations” had just the right amount of challenge, and fun. But most of all, we loved the staff. They make it wonderful. We followed this with 6 nights at Explora Patagonia, same wonderful experience.
Rapa Nui Magic
Explora Rapa Nui was a gorgeous lodge, very comfortable rooms, lounge areas & excellent bar. The use of local fish & tropical fruits was a delicious surprise after mainland Chile. The guides were very informative & hikes were excellent- especially the caves. A truly amazing island.
Worth the splurge
Wonderful package to combine outdoor activity, ethnographic intrigue, stone-age artistry with comfort, excellent service and great food. An unexpected bonus was the view from the room--green slopes down to the Ocean and at night the starts without light contamination.
Good Tours, Poor on Hotel Basics
Good points: The hotel staff and guide staff are pleasant and efficient. Most tours are organized on a half day schedule so you can decide on a preferred sequence for your stay. Tours can be strenuous or relaxed. Guides are knowledgable and have character. Bad points: Poor food, repeatedly overcooked chicken and fish despite several reminders; flavor and ingredient combinations that just didn’t work; and an unchanging breakfast buffet with low-quality bacon and a few cold cuts, granola. In four days our group of nine only encountered one main course we were enthused about (a roast pork). For this price range, the room is a huge disappointment. Built with cheap materials (slatted raw wood, prefab cement footer walls, polished cement flooring), busy-looking, and crowded (less than 25 sqm, no balcony). It may have been clean but didn’t feel so. In the outdoor corridor, dead cockroaches were left over 24 hours until I called their attention. The public area is nothing much. Guides and hotel staff are constantly carrying on loud conversations (mostly among each other) that make relaxing difficult. On our first meal a plague of flies entered the living/dining areas and could never quite be eliminated for the rest of our stay. The swimming pool is uninviting, and there are really no other leisure facilities, though one of our group of nine had a good massage. There are few choices on Easter Island and operating costs must be high. Explora has some good features so long as you know what you’re getting.
