We booked a nights stay here following a recommendation from a friend who knows the area well. We only stopped here on route to our safari, and wow were we impressed. The hotel blew us away. Such a beautiful and relaxing place. Every thought had been made to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The room was spacious, modern, with a beautiful swim to room set up. The food and wine on offer was impressive and the service excellent also. The only thing we would have changed is to have stayed longer here!!
Our third visit to SA and we wanted to go somewhere different. A friend of a friend recommended this so-called destination hotel so we added it to our 4 stop itinerary. The hotel is situated in a residential neighbourhood so it has no views other than the roofs of other houses. One way up the street looked okish, the other towards the town centre didn't. Robertson itself is not a tourist destination as there is nothing to see in the town which looks like it's on its way to being on its last legs. We booked our 3 night stay last July which the hotel only confirmed in December. We booked a Queen sized room, not appreciating what that was ( the hotel says the measurements of the room are on the website but we are not architects and thought we were justing booking a room). It was a room just off reception in which a cat could not be swung. To make matters worse the toilet was behind a petition with no door just behind the head of the bed. Call us old fashioned but my wife and I don't need to hear each other go to the toilet, let alone be in the same room when we go. We complained and thankfully were put into a bigger room for the first and third nights of our stay. The bigger rooms were only ok. The decking outside was stained with bird muck and the pool running outside the room was not properly cleaned. For the middle night when we stayed in the Queen sized room when we used the toilet the other of us stayed outside in reception. Not ideal. The hotel manager presented us with the email traffic between us which she said showed we got what we booked. It did no such thing. Presenting us with a pile of papers at breakfast and saying, in effect, the fault was ours was a crass way of dealing with our complaint. A positive was the food, especially the dinner, and the friendly restaurant service. So the three stars is an average of 1 star for the stay and 5 for the food. So go eat if you're hungry but don't stay. But you will find better places to both eat and stay in the area.

Hotel in the Western Cape, South Africa
The Robertson Small Hotel is one of the most delightful hotels I have stayed in. A charming 19th house colonial style house with cool verandas has been turned into a chic boutique hotel with a stylish well maintained garden, super tasteful rooms, delightful staff and great food and wine. What more could one ask for? Also good spa treatments
