Great location with lovely gardens
The out of town location has the advantage of greater security and quiet surroundings. Staff are exceptionally friendly, rooms are large and well equipped and the dining room serves excellent food. Parking is quite far from the rooms, but when they remember to charge the golf cart batteries that is not an issue. The gas fireplace in the room works well and looks natural.
Spier Weekend Getaway
What a gorgeous weekend. Even though it was icy cold this weekend, the fireplace in our bedroom made our stay. We managed to cycle, walk, make use of the Spa facilities. Everything is done to high standards. Wonderful for families too...wide open safe spaces. Well appointed rooms.
Indulgent and restorative family escape
Spier hotel is set amongst acres of beautiful gardens, bike trails and farmlands. Hotel staff provided us with bikes for the whole family (including our 3 year old). We used the bikes to explore the riverside gardens, and to visit the owls and piglets on the far side of the farm. Afterwards we picnicked on gourmet artisan pizza from Vardas smokehouse. Our room was expansive, with a private garden and indoor fireplace, allowing us to rest well. Staff were lovely and served us delicious breakfast and supper in the dining room lined with fabulous local art. Highly recommend a visit.
A lovely breakaway
We had a lovely stay at the hotel. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to ensure that we had a relaxing trip. There is so much to see and do at Spier, from the art on display, to wine-tasting and Eagle Encounters. The property is immaculate and some beautiful paths to get lost on. The hotel food, breakfast and dinner were delicious and the room we stayed in was lovely. I would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing treat to yourself!
Lovely hotel, staff and food
My friend and I travelled to South Africa from the UK. We stayed at the Spier hotel for 2 nights. On arrival we were welcomed by very friendly staff and received a glass of wine!! This property is so lovely and very large, so we enjoyed exploring all its facilities. We loved our room and it’s farm style, which was a change from the other places we’d stayed in SA. One thing I would say is we had stairs to get in to the property, so if you have mobility issues, make sure you contact the hotel before arrival. Whilst our stay, we paid to do the Segway tour, which was so much fun! I’d never been on one before, but enjoyed it and the guys that work their were so friendly and supportive! We had bed and breakfast board, and the breakfast was amazing, so fresh! All the food we had whist at Spier was amazing! We are not the biggest wine drinkers, so originally, we wasn’t going to come to Stellenbosch, however I’m glad we did a couple nights because the hotel has more to offer than wine. Although, we did enjoy the complementary wine tasting! The staff were very lovely and recommended a few for us to try! I’d recommend staying here as we loved it. If you’re a big wine drinker, than I’d recommend a longer stay! If not, then this is still a lush hotel to visit for a couple of days to rest and relax!
