We spent the last few days in South Africa before the Covid-19 shutdown at Spier. Words cannot express how wonderful the staff and management was during this difficult time. Excellent service, amazing food, wine, and accommodations, and lots of sunshine and fresh air on a most beautiful estate. Highly recommended! Even while the world was shutting down, they put their (toward the end very few) guests first.
Outstanding place, wonderful staff
We just loved it here, the winery is beautiful, so many different venues and places to see and enjoy - it is not only a Hotel but a huge, beautiful park with an unbelievable gorgeous arts collection; the food is very yummy and the wine of course as well. We will come back! Thank you for this unforgetable stay. This is an outstanding place and the whole staff is just wonderful.
Yet another wonderful stay
We have just returned from our fourth stay at Spier. This has become our ‘go to’ location in Stellenbosch such is the guarantee of comfort and service. The entire staff at all levels are consummate professionals. Excellent standards of food and beverages. As I’ve stated in previous review you can chose to just get lost here and not venture outside the grounds. Sincerest thanks and congratulations to Ms Debbie Lee Godfrey.
Great Midweek Visit
Great stay, professionals service. Well kept and managed hotel with a great view on reducing their impact on the environment. Would recommend for a holiday at any time! Great availability of entertainment and activities.
Great for the kids! Bathrooms could use a refresh!
My husband, two young daughters, and I stayed here for 2 nights in February 2020. When we arrived, there was a large conference so parking was not close to the hotel entrance. The staff was top notch - everyone from the front desk to restaurants to kids club to spa - can't say enough about the wonderful people working there. We had dinner one night at Vadas - so yummy! However, there were not enough high chairs to go around. We ate the second night at the Hotel Restaurant - absolutely delicious. Breakfast was great too. Our girls spent a morning at the Kids Club and had a great time. I went to the spa - it was a very affordable, relaxing experience. We used the golf carts to get around because my husband doesn't have a great back - never took more than a couple minutes for one to arrive. We did the complimentary wine tasting one afternoon, including the grape juice for the kids. My only real critique is that the bathroom was worn, especially the bathtub. The door handle for the bathroom was very low, so our almost 2-year-old was very excited to play with it; however, I was concerned she was going to lock herself in the bathroom! We tried using the pool but it was too cold! This was a common experience for us across South Africa. Overall, perfect 2-night stay! Would recommend.
