A lovely breakaway
We had a lovely stay at the hotel. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to ensure that we had a relaxing trip. There is so much to see and do at Spier, from the art on display, to wine-tasting and Eagle Encounters. The property is immaculate and some beautiful paths to get lost on. The hotel food, breakfast and dinner were delicious and the room we stayed in was lovely. I would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing treat to yourself!
Lovely hotel, staff and food
My friend and I travelled to South Africa from the UK. We stayed at the Spier hotel for 2 nights. On arrival we were welcomed by very friendly staff and received a glass of wine!! This property is so lovely and very large, so we enjoyed exploring all its facilities. We loved our room and it’s farm style, which was a change from the other places we’d stayed in SA. One thing I would say is we had stairs to get in to the property, so if you have mobility issues, make sure you contact the hotel before arrival. Whilst our stay, we paid to do the Segway tour, which was so much fun! I’d never been on one before, but enjoyed it and the guys that work their were so friendly and supportive! We had bed and breakfast board, and the breakfast was amazing, so fresh! All the food we had whist at Spier was amazing! We are not the biggest wine drinkers, so originally, we wasn’t going to come to Stellenbosch, however I’m glad we did a couple nights because the hotel has more to offer than wine. Although, we did enjoy the complementary wine tasting! The staff were very lovely and recommended a few for us to try! I’d recommend staying here as we loved it. If you’re a big wine drinker, than I’d recommend a longer stay! If not, then this is still a lush hotel to visit for a couple of days to rest and relax!
Warmest place ever!
I travelled a lot and rarely I have come to such a wonderful place. The complex is huge and offers several restaurants and bars and wine tasting place. The staff as mentioned in so many comments before are some of the friendliest I have encounter travelling overall. The food was delicious and for the price we paid to stay there it was absolutely top quality of everything! Seems like getting a 6 Star service for a 3 star price! We will definitely be back!
Rooms need updating
Grounds and the hotel lobby were beautiful. The estate is huge, so expect a lot of people during peak season. There's lots to do within the estate itself, including a couple of restaurants. When we went for the wine tasting, we had to queue for an hour and the tasting was rushed. The waiter spilled the wine at our table. Rooms and bathrooms need updating, but were spotless.
We spent the last few days in South Africa before the Covid-19 shutdown at Spier. Words cannot express how wonderful the staff and management was during this difficult time. Excellent service, amazing food, wine, and accommodations, and lots of sunshine and fresh air on a most beautiful estate. Highly recommended! Even while the world was shutting down, they put their (toward the end very few) guests first.
