Really nice stay
The best thing about Hog Hollow has to be the beautiful view from the deck. If you want somewhere in a lovely setting to relax, this is a great option. It’s next door to Monkeyland and Birds of Eden, both are well worth a visit. Staff were excellent and the food was fantastic.
Fabulous hotel and location
Real personal touch here. Rooms are beautiful - you feel like you are in the rainforest - light your log fire for a cosy eve. Food excellent and friendly service. Even clean your car each night Can have communal dining which recommend as great way to meet people and get ideas for days out in the area Or eat on your own if you don’t want to mingle
A little bit of paradise
We loved our three night stay at Hog Hollow. We were greeted with fizz on arrival while we checked in and watched vervet monkeys scamper over the awning. The setting is absolutely beautiful, looking over a stunning forest. Our room (2) was a little walk away from the main building and quite private, with a view over a small patch of lawn and the forest (a family of baboons walked across the grass on the last day!) It was spacious with a large bed and sitting area and spacious bathroom and every amenity you could need (fridge, safe, hairdryer etc) as well as cookies and popcorn to fill a gap. Hog Hollow is well placed for lots of the activities nearby during the day - Plettenberg Bay, Robberg, MonkeyLand, Birds of Eden etc - and the evenings are a lovely opportunity to share stories with the other guests. Starting with drinks and canapés at the Boma, we found ourselves chatting to the other guests about what they had been doing on their trip so far. We opted for communal dining and were so glad we did as we met lots of lovely people and gained more ideas for our travels. The food was delicious and good value. The included breakfast was a beautifully displayed buffet plus hot options and gave us plenty of variety. After breakfast we chose our three-course dinner options for the evening, initially from two or three options but towards the end of our stay the menu became more extensive. Everything we ate was delicious and we loved the petite fours too and we sat and chatted for a while after we had finished eating. The service in the restaurant was exceptional. Lovely, friendly staff who remembered exactly what we liked and kept our glasses full! I’d recommend eating in for a lovely relaxing experience. Leave a little room for the goodnight chocolate on your pillow and leave enough time to read the African bedtime story. Although Hog Hollow is a beautiful lodge in a stunning location, it’s the staff that make it outstanding. Everyone was friendly, super helpful and looked after us incredibly well. We would love to return one day!
Nice lodging outside of Plettenberg Bay
Our family of 4 had 2 bungalows here for 2 nights. Each was spacious with a sitting area, comfortable US king bed, and large bathroom. The decor was slightly rustic, with a working wood fireplace. Lots of space for luggage, and a nice view of the forest on the private patio. There is a wooden walkway to each bungalow from the main lodge. At night, it’s dimly lit and a bit spooky if you’re worried about monkeys or other creatures, but we felt completely safe here. Breakfast on the patio was nice. Blankets and fire pits were a nice touch as we were here in SA’s winter. Dinner was great the one night we ate here. They brought a full dinner to the kids in the bungalow as they were sick of eating out. Overall service was excellent. Hot water bottles in beds at night was a nice touch. Location is good, only a 5 min drive from Monkeyland, the elephant sanctuary and Birds of Eden. They also offer a shuttle from the hotel if you prefer. My only complaint is that there’s no option for 4 guests in one bungalow so our family had to separate each night.
What a beautiful place, we had such a wonderful stay. When we arrived we were a little worried as it was only adults and we had two boisterous boys but we were put at ease straight away, they also upgraded us to the villa as it was empty. WOW what a place, a self catering villa straight out of a magazine. So many little touches, the play room, hot water bottles in our beds of an evening and the view was amazing. What really makes Hogs Hollow so exceptional are the staff... so welcoming, genuinely friendly and kind. The general manager Carmen was amazing helping us with directions and recommendations so helpful. We ate at the Table in Plettenberg, really relaxed kid friendly and the food was delicious. We also ate at Enricos relaxed great food and staff. We are already dreaming of a visit back to the SA and hogs hollow as so much still to see. Thank you Hogs Hollow you made us feel so spoilt!
