Great staff and fantastic views
We managed to complete our stay just before close down due to the virus lockdown. Lovely staff, good spacious rooms with stunning views and regular monkey visits. As others have mentioned the food is OK but nothing special and on one evening I had a very disappointing steak. Improving the food would really step this up to excellent. A local vineyard has an excellent restaurant which is well worth a visit for lunch. We also very much enjoyed the local wildlife reserves( elephants, monkey and the incredible bird sanctuary)All within a very short drive.
This was very different - location, rooms etc. Our room was a separate lodge with views over the forests, and monkeys visiting every time we sat out to see if we would give them food - which we didn't of course. It was well fitted out - once we worked out how to turn the lights on and off. The staff were very friendly and helpful. At dinner there was a choice of having your own table or sitting on a communal one. Having experienced communal dining before we opted for our own table but those on it seemed to be having a lovey time. The food was OK - nothing to rave about but the setting was great. We stayed a few days allowing us to see the area - and I recommend the boat trip on the river which can be booked at reception.
A beautiful place to stay
Just loved this place. It's set in the hills outside Plettenberg, and it is so peaceful. There is a lovely area to sit, have a glass of wine and discuss your day and experiences with the other guests, whilst looking out over the hills. The food is excellent, and you have a choice of eating either on your own table or with others (we chose the latter and met some lovely people that way). Our room had a downstairs and an upsatirs, both with balconies, and was very clean. The staff are very friendly. Would definitely stay there again.
We had a four night stay at Hog hollow in March and all I can say is that it was amazing. Having our own little room/lodge in the grounds ensured privacy and peace which was just perfect, our balcony was huge looking out over the canopy of the forest and the view from the bath was equally fabulous and we had all home comforts in the room. We especially loved dining at the big communal table each evening and meeting different people of all nationalities, we had great fun and super food. All the staff were kind, friendly and helpful and we were so close to may interesting things to do and we even went on a wine tour.
When travelling up the Garden Route we spent a single night here to break the journey. As a hotel it’s “ok” - Room and dinner restaurant mediocre, but the staff are fabulous! Some of the best we have met. Location and views great too, and a very good breakfast.
