Once in a lifetime experience.
This was an amazing stay and probably the best part of our recent honeymoon. The safari drives were unbelievable and we seen so many different animals - it really was amazing. The hotel staff and safari tour guides were also excellent, very friendly and informative. The food in the property was also amazing.
A wonderful African experience
The whole experience exceeded our expectation with a very friendly staff and and great tour guide. We saw the big five because of the competence of our guide. The food was acceptable rather than gourmet.
Room with a view
We were greeted by Almarie and Tim on arrival and shown to our lodge. It was beautifully set overlooking the plains and had its own veranda. We had six game drives and saw the most amazing animals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner and all drinks included. The food was fresh and well cooked. All in all a great experience. Brad was our guide and he was fantastic
I really don't know how to write this review as I know I just won't do the lodge any justice. And I don't want to say too much so you can be surprised by all the litle touches this lodge has to offer. Driving up to the lodge from the motorway we were greeted with wildlife such as warthogs. The excitement was like nothing I'd experienced before. When we pulled in at the lodge we were greeted by the Lodge Manager who made us feel like part of the family right from the start. He checked us in and showed us around. He asked us what drinks we'd like in the fridge and arranged for them to be filled up. A lovely touch was the Amakhala drinks bottles on our bed which we could bring home with us. Conservation and sustainability is a huge thing for South Africa so this touch was extra special. A typical day starts off with a wake up call around 5am for our 5.30 am safarI. When we got back we were treated to a delicious breakfast and then we had free time. We wrere treated to a delicious lunch at 2pm daily and then at 4pm we were treated to our afternoon safari. During the freetime I used to lounge by the pool reading or sit on my little balcony looking out at the savannah hoping to spot an animal or two. There's no need to bring dressy clothes for dinner as everyone just wears what they wore on their evening safari. I'd advise packing warm layers as it can be cold searching for animals. Make sure to pack a hat, glasses and suncream too. One of the highlights for me (besides the actual safari) was drinking hot chocolate by the camp fire before dinner. A huge shout out to our guide Lenny who I think has to be the best guide in Amakhal - he is the real king of the jungle! We saw four of the big 5 and loads of other animals too. We went to South Africa especially for safari and thought it would be a once in a lifetime experience but we now know that it's not true because we just have to go back!
Woodbury Safari Lodge
Wonderful 2 night stay at Woodbury Lodge. Brad was an excellent host finding and showing us all the animals and plants on the game drives. Lovely location and staff very friendly and couldn't do enough for you
