I cannot recommend this lodge highly enough! Fantastic accommodation, service and food. Amazing game drives with a sundowner bar service or morning coffee stop. We saw 4 of the big 5, leopard was being elusive! But the most wonderful part of our 2 night stay was when the elephants visited the lodges watering hole and wandered up through the lodge just past our balcony. The most incredible experience to be so close to these stunning animals. If you are considering a stay here you won't be disappointed.
Unforgettable experience 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Wow! What an amazing experience we had at Bukela. Everything from the staff, game drives, accommodation, food and just general atmosphere and decor was nothing short of amazing. The staff cannot do enough for you. From check in to check out was faultless. I have never known a more hard-working staff team - they literally do not stop. They’re all very welcoming, always ready to greet you with a smile. We stayed in the safari tent, which was beautifully furnished. The bed was firm but comfortable, there was a log fire in the seating area of the room, mini bar/fridge, coffee/tea making facilities, a safe, air con/heater, a freestanding bath in front of a window with a beautiful view, an indoor/outdoor shower and a few lovely finishing touches like dressing gowns, slippers and heated blankets on the bed. It was winter when we visited so the room was cold!! However, the heater was brilliant - after only being on for a few minutes the room had heated up straight away. The wind was very strong whilst we were there, so of a night the wind would blow the material of the tent which was quite loud, but staying in the tented accommodation is much more fitting to the whole safari experience so we embraced it! I would recommend staying in the tented rooms and wouldn’t hesitate to stay in one again if (hopefully when) we return. The highlight of our room was the view. We had the perfect view of the watering hole where about 16 elephants came to visit for a drink twice during our stay. (This was a truly unforgettable experience which will never be topped.) We were also visited by one elephant on a separate day, antelope, warthogs and monkeys too. Rooms 9, 10 and 11 have the best views - they’re right in front of the watering hole. We stayed in room 11 and I would say this is the best of the three rooms, for views and experiences - it’s the last room (on the end) which means that you’re right next to the bushes/wild where the animals walk up and down the hills, so not only did we get to see the animals in front of our room at the watering hole, but they often walked past the side of our room too! The game drives were unbelievable. We had two game drives a day - one at 7am and one at 3pm. Both drives were 3 hours long. They provide waterproof, fleece-lined ponchos which were very much appreciated for the wet and windy drives! There was always a member of staff waiting with a hot drink for when we arrived back. What a lovely touch. Note: double check with your driver what time your drives are at. The welcome sheet in our room said 3:30pm but it was supposed to be 3pm so when we arrived, they had just left and had to come back to pick us up! Our driver was Edi (Edison). WOW! He is an absolute star and he made our stay. He is very professional with a great sense of humour, extremely knowledgable and will do everything he can to find you all of the animals. We were very fortunate with our sightings - we saw everything but the cheetah. We even managed to see the male lion up-close as he walked out of a bush, stopped to look at us and then walked right in front of our jeep! You can tell Edi loves his job and we felt so lucky that we had someone as amazing as him. The food and drinks were great. The food portions were on the small side, however the quality was amazing - very tasty and always beautifully presented. It was the same menus for each day so could get quite repetitive but this wasn’t a problem for us. We genuinely had the best time here and we didn’t want to leave. If we could have cancelled the next part of our trip in Mauritius and stayed at Bukela, we would have without a doubt. Thank you Bukela for the most amazing experience!
Trip of a Lifetime
We had the most amazing time In Amakhala Bukela. We stayed in a Luxury Safari Tent and it was fabulous. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Michael is a gent. The food is delicious and you certainly won’t go hungry. Our ranger Sim deserves a special mention, he made our safari experience so memorable. Thanks to him we got to see so much.Up close with elephants, buffalo, cheetahs, rhinos, hippos, giraffes, the lionesses and many more. The highlight for us on our final game drive was getting to see the lion! A magical moment. He also makes a pretty good hot chocolate! We can’t speak highly enough about our time in Amakhala, memories to last a lifetime.
Outstanding venue, staff and experience
Fabulous location, knowledgeable staff and fantastic experience. From the amazing twice daily game drives, the outstanding food and drinks on offer and the 5* accommodation, we couldn't have wished or chosen a better experience. The staff were attentive, professional and friendly throughout our stay.
We had an incredible game drive with our ranger Wonga, who didnt hold back in finding the lioness pair for us, and we have been on a few, this was one of the best!! Our room was warm and cosy on a very chilly evening and the view spectacular. We would like to have had a warm bath or shower, and easier access to two pin plugs, but otherwise a well appointed tent, we loved it. The food was great, and we enjoyed each meal. Thank you for a really lovely stay we hope to be back again soon.
