What a wonderful setting. Cheryl and co were excellent - catering to all whims - and serving up fantastic hospitality with food, wine, atmosphere accomodation and all you can wish for. Highly recommended!
Three Tree Hill was one of the best places we've stayed in South Africa. We were booked in for 4 nights and ended up staying an extra night because we were having such a lovely time. This place has it all: unique historical interest (in the shadow of Spion Kop, of Anglo-Boer War notoriety - the "Kop" that the Liverpool stand is named for - definitely worth booking yourself on the guided tour); wildlife (some Kudus from the neighbouring game farm strolled past our cabin one morning); excellent hikes; and a range of other activities. The view from our private deck was breathtaking (I recommend you ask for cabin 6, best view in the place!) The accommodation itself is stunning, attention to detail immaculate and full of character. We spent two cold, rainy days in the cozy library (well stocked with valuable Africana and above a well-stocked wine cellar) next to the fire. We felt so at home, that we had a nap on the couch in the main lodge area one night! The food was a highlight. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients presented in a "home style" that would make you believe you were visiting your Ouma on the family farm. The fresh, creamy milk with breakfast was my favourite. And mielie pap! The staff were exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. One day we came back from a hike to find our lunch (one of the best meals we've ever had by the way) had been set up at a special table on the deck, we felt like royalty. Cheryl and Simon are the perfect hosts and it's clear that all the staff are happy, respected and feel a part of the family. Can't recommend this place enough, especially if you're interested in South African history, wildlife, good cuisine, good wine, or natural beauty. Book now and go as soon as you can!
Historical accommodation in all its glory
Three tree hill Lodge is a beautiful lodge tucked away near Spioenkop Dam, with a feeling of relaxation, gorgeous views, and well worth historical tours of the surrounding battlefields. We really enjoyed our stay and would have loved it to be longer. The service is excellent and everybody feels like a family, including all the animals. We highly recommend Three Tree Hill Lodge
We absolutely LOVED it!
We LOVED everything about our stay at Three Tree Hills! We used it as a base from which to explore the Drakensberg and hike the stunning Tugela Gorge. We stayed in the spectacular Burchells cottage, with beautiful views on spionkop reserve, we were lucky to watch rhino grazing from our verandah. There is such special care and love shown throughout this lodge, and a very special warm feeling from the people here. We especially related to the care shown to the enviroment. Thank you Cheryl, Simon and everyone that works there, it was such a priveledge to visit
An African delight
What a treat to be in an establishment where it is clearly apparent that attention to detail, care for their guests, staff and environment are of paramount importance. This is also the first lodge we have been to where the room with disabled access can accommodate our family and not only 2 guests. The quiet, calm beauty you will find here is like no other. You will leave your heart here and have to return to visit it :)
