Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa
We stayed a night at Twelve Apostles for our honeymoon and it was excellent. In retrospect, we wish we had booked another night or two. We had ~7 days in the Cape Town area before going on Safari. We were able to squeeze a lot of our itinerary into the remaining 6 days in the Cape Town area so we ended up using our day at Twelve Apostles as a day to unwind and relax. We booked a spa here, Outdoor Bliss, which was a beautiful setting. Afterwards we were able to remain at Twelve Apostles - having lunch on the property at Cafe Grill, drinks at the Leopard Bar (incredible ocean / coast views), and then a dinner in the Azure Restaurant. The hotel is very well situated with amazing coastal views and views of the Twelve Apostles mountain range so didn't feel like we were missing out (we're not the type of people who would typically spend a whole day at the hotel on vacation instead of exploring the city and surrounding area). The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We'd definitely return to this place and would recommend it to anyone visiting Cape Town.
Great Service, some areas for improvement
We booked a mountain facing room over a weekend to celebrate our Anniversary. We had a wonderful stay, the location of this hotel is amazing, with fabulous views of the ocean and mountains in the back. Service of the staff was always on point, with the team taking time to acknowledge our anniversary and congratulate us. They always checking how our stay was, and how our day was, what our plans were and if they could assist. A standout is the option for oysters for breakfast, delicious and a unique option i have not encountered at other hotels. The complimentary lunch that came part of the special we booked was also delicious and exceeded expectations. There were issues with our room, and the hotel handled this in exemplary fashion, team came out to resolve this issues and quickly ascertained if it will be an easy fix or not. Given not an easy fix, we were upgraded to a larger room. No fuss, no need to ask etc. Some areas for improvement: This hotel gets busy and while not their fault, it seems like most things need to be booked well in advance e.g. a seat at the leopard bar or to use the spas pools. Need to get to breakfast early to get a table in Azure. Its takes away some spontaneity to the experience. To use the spa pool we booked on a Friday and the earliest we could get was Sunday morning. Age is showing on this property and while it is stunning and well taken care of, things like the aircons and some light fittings (not just in the rooms) are all showing their age and look out of place. Original room looked very old and in need of a makeover. Cupboards in the spa look a bit worn. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, with great staff and in a stunning location. I would recommend it.
No effort made for our engagement
I have been a Cape Town resident for over 10 years and was a frequent visitor of the Leopard Lounge and Azure restaurant. I had always looked forward to one day staying at the hotel. After relocating to Johannesburg, my wonderful partner went through every effort to create a memorable engagement. He arranged flights and booked a room at the 12 Apostles with the romantic turndown package, pre-booked and paid for a dinner at Azure and asked the hotel about engagement locations. To make the night even more memorable, he arranged for our close friends to join for sundowners before dinner at the Leopard Lounge. Our experience with the 12 Apostles Hotel and staff was disappointing and disenchanting. 1. On arrival, the table reserved at Leopard Lounge balcony was occupied. We were eventually relocated to Azure balcony and later moved inside the lounge. 2. The dinner booked and pre-paid at the Azure restaurant at 7:30pm was confirmed by my partner in person with the restaurant maître d’ at around 6:30pm. She was told that we were having drinks with friends upstairs. At 7:40 my partner personally went down to the restaurant to indicate that we were running a bit late and would take the table shortly however was informed that the restaurant was now closed. I would expect a 5-star establishment who are expecting an engagement to notify their guests sitting upstairs that they are closing. 3. We were informed that the Café took orders 24 hours a day. We moved to the Café around 8pm where we were informed that we were not allowed to sit there as they were closing (even though there were people sitting and enjoying their meals) – and had to take our preferred meal off the room service menu in our room. 4. On arrival, the room was considerably cold so we tried to turn on the heater. Many top establishments would usually have rooms pre-set to a comfortable temperature in Winter. The aircon had been placed on a timer so we requested assistance from reception. The first lady who tried to assist us turned the aircon on cold and was unable to change the setting so left us in a colder room. We called reception again to assist, the second person was also unable to change the setting so called maintenance staff. Two men arrived to try change the setting. At this point our dinner from the café arrived (lukewarm) which we ate in a cold room with two strangers present trying to fix the aircon. After twenty minutes the maintenance staff recommended that we change rooms. 5. The food was mediocre and below expectations. When I asked the waitron for parmesan for the pasta and chutney / sambals for the curry she laughed as if I was joking and didn’t return. No effort was made to make this a romantic dinner for us. This was not the evening that we had in mind. In short, no staff tried to assist in making this a special occasion and generally there was not a high level of attention paid from booking and discussing special occasions with the concierge, to checking in at the front detailing that the evening was a surprise, to the restaurant maître d, through to the café meal arrangement. We were informed by the Management the next day that there would be a full investigation as they took guest feedback seriously. Three weeks later with no feedback, the Guest Experience Manager requested a Trip Advisor review. I am very disappointed by the experience and the lack of effort made to make this a memorable day or to communicate with us post the stay. We did get engaged the next day – at a different location.
I had the most beautiful Birthday weekend at your hotel. We received a very warm welcome as we entered. Gillian checked us in very quickly and roomed us. She was very kind and friendly. Angus ensured that both my Birthday dinner and breakfast ran smoothly. Pamela was excellent at my dinner. Tanya at the spa is a phenomenal host and Bea is an excellent therapist. The service in general was truly five star!!!!!! Each staff member went out of their way to provide superior service. I am proud of your staff for being ambassadors of service for this city!!! Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.
Amazing stay thanks to Juan and Angus
We’ve just spent 2 amazing nights at the 12A. Kudos to Juan and Angus who went out of their way to accommodate us. Their service was phenomenal and they are such as asset to the hotel. Amber and Theo were amazing too. The spa is such a treat and the rooms are to die for. The views are out of this world. Food was exceptional and high tea is a must do. The gin tasting experience was exceptional.
