A note to the GM
I have updated my review as I left the previous with high emotions and frustration during the ongoing Covid-19 crisis: I felt let down by One & Only in the way they simply cancelled my booking without any correspondence or warning (which IS possible via the Hotels.com App as demonstrated by other Hotels and One and Only themselves when they emailed prior to my stay). I also remain frustrated by One & Only's interpretation of the Covid-19 mandate which nearly left myself, wife and one year old son homeless on the streets of Cape Town for one night. Sorry but I really think One & Only should and could have done more to help reaccommodate their guests instead of just cancelling and leaving them high and dry (I am sure you care about the safety of your guests too)? NONETHELESS, my previous review was unfair and personal, in a time that I am sure was also stressful for the GM and his colleagues. Whilst I think the situation could have been handled much better, this was an unprecedented challenge with very little warning or clarity. The One and Only's GM responded to my complaint calmly, professionally and with dignity, and thus promoting a more fair yet brief summary on the hotel as follows: One and Only Cape Town is one of the best hotels we have stayed at, with clean and comfortable rooms, incredibly friendly staff and one of the most impressive breakfast menus (and quality) you can find. Sorry RL.
My family and I visited after Covid-19 struck. Its hard to write a fair review in these circumstances because we didn't get the full benefit of the happy buzz that the hotel and area is so well known for. What I can say is that even in these very trying times, the staff were great and did their best to keep out spirits up. Well done to them for that! My son had his 6th birthday, and they spoiled him. The hotel was very quiet, and they upgraded our room. Very warm, friendly and professional. The only reason for this review, which would apply in both coronavirus season or not, is my disappointment over the restaurants. There are two in-house: the one - Ochre - only had one vegetarian option which is, quite frankly, almost incomprehensible in this day and age. The other - Nobu - is Japanese and whilst the service was top class, the food was bland and pretty uninspiring although very pricey. I am not sure why Reubens is no longer at the One&Only, but the hotel is definitely missing a top quality international restaurant. That being said, the location is literally with 100 meters of top quality establishments at the Waterfront. So a quiet stroll solves that problem. We'll definitely be back after Covid-19.
The One&Only resort hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, is luxury and service at its finest. The location is convenient to the waterfront, easily walkable, but not in a congested area. The staff are the most welcoming and serving as my wife and I have experienced anywhere. They even have a unique and heartfelt greeting at every passing opportunity. The hand crossed over on the heart is a sign to all of their desire to serve and make everyone feel welcome. The hotel is stunning and perfect place to visit from through all of Cape Town.
One and only stay
All the staff at breakfast and Ashley from the pool areas was lovely. Amazing customer service. The room was spotless and the view was amazing. The best breakfast buffet i have ever seen at a hotel. The Hospitality in the pool areas was very good also.
Definitely the One&Only resort in Cape Town
The price is not ideal, but hey it’s One&Only, not Hilton, you don’t get this level of service at Hilton hotels. Very friendly and professional staff there. Great location was great, as you all know South Africa has safety especially Cape Town, but we felt very safe staying there. Apart from One&Only Cape Town, I’ve also stayed at One&Only Wolgan Valley, where next?
