Old World Charm with Modern Amenities!
This is a beautiful place to stay when visiting Cape Town, South Africa. It has retained its history and old world charm while updating with more modern amenities. Rooms are a nice size. They are clean and well maintained. It is in a good location so you can easily walk to shopping and restaurants. Grounds are beautifully maintained and the included breakfast offers a nice variety.
Terrible Rundown Hotel Rooms
We arrived today to this beautiful hotel, staying for 4 nights - to get the biggest shock our our lives when we checked into our room. the following is what we encountered; 1. The corners of the walls were battered from luggage and ageing 2. Cracks on the wall near room door 3. Door knob to the bathroom door falling off, and doesn't even close at all [The sent a nice handyman, who offered to remove the door and get it fixed tomorrow, and place it back after tomorrow - how convenient] 4. Broken room window, can only tilt it up, not open it sideways, as it literally falls off 5. Bathtub delayered, and coating coming off 6. A clogged bathroom sink 7. A nice round hole in the middle of the headboard of the bed. It is shocking that those are standards of 5 star hotels nowadays.. Yet alone, a Belmond hotel. Utterly shameful!
Greates Tea Time ever!
The Belmont Mount Nelson Hotel is a must when you are travelling to Capetown! The staff was so friendly and made it happen on the very same day that we got a table for the famous afternoon tea time. The old hotel has an amazing atmosphere, it was a true pleasure to be there - the sandwiches, cakes and sweets stuffs were just amazing and super yummy;-) Everything fresh prepared! Important advise: Don't eat lunch before, the food is soo much and you have to try everything - it's so much better than in London or anywhere else in the world I can think of! You will love it!
Go play with Barkie!
If you’re staying at the Mount Nelson, be sure to book a tennis lesson with Barkie McKrea, guaranteed to have the best time and you will hit it better than Federer in no time! The ATP Grandmaster of the Western Cape.
An amazing experience.
There is something magical about this hotel . We have stayed at the Belmond Reid in Madeira and thought that could not be bettered but both hotels are exceptional in every way. The staff are so helpful especially Crystal on the front desk. Well done Belmond we will be back.
