Just south of Yosemite National Park is Mammoth Mountain, which enjoys one of the most consistent snowfalls of any North American resort – an average of 33 feet!
At over 11,000 feet, Mammoth hogs the snow and doesn’t give it up. Over 3,500 acres of awesome ski terrain surrounded by a landscape of staggering beauty, Mammoth sits in a corner of California that we highly recommend.
The ridge that fans out from Panorama Lookout at the summit sparkles with double diamonds, couloirs, and chutes which open out into vast bowls, steeps and deeps. But if the trail map seems devoid of learner terrain, don’t be deceived - Mammoth is one of North America’s top first-timer destinations. Both the resort base and the town of Mammoth Lakes host a great variety of bars and restaurants.
The truly amazing thing about this area is the geology; Mammoth Mountain is surprisingly a volcano and by virtue of this is surrounded by Hot Springs that one can hop into after a hard day on the mountain.
