Basking in glorious sunshine with almost all south-facing slopes, the popular resort of Alpe D’Huez is known as the ‘Island in the sun’.
This high altitude, purpose-built resort offers conveniently located accommodation near the slopes and a lively après-ski scene. Alpe d’Huez is a large all-round ski resort, perfect for groups of mixed abilities looking for high altitude skiing. It is part of the Grand Domaine ski area with 250km of pistes, forming an enormous winter playground.
Intermediates in particular are spoilt for choice with a huge selection of long cruising reds and blues. The Dome des Rousses is a great challenge for confident skiers with ‘The Wall’ providing a testing section. Experts can enjoy the mogul fields and steep descents, including the Tunnel run and the 16km Sarenne piste - Europe’s longest black run.
With over 50 restaurants to choose from, numerous bars with live music, cafés and night clubs, there are après opportunities in Alpe d’Huez to suit everyone’s tastes.
