Constance is really a grand property in every sense. It is a lush tropic with beautiful private beach on one end and a deeper public beach on the other. All restaurants are overlooking the beach. We got a lovely room on the quiet side with a spacious terrace. The properly is beautiful with 6 pools, magnificent natural timber architecture and almost no crowding given the spacious nature of the property. The property speaks for itself, so I want to focus this review on the staff and how lovely and caring they are. Our flights were cancelled, our trip extended and all I have to say is Vijay, Nicolas and Jonathan (all managers at the hotel) were nothing but kind and accommodating to all of our needs (and we had quite a few - wanted a chess or some sort of board game to keep us amused as pools, spa and gym were shut down). We were also given complimentary laundry service for extending our stay. We were taken care of in many ways including a very reasonable rate for the extension. Now, a few words on Jahir Hussein and Shiv (Adam and Eve chef and Sommelier). What an amazing team. Jahir made us such healthy and delicious dishes that suited my vegetarian diet and beautiful fish dishes for pescatarian partner. His fusion of international food cuisine was a testament to his world class innovation and effort put into each dish. We would love for him to publish a book or have his own tele show! I can’t say enough as to how the service here is above expectation. A small example from this morning, Nicolas, part of the restaurant team at Corossol offered to cut us some cinnamon sticks from the trees outside and deliver to our room as he noticed that we love cinnamon water! We would love to return.
You can find way better for the price
If it’s your first time to a tropical island then this resort with its five beaches, palm trees, turquoise waters and jungle hikes is probably really lovely but if you’re looking for five star luxury this isn’t it. Firstly, if you call the resort in advance or use the online concierge to ask for anything you never hear back. I called twice and was told someone would call back (they didn’t) and used online concierge for a restaurant booking - it didn’t exist when we arrived. At check-in you make two card payments, one for sundries and one for your room which is odd and cumbersome - most places I go it’s one block on your card and then pay at check-out. It feels like an up front lack of trust, considering they have your card details from the deposit if you did decide to run away (lol!) and then there’s chaos as they’re checking in everyone from the Dubai and UK flights and no rooms are ready and all they keep repeating is “2pm, 2pm” Guest relations is really poor. We didn’t like our Senior suite on the north beach as the locals party in the car park about 20m away with loud music so we asked to move to a Junior suite on the south beach and the first thing they said was “you won’t be able to get a refund” we weren’t doing it for a refund we wanted the more peaceful location. So they said we couldn’t see a room then but come back the next morning. I went back at 11am - no-one knew we had asked to see a Junior suite and move and they said they couldn’t show us one until 2pm and finally at 2.15 we saw one and decided to move. They did give us an upgrade to full board (from half board) for our last five days but the damage of the lack of communication and customer service mindset was done. We then asked for help to book our helicopter transfer to Constance Lemuria and they said they would do it the next morning. By 2pm I went to check and no-one at guest relations knew about it and nothing had been done. We booked it ourselves. Other more generic issues - seselwa and corossol don’t have very good food. The buggies around north and south are non-existent so you walk a lot or pay 200rps a day for a bike. If you ever call guest relations you wait with it ringing for 2 mins and if your lucky reception will answer and say they will call back (but that’s annoying as normally you want to be out of your villa on the beach not waiting for GR) But in general when you stay away from asking anything of the staff and focus on the pools and beaches it’s a nice sunny haven. However, my 100% recommendation is to save your pennies and go to Constance Halaveli in the Maldives for almost the same price you can get an over water villa with private pool and all inclusive, great customer service and the most amazing snorkelling from the steps of your room - the best holiday we have ever had and we’re so sad this Constance was such a let down by comparison.
In all aspects disappointing
The hotel is obviously already a bit older, still it would be possible to make this look nicer and give guests a better feeling than this is currently done. Most annoying things are: 1. Bad Service in most of the restaurants, tables are not cleaned independent if someone has already left the table or not, leading to the fact that birds are coming to the table and eating the leftovers. If you do not ask to remove the glasses and bottles from the appetitive they will stay until desert even if they are empty. 2. Hospitality is not really given, in most of the restaurants people are rather unfriendly and customer orientated. 3. None of the restaurants has got a proper fridge to chill the wine bottles leading to the fact that all wines served are by far too warm, even if you take a bottle for US$100. Comment from the waiter is that he is sorry but there is in none of the restaurants a proper fridge. 4. Damaged sunbeds with broken wheels and fabrics, (layers are not even removed when there is heavy rain and are awfully wet afterwards of course), followed by signs where letters are missing completed by broken umbrellas. 5. WIFI, the hotel is still operating Apple TV from the first edition, resulting in enormous noise. On top of that the WIFI connection is so bad that if two people are in one room using Facebook at the same time it is not working any more. 6. After five days the bedlinen was not even changed ones. On top of this, the ventilation in the room is broken as well. So overall if you want to spend some nice days at the Seychelles rather spend a little bit more and move anywhere else but not into Constance Ephelia. PS: I do only add one picture because the WIFi connection takes ages to upload.
Great hotel in all respects. Wonderful food and service. Junior suites not huge but absolutely adequate. Spread out nature of the resort with multiple pools gives it a smaller feel. Very nice to have both North and South beach areas. Could perhaps benefit from a few more bicycles for hire.
