Rudest Welcome in Rwanda
This is a no star review. I was on a work trip with friends. We were staying nearby and looking for a nice place for food and drink. We found this on the map and decided to check it out. Turns out you have to book from Kigali, you can't just go there. Which is fine, if that's how they want to do things. But what was absolutely unacceptable was the extreme unpleasantness we received from the guard at the gate. We stopped the car and it was all he could do to walk over to us. The first word out of his mouth was simply, 'No.' No what, we wondered. He walked to the passenger side where our Rwandan colleague was sitting and began with 'Umva' ('listen up'). He was extremely rude towards us and we were glad to drive away. Perhaps they should take their 1.5 million francs per night and invest it in some manners.
Exceptional Service, Food & Attention to detail
Our Stay: Dec 14-16th. There are tones of activities that one can do at the property. We were exhausted from our previous hikes and this place was the best way to wind down and bid our farewell to Rwanda. The rooms are comfy with great facilities. The pool is equally relaxing with one-of-a-kind forest views. Judith is a great manager with an exceptional eye to customer service. She is attentive and a good listener. Throughout our stay she periodically kept checking in with us. Ask her about her fav moments of Nairobi. ;) Grace & Sam are expert guides. Ask about the flora with Grace or find out more about the research she is conducting on chimps and their interaction with surrounding populations. Sam is into birds and passionate about conservation in Rwanda. Go on a night hike with him. If you are lucky like us, you will see jackals around the swamp. A mountain bike ride in the morning in the best way to start the day. Justin was the su-chef who was making exceptional dishes round the clock. He catered to our dietary needs and made the stay enjoyable and wholesome. Ask him about his pride--the vegetable garden and how he mixes local ingredients to create outstanding dishes. Michael is the F&B manager and he was ensuring that our dining service was at a high bar. Ask him to surprise you with some cocktails with South-African gins. Noella is bubbly and sweet and will ensure that you are treated with care and that all your needs are taken care of. Ask her about how she likes to spend the day during her days off. ;) All in all, the employees are very happy and it shows with the extreme care & meticulous attention to detail they extend to the guests. It's a reflection of how well the management is running this place as well as taking care of their employees. Well worth the price & a must visit if you are in Rwanda.
A place to be
The walk on the canopy bridge is breath taking. It give a great view of the forest with sound of birds chirping, rivers flowing and monkeys jumping across trees. Cool air which is fresh. Gushing soft winds from all the sides. A breath taking experience.
Over the top...
Just close your eyes and image a beautiful, modern, yet classic wooden house (resort) situated on top of a large tea plantation bordering with the Nuyngwe National Rainforest. It is not easy to get there, but once you are there, you are in paradise. The rest of our time staying there will go down in history of our travels. Our every need was catered with great care and hospitality. We brought our toddler with us and the staff genuinely loved interacting with her, in fact my daughter knew the name of all the staff. My husband had to be on a no salt diet and all of his meals were made just for him. The view of the rainforest from the resort is just breathtaking especially after the rain. It is a place to relax and get away from the city. Highly recommend! Big thank you to Bonita who introduced this resort to us.
stunning hotel, sub-standard food
real luxury hotel, beautifully designed, so gorgeous you don't want to leave, staff incredibly nice, activities on site...but food really sub-optimal given the price paid...infinity pool facing the forest is one of a kind, absolutely spectacular
