We stayed at this lodge for our gorilla and golden monkey treks. The lodge is rustic as you would expect for this remote location. Guests stay in cottages on the property that are spacious and clean. There was a turndown service each night with a hot water bottle snuggled in your bed to warm in as well as a fireplace. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Generous mostly buffet-style meal choices. We were able to rent shin guards for the treks at the lodge for a nominal fee (well worth it!). There’s not a lot to do do most people gather around the large indoor fireplaces and get to know each other. They do have tribal dancing at 5 each night for about an hour. I really enjoyed the stay and would definitely go back again.
Great stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful! The hotel is quite basic but you don’t really need more and the location is fantastic - close to park headquarters. Room was very spacious albeit a bit cold during my stay (late February) but they come around and make fires in the rooms which does the trick. Bed super comfy! The food was good and they also did a fantastic job cleaning boots after the trek which was essentially as mine were covered in mud! The traditional dancing in the evening was nice to watch and support the local community. I only had one problem when I arrived which was no loo paper / water in my room and it took a while to get sorted but other than that no complaints. There isn’t much to do at the lodge when you aren’t trekking so I suggest bringing a book to enjoy the quiet!
Supper Eco Resort
We have stayed in this hotel few times and from our second visit we were overwhelmed that all staff remembered us and you can feel their true expression of welcoming you, this made us feel applauded. Staff are very helpful will go extra mile to make your stay memorable. The ambiance all around this Eco lodge is spectacular, the private cottages with nice view of Virunga mountains, everything here is natural. As regular visitor to Rwanda we can’t afford without spending time at this place, we are not fancy of mountain tracking, we come here for relaxing and indeed spending a day in this resort you fee fully relinquish. The everyday 5 o’clock local dance is extravaganza, food is very nice and can be made special to your individual desire. Looking forward to our next visit.
The location of the lodge is great, the views are spectacular. The staff were absolutely delightful, very kind and helpful. Huge, spacious cabins.....lovely and quiet. Exactly what you want when staying somewhere so special. A wonderful service was the complimentary washing of trekking boots and gaiters ( definitely required ! ) following the guaranteed very muddy gorilla hike. Boots and gaiters whisked away as soon as you return to the lodge and actually mine were returned to me cleaner than they’ve ever been! I had a brilliant stay.....thank you to all the wonderful staff! Annette.
Comfortable base, great staff
While this lodge is a bit tired it was perfect for our needs and it was the staff that made our stay so enjoyable. The rooms do not have heating or cooling but the staff will light a fire in your room every night and place a hot water bottle in your bed. There is no wi-fi in the rooms themselves but it is available in the central areas. Half the fun was gathering around the central fire in the lounge areas of an evening and chatting to other people about the experiences of the day while checking your email. We were very impressed with the service provided to clean your shoes and clothes after a day's trekking and have them returned by the same evening. I also appreciated the attention of the chef in catering for my gluten-free needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
