Everything a Palace Should Be
What a treat to stay at this property! The check-in staff were super helpful, and our junior suite couldn't have been more perfect: gorgeous bathroom, comfortable bed, big closets, and lots of light (with great curtains to block the light in the morning!). Breakfast was a fabulous buffet, and the two dinners we had were very good: the Wine Cellar and the main ballroom (which looks like it's out of a movie). They definitely have the best bar menu we saw in our 18 days in Iberia, and the bar/lounge is so comfortably elegant you won't want to leave. Incredible scenery nearby for biking and presumably hiking. We only stayed two nights, but depending on your plans, 3 would be ideal.
We stayed at Vidago Palace for 2 nights and we had such an amazing experience! Our room was amazing, very spacious and beautifully decorated . The hotel surroundings are just perfect for a walk with beautiful flowers and trees everywhere. I really enjoyed the lake area, very peaceful and calm. The swimming pool area was great, very spacious and clean. We got a massage at the spa and we loved it. Staff was professional and kind. We had all of our meals at the hotel, and we got in love with the decoration of Salão Nobre. Food was delicious, very well prepared and presented for every single dish. We got the change to try the thermal water with some amazing properties. Our stay here was just perfect and I highly recommend this hotel for relaxing holiday.
A luxury and relaxing getaway in Northern Portugal
We had a truly amazing and relaxing stay at Vidago Palace. The property features a beautiful palace of luxury within spectacular scenic and historical scenery. The interior of the hotel is elegant and classically authentic; high ornate ceilings, varnished wood panels and flooring, a sweeping double sided staircase and some of the most beautiful wallpapers you will ever see in an Hotel. With such a legacy of wellness and that supply of precious iron rich mineral water still bubbling up from the spring, the spa is obviously one of the highlights of this 5 star hotel and the perfect getaway for those seeking a peaceful and relaxed experience in the Portuguese countryside. The Vidago Palace Hotel is an unforgetable destination for anyone keen to find a five star luxury retreat away from the usual tourist hubs of Portugal.
Vidago Palace, no longer a five star hotel, but a five penny hotel…
Stayed at this hotel a few years ago and the service was fantastic, stayed now and things have gone down specially in the small details which makes or breaks good 5 star hotels. A few examples: Went down for breakfast, which is included in the room and asked for a porridge and was told I would have to pay extra because it was not on the buffet. Asked for an omelette, but was also said would have to pay extra because only scrambled eggs were included in the buffet. I have never seen this in a 5 star hotel… Rooms are already in need of maintenance as we could smell the unpleasant odour of the water pipes in the room. Last but not the least, having booked the room for 3 nights just one day before the first night, I then asked to reduce to two nights, but was told that was not possible because I had already committed to 3 nights so would have to pay 100% cancellation fee. They didn’t even care to ask what was the reason I needed to cancel the third night, but just cared to charge me in full. This has to do with management style and short term view. The hotel gained a few more euros on me, but lost a client.
We chose Vidago as the first stay on our first trip abroad since 2019. We could not really fault this hotel and spa, or the staff. The tasting menu in the ballroom was impressive, as were the breakfasts. There is a pizzeria in walking distance which also impressed us.
