Beautiful Riverfront Hotel with Great Service
My family of 8 were guests in 4 rooms at the beautiful hotel. Some highlights: 1. Spectacular riverfront location with superbly landscaped grounds 2. Well appointed rooms with terraces and great views 3. Excellent location with easy access to Sacred Valley sites 4. Resident alpacas that all of us (especially the grandchildren) enjoyed 5. Excellent food and bar 6. Superb service throughout From our perspective, there were no negatives
Great hotel, great location, poor transportation services
We stayed for five nights in the villa. It overlooked the water and had a gorgeous mountain and distant valley view--the views and the river sounds were WOW factor. The staff are generally kind and helpful. The villa was spacious, well appointed (except there are no tubs in the entire villa). Con #1: the hotel offers transportation service and it's great if you're departing the hotel, but the pick up service is not 5 stars. We were stranded twice and had to make our way back to the hotel. The hotel transportation service is also terribly expensive (5 to 15 soles via local taxi one way vs. 40 USD to the downtown area). If they offer to have their taxi wait for you, let them as they make no assurance that your pick up will be on time (read 45 minutes late) or that they will be there at all (read could not reach the hotel via phone when we called to arrange pick up). The last effort to use their taxi service to the airport in cusco, the told the driver to take us to the belmond in cusco. The driver was able to correct this after we went to the wrong drop up, but if we had not allowed time to get to the airport, we could have missed our flight. Con #2: skip the spa services...the pedicture services do not provide foot tubs only wet towels to soak your feet. The staff also talk to eachother during massages, detracting from the overall relaxing experience. They did offer a discount for the massages, without asking, but please keep the chatter to a minimum when given massages. It really spoils an otherwise relaxing time. Despite the transportation issues and chatty slightly inept massage/spa experience, the hotel is beautiful and in a very relaxing setting. The hotel restaurant food is also very good.
Serenity before Machu Picchu Madness
We chose to stay outside of Cusco before heading to Machu Picchu. We spent two peaceful days acclimating to the altitude. It is a beautiful resort with very attentive service. We loved our stay in Urubamaba and highly recommend the Belmont!
Beautiful, serene retreat
Amazingly relaxing property, perfectly set to access Sacred Valley sites (including on-property train station for the journey to Machu Picchu!). Delicious food, spacious and comfortable rooms with top notch service you expect from Belmond.
One of the absolute best experiences - ever!
My boyfriend and I travel almost all the time for work; but when we want to get away, we are always looking for extraordinary experiences - The Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado exceeded all of our expectations and this doesn't happen to us often! We cannot thank the amazing staff enough for making our 4 - night stay here so relaxing and unique! Words alone cannot express the dedication and obvious warmth we felt from all of the friendly, helpful, knowledgable staff. This is truly a beautiful gem of a property in one of the most relaxing settings in the world! I have been to hundreds of resorts in nearly as many countries; and I can only say, most of them could learn a few things from this wonderful staff!
