Is it safe to travel to Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum?

What is life like in the Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum?

There’s no lockdown in resorts at present and you are free to move around. However, social distancing must be followed and wearing a face mask in enclosed spaces is mandatory. You may find that some shops may restrict capacity and therefore they may be a wait to enter.

How should I keep safe in Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum?

You should follow local regulations and continue to practice good levels of hygiene as advised by the NHS while you are on holiday. You can refer to the government website for detailed information but there are a few basic principles to follow: avoiding being face-to-face with people, keep your hands and face as clean as possible, keep indoor places well ventilated, avoid crowded spaces, use face coverings and wash your clothes regularly. 

What was the COVID-19 pandemic response? 

In general, Turkey handled the pandemic well and that measures are still in place to continue to minimise the spread of COVID-19. To support this, the FCDO advise that it is mandatory to wear face masks in public places such as shops, supermarkets and also on all public transport such as buses, taxis and ferries. There are areas of Turkey that have made wearing a face mask mandatory when outside, regardless of activity. 

Are there any pre-departure requirements in regards to visas and passports?

British citizens are able to travel to Turkey for up to 90 days without a visa. Your passport must have at least six months validity from the date that you enter Turkey and a full blank page for the entry and exit stamps. The FCDO advises that you will need to complete a passenger locator form prior to your arrival into Turkey. You will also be asked to provide your accommodation address where you will stay and your contact details. 

What are the quarantine guidelines in Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum?

You do not need to quarantine on arrival into Turkey, as long as you do not need test positive for COVID-19.  I you do test positive, or if you develop symptoms and/or are diagnosed while on holiday, you will be required to self-isolate for 14 days.

If I test positive for COVID-19 in Antalya, Dalaman or Bodrum what will happen?

You may not be allowed to enter Turkey if you display signs of COVID-19 on arrival. You will be transferred to the nearest local pandemic hospital should you display signs and the hospital will follow the pandemic process which may include quarantine for 14 days. If you develop symptoms on holiday, you must inform your local representative, the hotel or the UK duty office immediately. If you need to transfer to hospital you will be taken, otherwise you’ll need to remain in quarantine for 14 days at the hotel you are staying in. Local numbers will be provided to you on your arrival in the resort.

What is the airport experience like?

All airports in Turkey have a mandatory social distancing policy and all passengers will have a thermal temperature screening as they arrive into the terminal. Face masks must be worn throughout the airport buildings.

What are the transfers like?

Face masks must be worn by all people including the driver in the vehicle and social distancing should be maintained where possible (for example, the seat next to the drive will remain empty) and hand sanitizer may be available to use. After each transfer, the seats, all interior surfaces and luggage areas are disinfected and this will be recorded.

What should I expect at the hotel?

Hotels must gain a COVID-19 certification and their processes are then inspected each month. These processes include social distancing in hotel restaurant and bars. If the hotel has a buffet restaurant, food will be served to your table rather than being self-served by the guest. Social distancing may also be in place on beaches and around swimming pools. Face masks and mandatory for staff in hotels and restaurants.

Do I need to quarantine in the UK on my return from Antalya, Dalaman or Bodrum?

The FCDO advises that UK nationals returning from Antalya, Dalaman or Bodrum need to quarantine for 14 days on their return to the UK.

Forms required for travel to and from Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum

You will need to complete a Turkey passenger locator form prior to your arrival in Turkey. You’ll also be asked to provide your accommodation address where you will stay and your contact details. A UK arrival form must be completed  48 hours before your return home.
