All sightseeing is a suggestion only and is not included unless specified. This is an unescorted, independent journey and no Kuoni representative will be available. Transfers are not included so upon arrival at each destination you will be required to make your own way to your hotel and you will also be required to independently reconfirm any arrangements locally.

Personalised Canada driving road book
This self-drive package includes a personalised Canada driving road book which consists of: A city overview and sightseeing information, discount vouchers for attractions (where applicable), provincial road maps, maps of airport and city centres with hotel locations indicated, access to a toll-free customer service line.  You’ll receive on arrival in your first hotel. If you choose a tailor-made itinerary, the pack can be included at a small additional charge.

Recommended highlights

ANCHORAGE On arrival in Anchorage make your own way to your hotel for two nights. Enjoy the remainder of today and the following day exploring Alaska’s largest city.

TOK We recommend departing early from Anchorage for your journey eastwards to Tok. En route perhaps stop at Matanuska Glacier State Recreation Area and follow the easy walking trail which follows the the glacier and the Matanuska River. If you don’t fancy walking there is a pavilion where you can enjoy views of the river, glacier and surrounding mountain peaks. Continue east to Tok where you will spend one night.

WHITEHORSE Cross over the border into Canada and head south east to the frontier city of Whitehorse, which is the federal territory of Yukon’s capital. During your time here you can shop for native arts and crafts, soak in the Takhini Hot Springs and step on board the SS Klondike.

DAWSON CITY
Travel via the Klondike Highway into central Yukon. Catch glimpses of the mighty Yukon River as you enter the traditional hunting grounds of the Kaska Indians, where bears, wolves, lynx and moose roam. Dawson City is located in a sheltered valley and was one of North America’s liveliest towns in 1899. Perhaps tour the historic landmarks or even pan for gold.

FAIRBANKS Travel along the ruggedly scenic Top-of-the-World Highway, crossing back into Alaska at Little Gold Camp (border crossing open May-Sep). Pass through an amazing landscape of magnificent alpine vistas, following the Tanana River to Fairbanks for two nights. Admire the picturesque scenery – at times illuminated by the unique spectacle of the Northern Lights – and perhaps cruise the Chena and Tanana rivers by authentic sternwheeler.

DENALI NATIONAL PARK Make your way to Denali National Park for two nights. The towering mountains, wide valleys and roaring rivers of Alaska’s interior offer excellent opportunities for outdoor activities. See Mount McKinley, North America’s tallest peak, and enjoy a full-day wildlife watching tour of the national park. Weather permitting, you will have an opportunity to see moose, caribou and grizzly bears from the comfort of a specially modified tour bus.

Tailor your tour

Don’t forget that you can tailor make your own self-drive around Canada, choosing your number of nights, where you stay, and even adding excursions. Or combine your self-drive with a stay at any of our city, beach or resort hotels in USA or Canada.
