Vancouver Island is a wildlife lover’s dream with whales and bears drawn to the region’s food-rich waters. This is a two-part experience from Tofino which consists of a whale-watching cruise on a 12-passenger Zodiac in the open waters of the Pacific, during which you may spot gray or humpback whales, seals and sea otters. During the second part of the tour you’ll cruise along the coast of the Clayoquot Sound during low tide to see the island’s resident black bears.

Head out of the city, crossing the Lions Gate Bridge on your way to the North Shore. Visit the Capilano Fish Hatchery before continuing on to the foot of Grouse Mountain. The tour’s highlight is the visit to the Capilano Suspension Bridge which spans the beautiful Capilano Canyon and River. You can also step out on to the cantilevered Cliffwalk which extends out over the canyon.

Explore the oceanside town of Horseshoe Bay which marks the sea end of the Sea to Sky Highway which seemingly clings to the edge of the mountainside. You'll then follow the eastern edge of the beautiful Howe Sound as you travel towards the province's 3rd highest waterfall, Shannon Falls. Continue to the Sea to Sky Gondola and ascend 840 metres up to a viewing platform and a 50-metre suspension bridge. On your way back to the city, stop at the Britannia Mine Museum for a train ride through a historic mine.
For a supplement you can head out for a boat trip (on a 9m rigid inflatable Zodiac) on the beautiful Howe Sound, North America's southern-most fjord. During your time on the water you may see harbour seals and various bird species at the Christie Islet Bird Sanctuary. You'll then step back on dry land at Britannia Beach join the rest of the group and continue on to the falls, the gondola and the mine museum.

Head out in search of orcas, minke and gray whales and a whole host of other marine wildlife on this three hour cruise from Victoria. Choose from either a 45 foot ocean cruiser or a more exhilarating ride on a Zodiac RIB, both of which are fitted with a hydrophone to listen for the whales, and will have a naturalist or biologist on board.

Travel between downtown Vancouver and Downtown Victoria on the comfortable V2V ferry. BC Ferries operate car ferry routes along British Columbia's Pacific Coast. They also connect the Vancouver area with a couple of destinations on Vancouver Island. The most popular route is between Tsawwassen (approximately 30 minutes south of Vancouver airport) and Swartz Bay which sits at the tip of the Saanich Peninsula and is about half an hour from central Victoria. If you wish to tavel further up the Vancouver Island coast, cutting the driving time to the likes of Campbell River and the west coast towns of Tofino and Ucluelet, you can take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver to Duke Point in Nanaimo.

Depart from Banff and travel northwards along the scenic Icefields Parkway.
