The Alps in NZ are the place for now
We travelled here Jan 2021 after some years of saving to travel to the Swiss or French Alps. Who knew such gorgeousness existed here! May sound ignorant but it's true. We were so delighted with out stay here. We were in the Wakefield Wing in a superior room and had stunning beautiful views of Mt Cook from our room. I think anywhere on that wing would be the same. WE loved the entire hotel. Vast, beautiful views from the restaurants. Great Service. What a great way to celebrate the gorgeousness of NZ in a Covid world. ( or otherwise !!!). We ate the buffet dinner both nights and the breakfast and they were outstanding. Delicious and fresh. n.b having read a previous review.. there are no shops in this area.. if you want anything not from a restaurant buy it way before you turn off the main road to MT cook . PErsonally I am all for supporting this hotel in the current climate but .. just saying.
Magical place to stay
We stayed for 3 nights to celebrate a special birthday. It was a beautiful location with a view of Mt Cook from many large windows around the hotel. The service was world class without being intrusive. Had a resort type feel with staff ensuring you were being looked after. Standard of our room was excellent - we chose a premium queen room with views of Mt Cook. The meals were delicious as from a top restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Excellent value for money.
Exceeded expectations - the other half’s perspective
As was highlighted by my other half (earlier review-eugenius101) this is an exceptional hotel, exceeding all expectations! We also want to make a special shout-out to the front desk/receptionist staff -Kyona and Oni! From checkin to checkout they were outstanding and we were most appreciative of their assistance in securing a future reservation reflecting how much we enjoyed our stay. Well done to management for the high standard of staff employed across the board!
Stunning Alpine Vistas
This part of alpine New Zealand is astonishingly beautiful. The incredible forces of nature are visible everywhere you look. We stayed at the Hermitage hotel which has the most amazing view of our highest peak. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed and the restaurant menu and service is first class. There is plenty to do there with helicopter and glacier flights, moraine lake cruises, guided walks and trekking for those with high energy and adventure levels.
Wonderful hospitality from utterly professional staff .
We stayed for four nights at the hermitage. It takes some effort to exclude the brilliant surroundings of our glorious national park and the many great activities provided , but here I’ll only concentrate on the hotel itself . Quite frankly I don’t think I ever experienced such a good crew . From check in to dining , from bus drivers to the shop . This is a happy bunch , and that takes some doing from management and individual application. Certainly the ingredients have combined to work here . I noticed how those in higher positions treated their staff well and completely without clumsy rank , mutual respect even and good humour . I’m loath to single out an individual but Perfect who does the dinner service is everything you would want as an employer. Man does that guy give 110% or what , even if he is up against some serious competition. The food was good , well cooked and on occasion adventurous, with good local produce included . Decent wines . Breakfast was a standard buffet with nothing disappointing about it , get it included in the rate . Our room was special because of its view and the balcony included . However like I said it’s the people that make this place work . Bravo !
