Met Our Needs
This was a fairly basic, but perfectly adequate hotel in a rural area of the South Island. It was very quiet, but within easy walking distance of a few shops, restaurants and bars. There was an elevator to our second-floor room which was quite small, but had a balcony and views of the surrounding mountains. There was no air-conditioning, because, apparently, it is rarely needed at this height and latitude. The bathroom was very nice and had a walk-in shower. There was no bar as such, but we enjoyed drinks in the lounge, served by the hotel’s friendly and attentive staff.
Very good hotel
We stayed as part of a tour. The hotel is very comfortable with all amenities. The room was spacious with a good view from a small balcony. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Hotel is located close to the main street which is not very extensive. The service was excellent and the dinner and breakfast were quite delicious. A great hotel to stay at.
Lovely Hotel - Great service
We arrived here very late at night and were touched to receive a welcoming note with instructions as to where to pick up our key and how to find our room. We were surprised at the spacious room with balcony and made use of the guest laundry - a welcome discovery the following morning. Complimentary breakfast was absolutley lovely and the staff friendly and helpful. We hadn't expected such a nice hotel in this small town - I definitely recommend.
Best hotel in a small town.
This is a small town and I would say this is the nicest hotel available. They have a washer and dryer so a load would be $6 completed. Free washing powder which is great. Easy walk to the handful of eateries. 4 minutes. My booking agent booked us in and booked a flight at Franz Joseph which was ridiculous - Christian noted this and sorted it out by calling and changing it for me when I checked in- Amazing service. The 20-25 minutes of winding road back to there would not have been fun. Fix is the smaller less busy and quieter of the two two towns. Breakfast is a buffet of 3 cereals some fruit, coffee, tea, and cooked eggs your way. Very hospitable service. Wifi is free. Amenities are good and include a toothbrush. My only additional feed back is to put 3 towels in a room- you can ask but I couldn’t be bothered really. With long hair I always get frustrated when it’s old school 2 towels. Thanks for a great stay.
Not what it used to be
Was excited to revisit this boutique hotel, where we stayed 13 years ago. However, the rooms were a little tired, and the wine reception no longer included a light snack and was limited to one glass of wine. This seemed a little cheap for the price of the room. Freddie, our host, was very personable and helpful.
