We stayed here for two days of our honeymoon while we were travelling down the west coast. Staff were amazing, super friendly and helpful. Shout out to Martian and the front desk who made us feel so welcome. The rooms were cute, clean and cosy and the complimentary breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended!!
A dump - stay elsewhere
I unfortunately stayed at the Distinction Fox Glacier Hotel on the evening of May 18. When we arrived, the person behind the reception desk continued to have a telephone conversation and at one stage turned around so his back was to me. When he finally decided to finish his private conversation, he turned to me and complained we were late (we arrived @ 7.30pm) This is in spite of the fact called that morning to let the "Hotel" know of our arrival time. He then informed us that breakfast was served between 8 > 9 am, when I indicated we wanted an early start – he reluctantly said he would ring the person that did breakfast and try for 7.30am He then gave me the key to our room, which was locate do the 2nd floor, we went to the lift and found the lift doors of the lift wouldn’t close – the receptionist answer to this was to kick the doors of the lift (Hardly inspiring confidence), which didn’t fix the lift. So we dragged our bags up 2 flights of stairs – a customer focused person would have offered us another room on a lower floor – not him ! We walked into our room and I used the toilet – which wouldn’t flush, so it was back down 2 flights of stairs to your less than friendly receptionist how gave us a key to another room – unbelievably still on the 2nd floor. Now I am hear to tell you that the condition of this room was nothing short of disgusting. There was mold growing on the grout in the shower – everywhere it was absolutely gross • The bathroom looked like it had been repainted by a blind person as you could see every brush mark. The water out of the taps was brown – about the colour of sewerage, but nothing a $200 filter wouldn’t fix – if anyone cared • Rather than fresh milk, there was UHT milk in the fridge – really ? The bed was so old and soft I woke up in the morning almost touching my toes…. The carpet had several large prominent stains, as did the bed cover. The 2 sofa chairs arms were so threadbare someone had made some seriously tacky covers for them In all my years travel, both domestically & internationally (including 3rd world countries) I have never been so disgusted We left early in the morning so didn’t get to sample their breakfast. I emailed the “manager” of this motel and asked for the contact details of the owner – so I could tell them what was happening to their motel – he flat out refused to [provide this information. So I contacted their head office (twice) and one week later have still not received a response This is no “Hotel”; it’s a rundown, badly maintained, poorly cleaned motel – my advice is to avoid at all costs
Confortable and Pleasant Stay
The hotel Manager Chris was very helpful and informative. Great breakfast and confortable room. Not really a “boutique hotel” but surely the best in town. It good be good if they could expand on places to eat as they are very limited. The second night of our stay it was stormy, it rained buckets and there was a total power blackout in town. Luckily we managed to get dinner late at “ Cooks Saddle “ great little gem but that was the only choice we had. Thanks Chris.
One night only
Top small hotel. Friendly and very helpful staff. Had the best meal at their restaurant for this trip. The salmon was excellent would come back again just to have that again.Small town with the hotel situated to enjoy the cool mountains and views.
Great hotel with the little extras that make the difference
Stayed at this hotel for only one night and wished it could have been more. Lovely airy rooms with great bathroom with a good choice of lotions etc. Coffee including cafeteria in the room. Very comfortable bed nice dressing gowns and fluffy towels. Breakfast was fabulous great selection of fresh fruit cereals and cooked all served by friendly staff. Great information regarding the best viewing areas for the glacier and sunset .
