Central location, spacious rooms, great service!
This hotel certainly exceeded expectations both times that we stayed there. It is centrally located and within walking distance to the Octagon, eateries and tourist attractions such as the Toitu Museum, Chinese Garden and the Railway Station. The rooms are spacious with modern furnishing and really comfortable beds. Great little extras such as soft and comfortable bedroom slippers, and a great range of toiletries including dental kits. Harney & Sons teas with little cookies and chocolates are a nice touch. The overhead shower and shower head can both function at the same time (as opposed to most other places where only one can operate at any one time), and they have the most amazing shower pressure! We stayed in the 2-bedroom suite the first time and the 4-bedroom suite during our second visit and both were just amazing. Each room within the suite has a tv, on top of the living room tv. Fantastic service provided by hotel staff - a special shout out to Mitchell for providing great service to us (from our reservation process right through our stay). We were impressed with the honesty of housekeeping staff in finding a small jewellery charm (which we didn’t even notice was missing) after we’d checked out and handed it in to front desk staff who checked our contact details and got in touch with us offering to courier it to us. Absolutely a gem of a hotel in Dunedin and couldn’t recommend it highly enough!
When you walk into reception you are greet with clean tidy reception. The receptionist are well dressed and very welcoming. The room clean big and very comfortable. Big bed own shower. The restaurant down stair Parcels, the have the most tasty meals wel presented. The restaurant manager Sharon from Canada( appointed her Temporary New Zealanders while we were there,) Pete our waiter he was very attentive. The food was spectacular . Plenty of and so tasty. Recommend this.
At last a decent hotel
The Booking.com price was way lower than the hotel was offering. Excellent parking even if you get wet walking across to the hotel. The room was hard to fault. Warm and comfortable with a kitchenette bench fridge and tea and toast making facilities. Excellent bed and able to get a decent sleep. The breakfast was good but the atmosphere in the café could be a lot better. Its too sterile. The staff were OK and the food was good value for money. Quite a few scruffy guests but I guess that is the what you can expect on the weekend. Over all a decent hotel and an asset to the city
Delightful Distinction in Dunedin
Traveled to Dunedin for both business and pleasure and found this great hotel. Excellent location away from more touristy areas but easy walking to the Octagon where there are many fun restaurants. One oddity is that the hotel name is tough to spot, as its a big letter 'D' very subtly applied to the building and a bit of driveway signage. Its in a renovated post office which makes it very unique. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and includes a kitchen and a huge bathroom with a wonderful shower! Food was typical big hotel style so its pretty good but the waitstaff was outstanding. They got to know us after the first day and really looked after us and several people we were meeting with. Front desk staff was the same, very personal and well informed. A real gem in a beautiful part of this beautiful country.
Incompetent staff and average food but good otherwise
Great hotel and comfortable beds. However I tried to order a swordfish salad and lamb shoulder as room service for dinner. Peter answered the phone and it was very difficult to explain to him what I wanted even though they were just a couple of standard items listed on the menu. It almost took 5 minutes to order a lamb shoulder, swordfish salad and a side of mash potato. Peter just didn't get it and I had to repeat my order at least three times. His phone etiquette also needs improvement to work in a hotel like this. The salad was okay but the $34 lamb tasted like it was cooked a very long time ago, as if carved off a roast from the day before. The mash potato were smothered in molten butter or oil. This is such a beautiful and comfortable hotel however it's just such a shame that things so simple are letting it down
