QT Wellington

4.5

This quirky design-led hotel has sophisticated dining, chic bars and an excellent waterfront location.

QT Wellington is in a great waterfront spot opposite the Sunday market and national Te Papa Museum, and is an ideal base for exploring Wellington. The super-stylish hotel is a former art museum and its phrase is “Art, design, curiosities and a dash of the absurd” – the lobby has dark leather sofas, eye-catching artwork and even a motorcycle on display. Unwind at the spa and lap pool after a day of exploring, and you’ll have access to a beautiful bed, well-equipped kitchen and generous living space in your own studio or apartment – upgrade for views over the harbour.

Tuck into French-inspired cuisine at Hippopotamus, the hotel’s award-winning restaurant which serves a great mix of fine dining and comfort food dishes, with menus including Vegan & Vegetarian and High Tea. Head to the adjoining Cocktail Bar and watch as mixologists prepare your drinks – it’s the perfect spot for a pre- or post-dinner tipple. Make your way to the new Asian restaurant, Hot Sauce where there’s chill-out music and flavours including Thai, Korean, Japanese and Singaporean. On Friday nights, enjoy live music at the Lobby Lounge, a great spot to kick back and relax with a tea or coffee and cake.
