This must be the best restaurant in Rotorua by far
We live locally and have tried all the main restaurants in town, but this has become by far our favourite, now we have had dinner here. We decided on it because of some lovely lunches we has previously had here. Four of us ate here last night and had the most wonderful meal, prompting this review. Comments at the table from our guests like "it has to be the best restaurant we have ever eaten at" Yes, at the top end of restaurant pricing in town, at around $20 an entrée and $39 mains, but unlike many similarly priced meals not far away the value for money was exceptional. We ate scallops salmon and mushrooms for a starter, and mains of filet, chicken and pork belly. The service, presentation and food quality was exceptional, and no one had room for desert! The presentation was so good that it moved me to photograph our plates for the first time ever!. No one minds paying top prices for a top quality experience like this!
Stylish black & white themed hotel in good location
Charming & stylish boutique hotel in a location handy for restaurants & bars and within walking distance of the picturesque Govt Bldgs, Rotorua Museum and the park with its Maori statues & sculptures. The lake front also close by but very disappointingly fenced off (not the fault of the hotel). Breakfast ok but a little lacking in choice. Staff friendly & helpful.
My husband and I stayed one night in the July school holidays. The welcome was warm and the room superb. I loved that there was a power point for my hairdryer in the bathroom so that I could use the mirror. Super comfy bed and spectacular decor. We even had a soak in the hotels indoor hot pool, very relaxing. One downside - breakfast. The buffet was very poor. Limited choice, dried up looking fruit - not worth the nearly $30 we paid. Would definitely stay again, but would also definitely go out for breakfast.
Still our favourite place to stay in Rotorua
Due to COVID 19 Lockdown prices we paid about $100 less then normal which was a bonus but to be honest would have probably paid full price. Regent is a step above most places we have stayed at in New Zealand as far as rooms and service go. No different this time, arrived around midday noting check in is normally 2pm no problems 20 minutes later after talking to house keeping our room was ready. The location is just great literally meters away from "Eat Street" and the middle of town for some great eating and drinking options. Look forward to our next visit.
Excellent degustation meal
We didn't stay but chanced upon this place for an evening meal that would surpass the fare at nearby Eat Streat restaurants, which are fine, but not a silver service experience. We were not disappointed, lovely food carefully prepared and presented, along with attentive service and mellow jazz piano music at a level that didn't intrude on conversatjon. The decor is modern black and white with elements of bling which made us think cocktail party, or wedding reception. There were Maori influences in the food, e.g. kawa kawa smoke and horopito fronds (think of tender asparagus but prettier on the plate) The mushroom dish with different treatments was divine, but so was the expertly cooked venison and beef fillet. I would highly recommend you treating yourself to this meal, with the wine match, to get the best experience.
