A memorable experience
From the moment we arrived until we left we could not fault anything - welcome/accommodation/food/wine/activities all 5 star. We were a group of friends celebrating a special birthday Cape Kidnappers made this a very special celebration.
We had a great time. The service was outstanding, genuine and welcoming. The tasting menu's at dinner were some of the best we have experienced. Assistance by the very knowledgeable sommelier much appreciated. It's a part of New Zealand that we had not been to before (Cape Kidnappers) and it is very beautiful. Birdlife was a treat and although we did not see a Kiwi we heard it at night. A very relaxing experience. Top marks to all the team at Cape Kidnappers for our great experience.
Had a great time here. Fantastic food, very knowledgeable sommelier with great recommendations. Fantastic team, really down to earth kiwi feel to the people which is how it should be for international visitors. Ganet colony and birds a real feature 4 Kaka right outside our room. Missed seeing kiwi but other guests did, have to visit again to see them. Nice to have lots of walks on site. Thanks for great memories
Unfortunately just average
Having stayed at the sister Kauri Cliffs as well as several other luxury lodges in NZ I’m disappointed that this doesn’t quite reach the standard of the others. The grounds are huge and the views lovely, we enjoyed using the electric cycles (it’s very hilly) but be aware there are only 5 so it’s first come first served, they really should have more. The rooms are very spacious but the decor, while attempting to be somewhat rustic, comes across more as basic and cheap. The bed is huge and the linen and pillows luxurious but internet speed was iffy from the room, at times barely working, not acceptable in this day and age. The food in our “all inclusive package” was unfortunately just average, the main courses at dinner were good, just not exceptional, and at this level they should be exceptional, however the included wines were all of a very good standard. The breakfasts were regrettably disappointing, to be frank the standard of a 4 star hotel, uninspiring to say the least. We enjoyed the spa treatments but more effort should be made to create a more luxurious and inviting ambience at the spa, it’s just as basic as you can get. We didn’t play golf but I would expect the course to be in immaculate condition but very challenging. The pro shop is very well equipped and prices reasonable. The staff were all well trained, friendly and provided excellent service.
Could be better
Came for a weekend away. The gentleman managers were outstanding-could not be more helpful. The rooms lovely. Bed very comfortable. Then it goes downhill. Food average-fresh fruit had obviously been pre-cut and had been waiting and dried out . The severs rolled their eyes when we wanted an xtra cup of coffee. Arrived at the spa for a two hour treatment and they were running 30 mins behind. ‘Too busy today’ was the comment. The young girl at front desk was rude, unhelpful and not at all friendly when we checked out. The location is beautiful. The grounds immaculate. The sound of kiwis -awesome. Cycling -great.
