Break After Locdown
Upon arrival to Sofitel RYAN looked after us very smartly and quickly . When we went to check in he saw to it that we had minimum wait and got our keys for our room . My wife and I were very impressed with his professional and quick attention in looking after us , thank you Ryan . I would like management to share this review with him and give him special commendation. Also commendation to the ladies that cleaned our room while we were in it , they too were very efficient and professional and quick , thank you ladies
Clearly things were a little rusty. There was an open, half full bottle of sparking wine in the fridge; a light was out in the bathroom; there was no hot water initially. The hospitality was also running on Covid restriction basis (no bar, restaurant running on room service menu only) On top of that, for the first time since i became Accor gold (and now diamond), no "welcome gift" in the room & one free drink despite us being a couple. (2 is the norm for me as an individual...)
Upon check-in we were told that some facilities were not available. We were still charged full price for our stay. We would have booked somewhere else if we had of known this as similar hotels close by were offering full facilities for a similar price.
I was in Auckland on Business, visit family and travelling Solo. Hotel very quiet because of Lockdown. Pretty sure I was upgraded to a marina view as I requested an internal view. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Biggest disappointment was that what was advertised on their website in the restaurant wasn't available. When I found out there wasn't Oysters available I ordered a burger. I requested at the very least Med.Rare and was told they could possibly do it. It arrived Well Done on Brioche bread (neither of which I don't like) - brioche wasn't advertised. I was told the next day by the same waiter that because it's mince it has to be well done...I cook burgers occasionally by myself at home and they are never Well Done - I've never been ill by my own cooking. I said "If I got ill I wouldn't be blaming you". I advised my daughter the following day not to order the burger, but she went for it anyway - she has been brought up on Blue cooked Steak. Overall it was a pleasant experience but the restaurant was a let down.
This was a last minute booking for my husband and I to escape and to relax for the night. We booked on the app - it did not say that the spa, restaurant and bar were ALL closed due to low occupancy. I understand this is a unique situation with COVID but we should have been made aware when booking. I asked about an upgrade, they said it wasn’t available - yet we’d been emailed offering a paid upgrade. I pay for the privilege of being an Accor Plus Member. I expect more. I explained this in detail when checking in but she wasn’t having it. I even suggested we cancel and go home but that wasn’t possible either apparently. The room was expensive, yet the curtains let light in, there were dreadful noises from the aircon. No complementary drinking water?!. The Nespresso machine was great but no milk for it. All they could offer was a room service menu. At breakfast there was no sauce, no jam we had to ask for water. This was the most expensive yet most disappointing Sofitel I’ve stayed at and I’ve stayed at many. There is much better in the City on offer for much less. Really frustrated and disappointed.
