Loved Our Trip
We came to this resort based off recommendation from a travel agent. Would stay here again. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. Food was decent. The access to the beach was important to us, the walk there was short and the beaches were gorgeous.
Make sure to visit the Seaside Grill for dinner.
The Seaside Grill, near the pool, is excellent. It’s great for lunch, and really excellent for dinner. There are a ton of options for steaks, sides and sauces. The appetizers were great too. Try the octopus! Our server, Erick Gonzalez, went above and beyond to make our night special. When the restaurant ran out of a certain desert we wanted, he went to another restaurant across the resort to get it for us, without even asking. He really made it feel like a fine dining experience. Thank you Erick and the whole staff at the Seaside Grill!
WOW The Best
Let me start by saying this was our 23rd visit to this area and first time to this Secrets. My wife and I were there for our 35th anniversary and all the staff were truly amazing. We opted for the preferred and we highly recommend this package. Check in at the preferred lounge went very well with Ximena and I do agree with other reviewers that the preferred lounge at Dreams is nicer. We were given an ocean view 4th floor room and it was spectacular. The room was beautiful and very well decorated. Every morning I went to the beautiful beach and met with Roger or Nadia to get a Bali bed. The two of them took care of us every day like we were royalty. They were both very professional and the beach servers Marcella and Katia were so friendly and helpful. We ate at all the restaurants except the Japanese and the food was over the top. We never had a bad meal. The main pool manager Gustavo always greeted us each day and he was always wanting to help us in anyway. Our best meal was at The French, Bordeaux restaurant and we went there twice. Each time we were greeted by the manager Hayden and he was so friendly and very professional. One night he found out it was our anniversary and he gave us a special table with Louis and the dinner was magical. Get the filet because it was like we were at a steak house in the US the way it was cooked to perfection. The beach is huge and gorgeous with minor sea grass that is taken care of everyday not like the major problems in the Riviera Maya area. We swam in the ocean every day and in the late afternoon went into the huge pool and met some great people. From the employees to the grounds this resort is a 5 Star and we highly recommend it for all ages. We will definitely be coming back again and agin in the future and while there we even joined the Vacation Club so now we can go to all of the AM Resorts.
My wife and I recently stayed at Secrets Playa Mujeres for 4 nights. Overall, we had a great time. The beach, pool, guest room, and most of the staff were all fantastic. Some other positives: (1) I went golfing with some of the "fun money" we had to spend. The course was well kept, and probably would have been enjoyable for most skill levels. There were 5 levels of tee boxes at every hole, so the total length of the course could vary between 5195 and 7218 yards. Mostly flat, wide fairways and large, rolling greens. Beautiful scenery. "Free" greens fees, but $100 for a cart and $60 for clubs (very nice Taylormade M4 set). $40 for my wife to ride along. Be sure to bring a glove ($25) and balls ($3 each minimum). (2) Spa experience was nice. Again, we used "fun money" that was given to us. We both enjoyed full-body massages, sauna, steam room, private pool, facial (wife) and fish foot therapy (me). (3) Wide selection of restaurants to choose from (French, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Brazilian...) with what seemed to me as "authentic" cuisine (I'm not a world traveler, though). Men are required to wear long pants/jeans and a shirt with a collar (button up or polo) to be seated inside the "formal" restaurants (listed above). You could eat on the patio outside each restaurant if your clothes weren't appropriate (which we did every night anyway because the weather was fantastic!). There were also many "casual" dining options. (4) The vast majority of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. There are always some employees... anywhere you go... who either hate their jobs or just aren't "people friendly". Secrets is no exception. But you shouldn't let the few deprive you of this great vacation getaway. Some negatives: (1) Very long, tedious check-in procedure, as we were given several "upgrade" options to consider. We went around the resort and looked at two options, plus our original room, and decided to stick with the original. The whole process took about an hour. Ugh. (2) The pillows in our guest room (not a "preferred guest" room), were ridiculous... about an inch and a half of flat foam. We suffered through the first night before calling the front desk and asking for "real" pillows. The staff were quick to provide the same pillows their "preferred" guests get without asking. (3) The entertainment was not great.
This was a fun trip and the staff was beyond wonderful. I rated average because of the food and the resort is in need of a "refresh" compared to other properties. If good was an option I would have chosen that rating.
