Veranda Paul et Virginie Hotel & Spa

Boutique bliss for couples

Adults-only hotel with charming thatched buildings, unique experiences and romantic dining.

It’s perhaps no surprise that at a hotel named after one of the most famous couples in French literature romance is the main focus. A stay here will be filled with plenty of ‘us moments’, whether you’re relaxing on the small cove-style beach, sitting down to a romantic dinner or retreating to the much-loved Seven Colours spa for a treatment that’s been tailored for couples. At the heart of the hotel, there’s a delightful freeform pool, but the spot with the real wow factor is the infinity pool which has fantastic views towards the northern islets. There’s little to stop you from spending most of your time in the pool or soaking up the sun beside it, although it would be a shame to miss out on the uniquely Mauritian experiences provided by the hotel. These include catamaran cruises around the islets (shared with guests – including children – from sister hotels), an exploration of nearby villages, and fishing from a traditional boat, known as a pirogue.

Why we love Veranda Paul et Virginie Hotel & Spa

  • The hotel describes itself as a ‘timeless Eden’ and – with its tranquil setting and serene atmosphere – we’d have to agree

  • There are just 81 rooms scattered around the grounds, and every one of them overlooks the Indian Ocean

  • You could spend the whole day in and around the stunning infinity pool gazing out over the water to the Northern Isles

  • Mauritian culture is woven through the hotel’s experiences, which include seeing artisans at work and learning a traditional musical instrument

  • Good to Know

With two al fresco restaurants, an equally breezy bar with a food menu during the day, and a street-food kiosk where you can learn about the local food culture in the most delicious way, there’s enough variety to keep guests happy.

Isle de France
The main restaurant, open for breakfast and dinner, overlooks the pool and small bay. Both Mauritian and international dishes are available at the buffet.

Le Saint Géran
This specialist restaurant is located at the end of the jetty, surrounded by water. Under its thatched roof you can lunch or dine on local catch-of-the-day seafood and a selection of vegetarian dishes.

Poudre d’Or
The inviting little bar is just steps from the beach, so you can linger over cocktails or after-dinner drinks, a lunchtime sandwich, or maybe coffee and cake, and views of the Grand Gaube lagoon.

There’s an extra charge if you want to have dinner at Le Saint Géran, but we think it’s worth it for the magical atmosphere as darkness falls.

What's included

All Inclusive • Breakfast and dinner at Ile de France • Lunch at the Saint Geran or the main pool bar • Afternoon tea or coffee, snacks and pancakes (3-5pm) • Credit to use on dinner at Saint Geran • Snacks from street food kiosk (midday to 2pm) • Picnic box for guest leaving the hotel for the day (must be pre-booked) • Select drinks including local spirits and house wine by the glass at the bar (11am to 11pm) • Minibar replenished once daily with soft drinks, local juices, water and local beer • In-room tea and coffee replenished once daily • Dine around at sister hotels (transport at extra cost; must be booked 24 hours in advance) • Shuttle service twice weekly to Grand Baie (compulsory pre-booking at Reception is required) • Seasonal free evening shuttle on Friday and Saturday evenings to Grand Baie (departure 10pm and return 1am; compulsory pre-booking at Reception is required; transport is at your own cost outside these schedules) • Selected land and water sports.

The intimate spa, run by local wellness specialists Seven Colours, has three treatment rooms where you can have your chakras tested*, be soothed with a Mauritian massage* that reflects the island’s multicultural influences or just unwind in the sauna.

There is a small fitness centre with cardio equipment and regular aquagym classes in the pool.

If you’d rather combine staying fit with exploring, you can hire bicycles nearby or arrange a round of golf at Heritage Golf Club.

Try-out sessions*, courses* and diving trip*s can be arranged through a nearby PADI dive centre.

There’s a good selection of complimentary water-based activities, including windsurfing, kayaking, pedal boating, stand-up paddleboarding, snorkelling and dinghy sailing, plus glass-bottom boat trips if you don’t want to get wet. For a supplement, you can also try your hand at kitesurfing.

The hotel has installed low-energy lighting systems and solar panels to both save and produce electricity. There are no bathtubs in the rooms because filling one uses the same amount of water as three or four showers. Any food left over from the buffet is donated to Foodwise, which distributes it to people in need, reducing waste and helping the island community. There are several ‘Deep Into Sustainability’ experiences, which enable guests to learn about the richness and fragility of local ecosystem.

Guests over 18 are welcome at this resort.
