Sugar Beach Rejuvenation 25th Sept - 3rd Oct
As soon as I walked into the Sugar Beach Resort I had instant regrets. Regrets that I didn't book two weeks at this beautiful resort. I literally got goose bumps looking out over the gorgeous sunshine soaked palm trees, crystal blue skies and incredible decor of the welcoming reception. We were a group of 9 with one infant and were welcomed with wide arms by the whole Sugar Beach family. As the island had not yet officially opened up we were confined to the resort which was absolutely not a problem at all. We had everything we needed and the "forced" relaxation meant we all left the island feeling well and truly rested. Special mention has to go to the staff. What wonderful employees, from the sommelier, to the servers in the restaurants, to the bar staff, the spa staff, the cleaning staff etc. Everyone was ready with a smile and no task was too small for them. Sorab was our main man on the beach and I cannot big this man up more! He regaled us with stories about his family and told us about Mauritian culture. It was like there were 10 of him as he kept our drinks topped up and the food coming. He is an absolute gem - a dependable, honest, kind & passionate employee and it should be noted. Vanaja did an amazing job keeping our room in order and I also wanted to mentioned her as she was just so lovely and sweet. The spa staff were unbelievable too - we had 3 massages, each as brilliant as the next. I wish I remembered everyone's name to thank them each (Vikram, Adrien, Sashim etc) as they all made our stay
Great hotel with superb rooms, stunning location and excellent food. All areas are kept clean and sensible sanitary measures are in place. Staff all willing to help and we had great service. Make use of the kayaks pedalos etc as great fun. Good luck to all the staff now you are open to tourists again
Relax Weekend 8 to 10 Oct 21 With Family
We are very happy to part of the Sugar Beach family for the second week opening of the Mauritian frontier and hope tourist all of the country will be back again. So far from what we see its promising. Again the whole family had a great weekend with excellent service from all the personnel, good food and good sanitary measures in place. A special thanks to the management specially to Cindy n Sachin n Ali. Keep it up for the great job and all the best to the whole team. We will be back very soon!
Had a wonderful stay here, staff all very friendly and accommodating. Housekeeper Emrith did a brilliant job at looking after room it’s a shame he wasn’t there for the full 12 nights of stay because the standards dropped when staff changed over. Room was very comfy, bedding very good and towels fresh and smelt divine. View from our room (562) was so nice looking out at sea. Server Vikram always knew how we liked our morning drink at breakfast and was always friendly and chatty. I can’t remember all names but serving staff were all good. Food was very good although the buffet did get a little repetitive over a number of days I’d stay here again if we returned to Mauritius
Very nice hotel - not quite 5* but close.
Stopped here for 12nights in an ocean view deluxe room - 562 - ground floor Hotel clean and during 1st 7-days of our stay the housekeeper was excellent (sorry, didnt recall his name) - went over and above, made nice towel ducks on bed and always said hello . The final 5 days (as they changed over last week) - the housekeeping was not as good - didnt really keep it as clean, no extra touches ... just a standard housekeeper. Food .. now this is where I marked it down .. when ordering a meal you expect it to come as on the menu : eg, steak, chips, red wine jus ... so when it comes and you are given a steak and a yellow puree then this is not what is expected. Yes they went and got what should have been there originally but by the time it comes the food is cold and not really the point. This happened 3 out of 9 times when eating lunch ... I did mention to the F&B Manager who was nice about it and then happened 1 once more and then all OK .. so maybe they got a new chef. The most shocking thing is ... the whole hotel does not have any steak knives ... I joke not .. so I had steaks on 3 occasions and each time asked for a steak knife only to be told there are not any .. then someone said maybe there are in cironella (god knows what that is) My point being .. you are trying to be a 5* hotel - if you serve meat then at least have the cutlery to eat it with . rather than trying to cue with something little more sharp than a butter knife !! Reception team - no issues - very friendly and helpful Bar & Serving staff - again, no issues - very friendly and eager .. maybe too eager as on a few occasions we were given the bill to sign when we had not even finished our meal !!! .. not a major issue and they smiled and all was good. Another thing was the doorlock on 562 ... it didnt really work .. if you pulled the door hard then the door just opened (they are sliding patio doors) - I did report this to housekeeping on 3 occasions but never fixed it. so any thief walking who tries doors could have easily got in. Overall a good 4* hotel ... definitely not a 5* if you take into account food, service and everything. If we visited Mauritius again then I would certainly consider stopping here again.
