Outstanding!! Couldn't ask for more
This is resort is everything you dream for Your vacations. I don't even know how to start: Checking in was very efficient: at our room since we where pretty tired and with a baby when we arrived-5 stars The room: we stayed at Fangipani wing. It's more expensive but worth it. Spacious room, free mini bar, very comfortable bed, nespresso coffee machine and a astonishing view to the ocean that bought the extra for an wonderful wave sound to our room. Two downsides: the blackout system doesn't exist and the sun gets into the room very early - although the hotel managed to put some curtains after we complaint, they are not the best solution. The staff: there is in every corner someone smiling and whiling to help. Very well trained, 5 stars service. Room cleaning was the most impeccable I have seen so far in years- flawless. The only team not so friendly was at the republic restaurant. the chef Kalid from beach bar Margenine Island and chef from bazar restaurant were outstanding in meeting my son's food requirement by preparing special food for him with a big smile in their face- priceless The breakfast has everything you can possible imagine and at good quality . Someone making fresh juices at demand, great choice of breads, etc etc . Couldn't ask more too The kids club: very big with all the facilities: team very well trained and very friendly The hotel atmosphere : lovely! Great shops, in the afternoon at the lobby there is someone making crepes and icecreams, and at night with music and lights the atmosphere is great too ! The beach : plenty of space in the beach around the hotel, but the jewel of te crown is Ille Mangenie: the hotel private island : boat leaving every 20min, 10 minutes ride and you find paradise ! The water, the send, the team serving you, the food, and the nature. Makes you feel the most lucky person in this world for been able to experience that. The pool: one adults only, another for kids too. Not amazing , but ok. Heated The spa: very nice atmosphere, the staff and quality of treatments are not aligned With the rest of the services at the hotel Any issue , you grab your phone or talk to someone at the staff and it's sorted . They don't say no at any Request. Indian restaurant and Japanese very good. Buffet at bazar quite expensive, be prepared, as well as everything from drinks to food at the resort- but it's Worth any penny. It was a great choice, I would chose this resort all over again, and I am grateful for the holidays and care they have provided.
Lovely resort let down by service.
We stayed at The Shangri-La Le Touessrok, for the last 4 nights of our honeymoon trip to Mauritius. The resort itself and the surrounding area are stunning, great facilities, beautiful beaches, an amazing private island and a lovely golf course nearby. The welcome when you arrive at the hotel with the traditional dancer and drummer was a lovely authentic touch. The Frangipani wing where we stayed in a Junior Suite was perfect, very quiet and providing a fantastic happy hour at the Republik Beach Bar every night from 5-6pm with a good choice of drinks and canapés. A few other nice touches included were the complimentary mini bar in our room, refilled every day. The individual cool boxes given out at the swimming pool or beach every day, meant you can keep you complimentary mini bar items cold if you choose to take them to the beach with you. I also liked the commitment to sustainable tourism with refillable amenities as opposed to small plastic bottles. The best experience we had during our stay was arranged by a helpful concierge lady who offered us a complementary cabana with lunch & a bottle of rose included at the private island of Ilot Mangenie as a honeymoon treat. This was much appreciated and we really enjoyed this. Our server on the island (sorry I can’t remember his name) has worked at the hotel for 18 years and he was by far the most attentive staff member we encountered, he obviously took pride in his work and wanted to ensure we enjoyed our day on the island, which we really did! We were given a couples massage as part of our honeymoon package which we enjoyed, however the male and females sauna and steam room were separated so we couldn’t enjoy them together, also there was no jacuzzi in the spa and the only jacuzzi at the resort was a tiny part of the swimming pool but not really giving a proper jacuzzi effect. My husband and I had spent the previous 7 nights staying at the St Regis at Le Morne on the other side or the island, and the service there was far superior to what we experienced at the Shangri-la sadly. We both had high expectations on the Shangri-la as a luxury brand however we were both disappointed with the service we received. Aside from a few individuals, we found the staff at the Shangri-La to be overall rude, abrupt, unhelpful. Every request seemed like a chore and the effect seemed very much like they didn’t want to be working there and very few members of staff smiled. It was in complete contrast to the service we received at the St Regis where we get the staff genuinely cared about us and our stay. No one at the Shangri-la greeted us by name only by room number, where as the St Regis everyone called us by our Names which as a honeymoon couple is really special. Although the food was good in the Indian and Sushi restaurants in particular, the service was very poor. We waited at least 1 hour in the Indian restaurant to be served our starters, despite it being only 20% full. The Buffet restaurant La Bazar was a very disappointing experience, it was completely chaotic, difficult to get from your table to the food areas, very loud and very busy. There seemed to be no systems in place and the food and service was very poor. We ate there for the first dinner and then the first breakfast and then didn’t return. We had breakfast at Republik in the Frangipani wing the next 3 days and whilst the menu was much more limited it was a more pleasant and calmer experience. Although our Junior Suite was on the whole very nice, there was one big issue. The lack of blackout blinds. I would have expected a 5 star hotel in a country like Mauritius where the sun shines from 6am, to have black out blinds (The St. Regis did) but they just had wooden shutters, which looked very nice but were totally impractical and we were woken by the sun early every day. When we enquired if anything could be done, maintenance came along with some black out material, a hammer and some nails and put up a sheet of material. The result of adding the material was quite ugly to look at and also meant we couldn’t use the patio doors to get out to the beach. Which was a really shame as we had specifically selected a beach front suite. So we then had to pull this down in the day and have it put back up at night, far from ideal at at 5 star hotel. Overall the resort is very nice, but is unfortunately let down by poor service, a general feeling that every request is a chore for staff and there was a real lack of personal, genuine service which meant that our stay didn’t feel like a luxury 5 stay hotel experience for our honeymoon.
Wonderful experience with Jean P Nazira - Sports & Recreation Manager
We had a great meeting with Jean Philippe Nazira at the Shangri-La Le Touessrok Resort & Spa last weekend. JP showed us around the resort and the amazing sporting facilities. Then to a table at the Sunday brunch, food choices are extensive and delicious. We discussed so many potential collaborations and projects to support and enhance the sports offered by the Shangri-La. Now all we have to do is to make it happen definitely! Thanks JP for your enthusiasm and hospitality.
We got married on an island on an island!
My husband and I got married earlier this year in May at Ilot Mangenie, the Shangri-La Le Toussrok's private island. We stayed at the resort for a total of 4 days and every single one of those days was a dream, most especially our wedding day! Every single person we came across was happy and helpful and went out of their way to make our stay special. I am so thankful to Prithee and her team for being a part of one of the best days of my life.
The hotel is a short boat ride from the resort's private island and Isles aux Cerfs, an island with good shopping. The boats are run by the hotel and run all day. Water sports are offered for a fee at Isles aux Cerfs and the hotel arranges other tours like swimming with dolphins. The food in Le Bazar is fabulous. The variety is mind-blowing. The dessert room is an enormous collection of sinful but heavenly treats. The ice-creams are to die for as well. The vegetables, fruit and salads were good too - I think that vegetarians would be pretty happy. The staff are warm, attentive and endlessly obliging. Nothing is too much trouble! I would never call Le Touessroc 'cute'. It is not frivolous or lightweight. It is seriously luxurious and the grandeur of the place reflects a conscious dedication to delivering a wonderful holiday.
