Diner at bistro Il Baldakkin
9+ We had diner at the bistro of hotel Kempinsky. We made a reservation for a table outside, (stunning view over the pools) but as it was a bit cold for my mum the waitress Cristobel quickly and efficiently arranged a nice table indoors. Our waitress Nina was very kind and helpfull, and gave us some good suggestions about the menu. The food was really lovely, we hope to come again soon and highly recommend the bistro of Kempinsky.
I have nothing but praise for the standard of the accommodation and the quality and caring attitude of the staff at this hotel. The rooms were subjected to detailed cleaning every day and without exception every member of staff, at every level, went out of their way to be helpful and to do everything in their power to make our stay enjoyable.
We arrived here having spent four mad days on Malta, looking for 10 days of calm. Our room was a standard room with country view (over the car park). Nice room, clean and all amenities, good bed linen. Bathroom good, plenty of excellent toiletries. Breakfast in the main dining area, very busy but lots of choice and all fantastic choice. The hotel has three pools, two for children and families and an adult pool which was policed well to keep the younger ones in their own areas. Pool bar staff are young and a bit "green" but run by Nicoli who is very competent. Restaurants (one closed) good, main one fine dining, lighting could be better as very dark to see menus and what you are eating. Gazebo, fresh fish and sushi - fantastic. Shame sushi is not served at lunchtime. the GM was away when we first got there and what was noticeable was that the staff were more attentive and on their game when he returned. we would definitely visit again.
Surprisingly lacking and below par.
As per the previous review if you come with high expectations or even realistic ones - you will be disappointed. Our Grand Deluxe Room Pool View was grand in size and the king sized bed just that however, the furniture was basic and dated with noticeable wear and tear. The amenities were meagre. Coffee and tea facilities and supplies were very poor as with the bathroom. It seems the excuse of covid is an excuse to scrimp and all to the detriment of the paying guest only. There is no “luxury” here. The setting and location are idyllic and it is a little hideaway with special dining terraces and Instagramable pools so we did enjoy our staycation break regardless of the very obvious deficiencies. This isn’t comparable to other Kempinskis we have visited and isn’t on a par to the Phoenicia or Hilton over in Malta. Room service was a joke. We had breakfast delivered every morning. It was speedy but insufficient. The lack of attention became offensive. We were never brought side plates or plates. Apparently, even the very basics are lacking. No turn down. No Guest relation calls, pre check out bill and questionnaires. No excellence in care, service or attention. We left disappointed patrons.
Don’t waste your money
If you come here thinking it’s a 5 star luxury resort you will be very disappointed. The rooms are VERY basic, made worse by the fact that all soft furnishings have been removed due to Covid - yet not in the public areas: go figure! We booked a junior suite but honestly I wish I hadn’t. It’s just a larger room with a coffee table and stained sofa. No bigger than a standard hotel room in most hotels. The hard furniture (desk, cupboards, etc) have seen better days and are scuffed and marked. The toiletries are basic too. The only positive is that it’s very clean. Pool area in need of some TLC and pool loungers have seen better days. I have waited over a year for a week in the sun and paid good money to be here but I feel like I have been taken for a mug! Not what I would have expected of the Kempinski brand and won’t be rushing to one of their hotels any time soon.
