Our first trip to the Maldives and we're so happy we chose OBLU Helengeli. It has been the most relaxing holiday we've ever experienced. Our water villa was beautiful, with a huge, comfortable bed and stunning bathroom. Everything has been thought of that you could possibly need or want. The villa was looked after by the friendly Salim who cleaned and tidied twice a day, so it was always a beautiful space to return to after breakfast or dinner. We enjoyed several treatments at the gorgeous spa, Elena, in one of their outdoor rooms. The food choice at every meal was amazing, from breakfast with fresh waffles and pancakes and eggs prepared any way you wanted to lunch, with wonderful seafood and salads. If you missed lunch (or even if you didn't!) at 4pm Mr Fry would supply a few delicious options just alongside the bar - calamari, freshly cooked wedges, sandwiches and cake! The bar, and the brilliant bar staff were on hand all day whether you wanted coffee or a drink. The house reef was the unexpected highlight of our trip. As complete snorkeling novices we collected our gear and pottered down to the jetty. I could honestly have spent all day in the water, it was breathtaking. Turtles, sharks and so many fish as well as the stunning reef itself. We hired a Gopro (shout out to the dive school staff who helped transfer the footage to my tablet) and have amazing memories to look back on. So a total recommend from us, the most relaxing holiday in the world on a paradise island looked after by the friendliest team of people from check in to being waved off, we will be back! Recommend: we did go barefoot all over the island but were glad we took reef shoes for going in the sea. With hindsight I would have brought a rash vest. But who knew Oblu Helengeli would turn me into a snorkeler?!
Oblu the dream
It was the first time for my husband and me to visit the beautiful maldives.its been a long dream and as it was my special birthday, we made thatvfream come true💞. My husband was very sceptical to spend ten days on a small island but it turned out that he absolutely loved the whole experience on this paradies island. From the greeting- the lovely smiles- the amazing snorkelling- the beautiful sea- the very very tasty and healthy food- the lovely villas- the cosy bar and the sunset bar watching the sharks- the wildlife- the lush vegetation, to the fact that this hotel cares about the enviroment.they try very hard to make a diffrent and still want to do more👍👍... Its been amazing and we like to thank all the lovely staff and our roomboy especially for their lovely smiles and work. My husband( and i of course as well)) are planning to come back next year!!!!
We had the pleasure of staying here for 6 nights recently for my 50th birthday. There was a bit of a delay getting to the island as we had to wait an hour and a half for another flight to arrive before the speed boat could leave with all the guests. The journey was very rough due to the windy weather but we were well looked after by the crew. On arrival we had a smooth check in and were soon settled into our deluxe beach bungalow 243. The island is small and beautiful with a stunning house reef surrounding it. The seas were rough for the first three days but you could still swim and snorkel. We were situated on the west side of the island so we could watch the sunsets. I'd emailed the hotel and requested this side after reading previous reviews about the work on the adjacent island. I'm glad I did as there was quite a bit of light at night and also that side of the island had rougher seas coming onto the beach. The bungalow we had was very clean and nicely situated just a bit back from the beach, we could still see the beach beds and the shore but still felt like we had privacy when sitting on the verandah. The beds were huge and super comfy and the pillows were heavenly. They provided robes, flip flops, umbrellas, life jackets and toiletries and hairdryers. Lots of nice touches. I was impressed by the attention to the environment. No plastic bottles in the fridges, glass water bottles instead, paper straws in the bar and washable coasters for the drinks. We dive and snorkel and this island was really really clean, I only found 5 small pieces of plastic on the beach even after all the wind and waves. We saw no rubbish or plastic on the sea bed or in the coral. A really nice change. There was an abundance of fish on the reef, a few turtles and reef sharks and lots of young fish and shoals. The coral was quite bleached in the shallows due to the sun but when going deeper there were many corals clearly thriving and new coral growing too. The staff were all really helpful and very friendly. The dive centre team were all lovely and very knowledgable. Our fellow guests were mainly germans which worked in my favour as the house white wine was Reisling my favourite! The food was top notch, loads of choices, loads of flavours and textures. There was quite an Indian and asian flavour which we love but plenty of other types of food too. I'd highly recommend the seafood Thermidor! The salad bar was always packed with lots of unusual combinations and gave me a lot of inspiration for when I got home. We paid extra to attend the Valentines Meal at the Just Grill restaurant and it was perfect. The staff had made the whole evening hugely romantic, we ate outside on the sand on tables surrounded by hearts, the food was heart-themed and we had 8 courses that tickled your tastebuds throughout. From the Lobster cappuccino soup infused with lemon grass to the Angus beef tenderloin wrapped with bacon & spinach served with fondant potatoes, praline of veg and a jus de roti and all the small dishes surrounding..you couldn't fault a single thing. It was one of the highlights of our trip, compliments to the chefs. The lovely gentleman that cleaned our room every day left me a lovely birthday message made of leaves on the bed and a turtle made of towels, when we got back from dinner there was a birthday cake too! In addition on valentines day we had a lovely message also made of leaves and flowers on the bed..he must've taken him ages. Pros - the house reef, the food, the lovely staff Cons - the hour's speed boat transfer on rough seas was a bit uncomfortable & the time sat waiting for the other guest's planes to arrive was a bit frustrating
After returning from Helengeli I felt I just had to write a review. I have never had the pleasure of being catered for by such charming, friendly, helpful accommodating staff. Luisa (General manager), Ajay (Manager) and the entire staff could not do enough for you! Two days into my holiday I started with pain in my left knee making it difficult to walk just a few yards. Luisa immediately sent for a crutch from Male, and made a buggie available to take me to and from our villa to the restaurant or bar, day and night. The food was excellent with plenty of variety so always a great tasty choice. Compliments to the many chefs and staff working behind the scenes. My husband enjoyed the snorkelling and there was plenty of life to see. Although the current was strong and not easy at times. Helengeli is a wonderful, laid back island, but what really made it a memorable holiday was the great food and the absolutely fantastic staff!! Our group of six were very emotional when being waved off at the end of our stay.
I visited Oblu at Helingeli along with family of 4 adults and 2 kids on 13th Feb to 19th Feb. It was a very awesome stay there. The staff were very courteous and helped a lot. My mother couldn't walk and staff there helped a lot. I would take the opportunity to name few staff who helped like Rahul & Deelipa, suresh, deepesh from front office. Mr. Lal the Exe.Chef and his team fed us with some great and awesome food. Mr. Vikas and his team Kiran from Helen's bar took care of us extraordinary way. The rooms were getting cleaned twice a day and daily night a chocolate. Also on 14th feb was my Brothers Anniversary they decorated the rooms well.A special care was also take on my son's birthday with cake and followed by Dinner. I would also take a special attention to the GM Mrs. Louisa who took extreme care to make the stay wonderful. A special thanks to her. I will definitely visit again to this place as it's a home away from home.
