Wonderful experience and hospitality from the moment we arrived at the airport. Staff went out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable and relaxing time. The house reef has a super variety of fish. Pippa the marine biologist is friendly and never tired to answer our questions. The quality of food and cocktails is outstanding. The water pool villas are beautiful
Highlight of 2020 thus far
It’s been rather difficult to find a quiet, isolated place to go on holiday during this pandemic. We were looking to getaway from the city life and spend some quality time with the fam. Maafushivaru delivered! From the moment we arrived, all the staff on the island were super friendly and catered to our needs when required. We stayed in an over water villa which was absolutely divine. Newly renovated with beautiful interiors and an even better view of the crystal clear waters. We also managed to squeeze in plenty of activities during our stay - including going on a couple of dives, a sunset fishing trip and snorkelling with magical manta rays 😍🤩. All the food we had was delicious and there was something for everyone. Needless to say... we couldn’t help but eat far too much in the span of one week. Luckily there was a fully equipped gym to burn off the extra calories 😉 Would definitely go back and highly recommend. Solid 10/10 ✨
Exceptional new resort on an island paradise. Everything anyone would want out of their Maldivian vacation
One of the best-resort experiences we’ve ever had or can imagine ever having. Beautiful and new facilities and rooms, gorgeous and well-maintained island, combined with 5-star service, made this the Maldivian getaway that anyone can ever hope and dream of. We took advantage of their healthcare worker promotion, which made our 8-night all-inclusive stay extremely affordable for an experience of such high-quality. There are ample excursions available for marine wildlife enthusiasts, including whale sharks and manta rays as well as breath-taking house reefs. The Food & Beverage was surprisingly exceptional, and one of the major highlights of our stay. We cannot recommend this resort enough for anyone planning a trip to the Maldives now or in the future. Resort/Facilities -They just completed a 14-month renovation and reopened in mid-August. -The architecture is beautiful and very modern. -All of the facilities were spotless. The attention to detail could not be overlooked. -The vegetation on the island was impeccably maintained. -The design of the island made for beautiful views and photos. Rooms -Beautiful, spacious, and brand-new. -We stayed at a Water Villa which is situated directly over the ocean with a staircase leading from the deck directly into the water. Convenient access to the house-reefs. -Tons of natural light as well as access points from the villa to the deck which created a very bright and airy atmosphere during the day. -In addition to daily housekeeping, there was an evening turndown service that tidied up the space from the day, replenished any consumed items, and even left a nightly after-dinner treat. -2 large 2-liter complimentary bottles of water are replenished each time housekeeping visits. Do not worry about bringing any water filtration tabs/devices as potable drinking water was never a concern. -Upon arrival, the mini-bar is stocked with a fruit basket and soft drinks. We rarely consumed any of the soft drinks, thus we never encountered any issues with replenishment. We also did not make use of the alcoholic items which are offered at a fee. -There is a Nespresso machine that got heavily used during our stay because I am a coffee fiend. Housekeeping was kind enough to keep the villa stocked with espresso pods, and even provided extra on my request. -While the villas are a distance away from central hotel operations, they were always accommodating by bringing any items we requested directly to the room (ice buckets, towels, etc.) Food & Beverage -The food was PHENOMENAL. And not simply by typical "all-inclusive resort standards". All of the menu items were thoughtfully crafted, extremely flavorful, usually prepared to perfection and plated beautifully. The head chef, Preeti compiled a broad and diverse menu that never left us wanting or bored throughout our 9-day stay. -The menu is international, with Indian and Asian influences (curries, lamb, seafood, meat/poultry, and vegetarian options) -There is an abundance of desserts and sweet options (pastries, cakes, fruit, ice cream & sorbet) which were all fantastic. -2 of the restaurants were not open during our stay; The Pizzeria and the Teppanyaki restaurant. However, they incorporated dishes from those places into the menus of those that were open. -The cocktail menu is long and ambitious, with several options for anyone's poison of choice. The F&B directors, Ally and Niluka crafted these cocktails with great thought and care. The drinks are gorgeously presented, and instagram-worthy. I rarely came across an option that I did not enjoy, however, most of the cocktails are on the sweeter side. Ally and Niluka were extremely personable and accommodating and would often bring us "experimental" cocktails for our judgment and opinion. -Modifications were easily provided for those guests with dietary restrictions/preferences. On our last evening, I arranged through the duty manager, Sinnu, a private dinner (extra fee) for us. For any couple looking to add even more romance to their stay, this is a fantastic option/service. They reserve a private area of beach (or other location of your choosing), with your table situated inside a candle-lit heart in the sand. There is a special set menu for the evening (Surf & Turf, Seafood, or Vegetarian), though we were able to request menu items from the main restaurant that we thought would accompany our meal well. Notably the items on the set menu were different from what was offered in the ala carte restaurants, and even more delicious, which is saying a lot. We were assigned our own private waiters who were extremely attentive, but respectful so that we enjoy our romantic evening. Several of the managers and staff stopped by to say hi, including Preeti (head chef) which we greatly appreciated and made us feel extra special. Activities -Expect to snorkel a lot, as there are several house reefs scattered about the periphery of the island. Easily accessible from the decks of the water villas, guests can enjoy a swim with an abundant range of marine life including sea turtles, eagle rays, and black-tipped sharks. -Hotel offers a full range of activities (per website). However, our options were limited both by COVID and by delays in the arrival of some equipment. We participated mainly in water-based activities (Snorkeling trips, Scuba diving, Sunset cruise/fishing). The local island trip and private-island excursions were not offered. -Stand-up paddleboards were available for rent. The kayaks had not yet arrived. There was no boat available for motorized water sports. -All excursions were accompanied by the resort's resident marine biologist, Pippa, who was extremely friendly and knowledgable as well as other staff from the Dive Center who was in charge of equipment and operation of the boat. -We HIGHLY recommend the Whale Shark and Manta Ray snorkeling excursions. While sightings are not guaranteed, the South Ari Atoll is the only place in the world to find whale sharks year-round. We were lucky enough to spot a whale shark on both excursions, as well as a manta ray thanks to the eagle-eyed capabilities of the guides (Ibby). The guides (Ibby again) also help keep everyone safe while snorkeling, while maintaining a respectful distance from the animals. My girlfriend is not a particularly strong swimmer, but one of the guides made sure she was safe and comfortable in the water aided her in swimming alongside the animals so that she could enjoy the excursion. -The scuba instructors, Frank and Timi were fantastic and patient. I had never scuba'd before, but felt well-coached and prepared for my discovery dive, which was truly an awe-inspiring experience. -They occasionally had a DJ around lunchtime. There were no evening activities (as advertised) due to COVID and the limited occupancy. Spa -Very beautiful. Gorgeous infinity pool with a view over the ocean. -All of the treatments were very pleasant and well-done -Spa services were very affordable, especially under the All-Inclusive package which allowed for a 25% discount. Staff -The staff were truly amazing at this resort. We experienced some of the best service that we had ever had. We were constantly checked in on during our meals and even while lounging in common areas to make sure that our needs/wants were being met. Everyone is extremely friendly and would often come by to say hello and ask about our day/stay, even if they were not directly taking care of us at that moment. -We originally had our stay split between a Beach and Water Villa, but due to the low occupancy, they upgraded us to a Beach Villa for the entire length of the trip at no additional charge. -We greeted by name wherever we went. The smallest details about our preferences were noted and applied throughout our stay which was greatly appreciated. - We are particularly grateful to Farish, Nishamm, and Ashraf for their exceptional service and for going above and beyond to take extra special care of us. All-Inclusive -HIGHLY HIGHLY the recommend all-inclusive package. The listed ala cart prices for all menu items were quite inflated and could end up in some expensive bills for non-all-inclusive guests. For example, our "check" for breakfast daily was $110, and upwards of $200-$300 for lunch and dinner. And even though my girlfriend doesn't drink alcohol, it was still the most cost-efficient option. -Some "top-shelf" alcohol brands, as well as non-house wines, are not included in the all-inclusive package, however, the staff will always inform you of this fact, and a discount is applied to those items. -Snorkel equipment was able to be checked out by guests upon arrival and kept in their villa throughout the stay. We only returned ours just prior to departure. -Non-motorized water sports are also made available without a fee. -The spa services and excursions are offered at a 25% discount, however, with a 12% government tax and 10% service fee, the cost is essentially the sticker price advertised in their menu. Travel Logistics -Communication (e-mail) prior to our stay was timely clear and efficient. -The hotel will coordinate the seaplane transfer from Male for you. The flight schedules that we observed was a seaplane departing Male for the resort at 10am for our flight arrival from Doha at 9am, and 3pm leaving the resort for our departure flight at 8pm. However, these do not get confirmed until the evening prior. There is a lounge for the seaplane terminal for your arrival, however, this lounge is not available for your return. A hotel representative at Male airport will instead help shepherd you through check-in. The seaplane flight took appx. 30min each way, and costs $350 US roundtrip; this was included in the cost of our stay. -COVID test was not required prior to arrival for our stay, however, starting September 10th, the Maldivian Board of Tourism began requiring negative testing. -Our two options for transit were Dubai (Emirates) or Doha (Qatar Airways). Emirates required COVID-19 Safety Precautions -All staff wore masks whenever interacting with guests and while handling food and beverage. -On-site doctor/clinic with COVID testing capabilities -Guests required temperature screening prior to departure -Adherence to mask use by guests was lackadaisical (we abandoned use after Day 2). Given the emptiness of the resort and the fact that the guests were only pairs of couples, this was not a huge issue or concern during our stay but may be for some more cautious guests when the resort is busier. -Masks were required on the seaplane -Guests had to reserve one-hour blocks of time in the gym the day prior to use. A 30-min window after each use was then taken to clean and sanitize the equipment. While the intent was for the gym to be used by only one guest/reservation per block, on occasion there were 1 or 2 other people using the facilities. -The gift shop was only open by request, and all the products that we touched were set aside for sanitation prior to being put back on display.
Incredible location, newly renovated, friendly dedicated staff
Just returned from Maafushivaru, and am trying to figure out why I left! We loved every second of our time on the island. Staff was friendly and dedicated to comfort, experience, and pandemic safety. While I didn’t stay at the resort previously, the newly renovated hotel is gorgeous. I particularly loved the architecture and light fixtures, where everything allowed you to overlook the turquoise water. Very grateful for their healthcare promotion for the year as well! It is smart, considering healthcare providers are also diligent at infection protection given the current pandemic! Cannot wait to return!
This must be heaven
This was our honeymoon and additionally our first time in the Maldives. We had such an amazing time there and we could not imagine any better hotel in this area. Due to Corona, we had the feeling of having our private island. Employees All employees were super. From the gardeners to the managers, everyone was so super friendly, helpful and courteous, never embarrassed to make fun. They were all very eager to do a great job and to constantly develop. Room service came twice a day and the waiters were always looking for one. They all gave us the feeling of being special guests. Special thanks to our waiters Niluka, Reesham and Nisham and many others, who we had so much fun with. Hotel The hotel has been completely renovated. Super modern and beautiful complex, but still unobtrusive and very harmonious with the surroundings. The rooms at the beach and at the waterfront were super split across the island, which created enough privacy and divided the people well. The architect did a really great job. Especially the design of the Moodhu Grill is worth mentioning. From the bungalow to the restaurants/bars and pool, the way was paved with plants and palm trees. There was a great gym with good equipment (brand new Life Fitness equipment) and great views over the lagoon with baby sharks, water bottles and fruit basket. Prices for food and drinks are quite high, but not surprisingly for such a high class hotel the Maldives. Room The watervillas and waterpoolvillas have a great view of the lagoon, where various sea creatures make their rounds. The Waterpoolvillas are much closer to the house reef than the Watervillas, from which you have to snorkel a bit to the reef. The design as well as the equipment of both villas are the hammer, beside great care products, devil music system, Nespresso coffee machine and tea (free of charge) and a wine refrigerator in the Waterpoolvilla. Food We did not have a buffet, which did not bother us, on the contrary. At breakfast our "Foodtaxi" (Driver Reesham) drove from table to table with a good selection of rolls, fruit, jam, yogurt, salmon, vegetables, cheese, smoothie and juices. Coffee was available in all variations and in addition you could choose your Turkish, Maldivian or Indian breakfast a la carte. Egg lovers also got their money's worth. Dinner was served in the a la carte restaurants, Moodhu Grill and Cielo. The food was fantastic, we tried different appetizers, main courses and desserts every day and one was better than the other. Very nice and prepared with love. The menu is international, but mainly with Indian and Asian influences (various curries, lamb, sushi, fish and seafood, poultry, vegetables). After dinner, the room service still offered a sensational bedtime treat. Activities Maldives are boring - absolutely not! We spent hours every day snorkeling and diving a few times. The two dive guides Timi and Frank ran the dive center very professionally and with passion. The equipment was brand-new and full service- the equipment was always ready and waiting on the boat. They tried - considering the individual level of performance - to go to great dive spots with us by boat. Absolute highlights among many others were the manta rays and the night dive. Many (harmless!) reef sharks can also be found at the house reef. During the snorkeling trip with marine biologist Pepper and Ibby we saw a whale shark, a wonderful experience. There are also SUPs for rent, but we never did that. In the evening we trained the remaining energy in the gym.
