We picked Kanuhura and the Maldives for my boyfriend's birthday (he has a birthday every 4 years so it was very special)! From the moment we stepped off the seaplane we were looked after by the incredible Kanuhura staff: professional, always smiling and ready to help out. I can't thank them enough for the lovely attentions and making our time at Kanuhura so special - Mr Romeo for his warm welcome, our wonderful villa host Naif, Vel at the main restaurant and many others. We stayed for part of our trip in a beach pool villa and the rest of the stay in a water villa. Both were stunning and decorated with impeccable taste. The restaurants all have exquisite food and variety for all tastes. We loved going on the two other islands for a swim, very easy to go to for a couple of hours with a boat. The beaches are absolutely stunning. I've stayed in many Leading Hotels of the World but Kanuhura really raised the bar and can't recommend it enough. Thank you Kanuhura and hope everyone is staying safe. We can't wait to be back next year. Julie
Our long-awaited bucket-list trip to the Maldives - we were delighted that our selection of Kanuhura was a huge success, and would highly recommend it! Accommodation: we asked for a sunset-view bungalow, as not too fussed about having over-water villa. The bungalow was a fine size for two, great seating areas in and out, and a very comfy bed, with high quality linens. The open-air bathroom was great, with husband and I respectively claiming the inside/outside shower areas! Lovely fluffy towels. Our lovely smiley house-maid Yenda kept everything beautifully clean and tidy. I liked having the sun loungers available, used them daily and loved watching the little hermit crabs scuttling about. Only slight adjustment to recommend would be to cut back the greenery at the entrance from the beach slightly, to allow a little more view outwards. It was lovely being able to step out to the beach/sea, and walk along the waters edge (e.g. to go and see turtle nest nearby)! Amenities: we tend not to do much on our beachbum-style holidays, but there was a nice selection of things to do. I loved the bikes provided, and did pedal my way up and down the island a few times. I was also brave enough to try snorkelling for the first time, huge thanks to Federica from the marine wildlife centre for holding my hand and being so patient, also for pointing out various beautiful fish! We enjoyed the sunset cruise and dolphin watching, and the short trip over to the other island for lunch. I also had a lovely massage at the spa. Food & drink: well, wow! This is always an important part of our holidays, and we try to select well, usually involving hotels with multiple ALC venues. So we were a little apprehensive about Kanuhura really only having two such additional venues. Needn't have worried..... the A Mano buffet offerings were excellent. Plenty of choice, good quality food - especially the Friday seafood and Tuesday beach barbecue offerings. Husband in 7th heaven with the seafood!! Lovely desserts. We did try the ALCs - Asian food at Veli was fine, however we preferred Bottega's Italian-style menu. The wine selections were very good, so much so that I didn't really venture into cocktails, unusually for me. Well - except for the weekly Managers Reception up at Iru bar - amazing cocktails, leading to a slight stagger on the way home! We were regulars at the Cowry Club for lunchtime and pre-dinner drinks, happy just to watch the planes coming in and out, and to play cards whilst trying to spot the fruit bats scooping water from the pool! Staff: as everyone says, the staff are just incredible, and really 'make' the holiday. So many to mention, and I know we will miss out loads. Suresh the F&B Head is amazing, remembers your name from day 1, and always checks in that everything going well. Vel, Inoka, Nathascha and Aanis made our A Mano visits special. Frank was a sweetheart at our daily lunches at Bottega. To the 'boys' at Cowry Club - Raja, Issey, Ken and Ajith - thank you from the daily beer drinker.... And to Mr Clency Romeo, the 'big boss' - very visible all days, and should be proud of his amazing team. The only (tiny) disappointment for us was the Villa Host. There was a perfunctory check in most days, but as we were pretty undemanding, there was little for them to do, apart from sorting out my snorkelling venture. The one thing we did ask for (to find the missing 'do not disturb coconut') never happened, despite several requests of two hosts. However - having a host isn't a major component of our holidays, so no big deal. In summary - Kanuhura is a fantastic place, and we would certainly plan to return at some time in the future. White sands, blue seas, great food & drink, perfect staff. What's not to love. We hope that Kanuhura team are managing to cope through our current global COVID19 challenges, and that there will be a rapid return to 'normal' for this lovely destination. Sending our best to you all.
Incredibly relaxing wonderful holiday
Having visited the Maldives a fair amount of times I was not sure that I had booked the right hotel and was a bit nervous when we arrived. Was I wrong, it was bliss. We felt so relaxed, It was like Time stood still, there was plenty of time to do everything, always a table where you wanted to sit in the restaurants. Iru bar staff appeared with the mojitos when we sat down. The twice daily cleaning of your room was worked out by day two as to when you had breakfast and dinner, so there was no awkward waiting. The boat always seemed to be waiting when we wanted to go over to the other islands. - The staff. Totally charming, friendly, made you feel nothing was too much trouble ever! - The islands. I love staying on an island but I like to be able to get off it as well. Having the two deserted islands to visit and with sunbeds was brilliant and I loved the little boat to get to and fro. - No snorkelling - what rubbish, we had great snorkelling, sometimes a bit shallow but you then felt more part of it. Great free snorkelling trip with the Marine Biologist. Even better paid trip $55. Went to an incredible drop off and saw loads and lots of turtles coming up for air. Then stopped on the way back and snorkelled with about 40 nurse sharks up to 3 metres long - phenomenal! - Restaurants. Food was amazing. I cannot have gluten or dairy but Mr Suresh made sure I could eat everything and in all the restaurants. (He even gave me some of his delicious gluten free banana cake to eat on the plane)Veli was our favourite. - All inclusive. Highly recommend, makes everything so much more relaxing - could have a few more wines though to choose from. - Sunset trip. Part of all inclusive but again great to be out on a boat, saw loads of dolphins. - Bicycles. It Is a beautiful island to cycle round, particularly when it is lit at night. - Yoga. Walking to the yoga platform and watching the sunrise as you do your salutations is pretty special. Jimmy was great. - Beach Villa. Not the biggest or most beautiful but it had everything we could possibly want. We were Sunrise side and loved the breeze, we never got hot and sweaty (I think the breeze changes to the west side at a different time of year, worth checking when booking) - Rain. We did not have any but noticed they have lots of entertainments if it rains. Thank you Kanuhura, we will be back.
Excellent all around option in the Maldives
We spent an excellent week at Kanuhura on a Retreat Pool Villa sunrise side. The villa was spacious with a ver pleasing outdoor pool. It also has added privacy compared to other lower entry level beach villas, therefore being an excellent option for couples. The only critique I'd point out is with regards to maintenance: the thatched parasol was in a poor state (we've seen others like that too, as well as some of the beach villas roofs which looked very poorly) .. and lastly the ripped faux-leather sofa, on the pergula.. when you're in such premium villa this is something that shouldn't happen. We advised Rooms and our host and they "noted it". The majority of the staff - rooms and restaurants predominantly - are very professional and offer great customer service, they really look after you very well and are restless. Food is also excellent and the 3 restaurants available certainly meet everyone's expectations. I also had to be seen by Dr Ahmed and he was 10/10, thank you! The real gem is undoubtedly the Jehunuhura and Masleggihura deserted islands. We had a lovely lunch at Jehunuhura and we really enjoyed it although I'd again point out some issues with maintenance... at Masleggihura we had the best experience, a lovely light lunch and the island all for ourself - the most amazing lagoon and quietness. Highly recommended and I hope Kanuhura maintains it as is or perhaps goes the extra mile as Coco Palm did and allows guests to stay in the island overnight... just an idea :-) we also took a private speedboat excursion for 3 hours and the snorkeling was very good and the crew professional. The spa looks really impressive and certainly kept to high standards. As of today we'd most likely rank Kanuhura as our 3rd most preferred island in the Maldives because it's a very solid and safe option for a quasi-Maldives experience.
Love in the time of Covid
This is an excellent hotel not just because of it's lovely location or the beauty of the cristal clear waters, or the specious villas (also the clear sky toilets :)) or the delicious food. It's the staff that makes a huge difference, Vel from the restaurant, our villa host Talib and the whole gang just made the magic touch to our holiday with their friendly, funny, hardworking and kind personalities. Most of the facilities are free of charge, so you can grab your snorkel from the diving center and enjoy a whole new tropic underwater world. It was great to observe the tide while sunbathing on the terrace of our villa. As very novice divers we didn't have to go far from our villa to observe a good variety of fish, we even saw reef sharks, stingrays but our favorite was the picasso fish. The gym could have been better equiped however I bet most visitors would prefer to enjoy the outdoors anyway. The island is definitely not overcrowded so you can enjoy the surrondings in a quite environment. Riding the bike was sort of fun and you defintiely won't need shoes. All in all Kanuhura was far far beyond our expectations in every aspect. Can't wait to go back to this PARADISE.
