Our home from home for Christmas
Our third Christmas in Kandolhu and looking forward to our next one. Laura, Marc and their Team make Kandolhu our perfect piece of paradise. It's Kandolhu's perfectly balanced mix of high end food, genuine friendly service and tranquil Island life that make this island so different to others we've been to. And Kandolhu tastefully spoil guests with extra Christmas indulgences (like champagne and caviar in the lagoon, sundowner wine and cheese tastings with expert sommeliers and a mixologist flown in for that extra special experience of very special cocktails). We were treated to an off menu breakfast on our last day of an insanely delicious Maldivian tuna curry, extra spicy! If like us, you're after a romantic getaway, experiencing the best the Maldives has to offer, with a no shoes vibe, then Kandolhu may just well be for you.
We visited Kandolhu for our honeymoon in March 2020 and cannot praise the island, or the staff, enough. It is absolute paradise. We have never seen sea so clear or had such amazing customer service on a holiday. We wanted somewhere peaceful and quiet, with excellent food, and that is exactly what we got. All of the staff were brilliant and very attentive - from Laura and Marc (the management) to the waiters and bar staff, and the cleaners and gardeners too. The food was extremely good quality and the cocktails were amazing! We visited the spa once and the gym most days; the facilities were often so quiet it was like being on your own private island. Unfortunately covid-19 meant we had to cut our honeymoon short, and towards the end of our trip the island had to reduce the number of staff available and restaurants that were open. However, this was all handled superbly and Laura and Marc were absolutely amazing throughout - we cannot thank them enough for how well they handled the situation! We hope to return for honeymoon 2.0 in the future!
Our new Maldives favourite
Kandolhu is the fourth island we have visited in the Maldives over the last few years. I did a lot of research to find a new island - our criteria is good snorkelling, a small island and preferably few or no children. The reviews all sounded so good too so we decided to book for 2 weeks in March. We were met at the airport and the transfer to the sea plane was very smooth. A lovely welcome when we arrived by the friendly and helpful team, including Managers Mark & Laura. We booked an overwater villa as we like to sit out and watch the sea. We were really happy with our room. It was spacious, west facing for drinks at sunset, and was clean and bright. One thing we are particularly fussy about is the comfort of the bed and here the beds were fabulous, the pillows perfect and great bed linen. The bathroom was very big too and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the mini bar which was kept well stocked, though it was also nice to have a drink at the bar. We tried all the restaurants apart from the Japanese one. We loved Justin's Mexican lunches and also enjoyed the Sea Grill and Olive. The food was always fresh and delicious. The resort is made extra special by the staff who are so helpful and friendly. We didn't really need anything but I know if we needed something or had a problem it would have been dealt with. A major highlight for us was the snorkelling. The range of fish and sea life was amazing. It was easy to access the reef from the jetty (or the room) and we spent several hours a day in the water. We only did one boat trip as it was a bit windy on a couple of days. But the trip we did with Morgan on a lovely calm day to a couple of nearby reefs was excellent and it was good to see a reef with some recovery in the coral. We saw several turtles every day, many eagle rays and shoals of beautiful fish. I've never seen so many turtles in the Maldives. We had to cut short the trip to get back to the UK but that was all handled smoothly by Kandolhu and by Kuoni. Overall we had an amazing holiday. We will definitely be back next year. Our thanks to all the team and our best wishes to them and their families as they take time out due to Covid19. Anne & Nigel
Intimate Heaven on Earth
We spent 10 fantastic days first week of March 2020 on this very beautiful, peaceful resort. Only 30 Bungalows, 5 Restaurants (!), it felt as if we had been the only guests on the island. We had booked a beach bungalow which was perfect, all inclusive, the extensive “maxi” bar was filled up every day. The variety and the quality of the food in the different restaurants was oustanding. We enjoyed using the well-equipped gym and relaxed in the spa after a professional massage. Our hosts, Laura and Marc were lovely, always around to ask whether everything was ok. The restaurant and room service was personal and attentive which obviously is the result of the hosts treating their team respectfully. This was undoubtedly our most relaxing and luxurious holiday. We shall certainly return in a year or two.
I do not have the correct words to describe our time here. The best I can do is peaceful, paradise and perfection. Yes, the location is idyllic but it’s so much more. The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. They were super attentive without being overpowering. It was a super slick operation which made it appear that everyone was so relaxed about everything, suggesting that in fact everyone knew exactly what they were doing, how to do it and when! I’m sure they get excited guests telling them how amazing the turtles / rays / sharks were all the time, but they were still happy to hear our stories too. I have never been anywhere where the staff knew my name before, and although a little weird at first being greeted by name when we arrived for breakfast, we soon got used to it, and it really added to the lovely experience. We will be returning without a doubt.
