A wonderfully unique holiday
So normally we are repeat customers of Moofushi, Constance's other Maldives resort. We choose it because it doesn't have motorised watersports and less families. Due to Covid, Moofushi was unavailable and so Constance moved our booking to Halaveli on this occasion and we figured we'd try it out... We cannot possibly compare! Apart from the night of our arrival and the night before departing we were the only guests on the island. So no kids club and no jetskis, no buffet and no way to say how this resort is under normal operating conditions. BUT - we can draw some conclusions The team present, managed by Tangi and JP, were absolutely superb. To maintain their attention and service at the level they did was amazing. The team has truly stepped up in order to cover many areas beyond their 'own' in a manner which was seamless. Every meal a perfect suggestion taking into account our likes and preferences, every evening a specially set out table. Concentration to detail and attentiveness never lagged; not easy when you never know if you'll even set eyes on us for hours... We are not going to try to mention each individual, but a special thanks to Manish for liaising with the chefs, his friendliness and knowledge (wine pairings were great) but most of all for his care and thoughtfulness in making each moment special. He is a real asset to the company for all of those attributes. Having been given some lessons and taken home a few recipes from the chefs, we are TRYING to reproduce some tastes (quite successfully!). As to TGI divers and boat crew for the diving; our thanks for being so proactive and such great stewards of the environment; thank goodness you were available, as the Maldives are very much only partially above sea level - it's greatest treasures lie below. Great diving with you guys! These folks are safe and capable divers who not only accompanied but also unobtrusively guided (ie not the 'chase me or lose me' nor the 'constant tank banging & pointing' types, but actually just good company). A big thanks also to Darko in the well-equipped gym and as tennis coach for my tennis-newbie wife, and to the guys in the spa for a fantastic massage. (Gym!?!?!! I hear some cry? Listen, if I didn't go there the feeling of being stuffed with great food would be uncomfortably constant, and believe me... you can easily add many kgs in a couple of weeks with that level of tasty and temptation!). 16 nights water villa all-inclusive. Seaplane was great, airport was empty, everything and everyone involved in 'moving us' to and from the resort were exceptionally virus-aware and careful. As a last point; we are very negative about any resort which allows or supports the (rather 3 star last century) damaging habit of fish-feeding, just for the ignorant cheap thrill of seeing sharks from a jetty... We were aware of videos of this occurring there and were very happy to hear that it is recognised that it should not be tolerated. If for no other reason ...come on - it's not a great business idea to train sharks to be there then wonder why people (who don't know anything about sharks and fear them all) hesitate to snorkel, dive, sail etc! So congratulations Halaveli, we now face a dilemma... How do we visit these guys who were so great and we regard now as friends, but still visit the ones we love in Moofushi? This is getting complicated!
FIRST REOPENING REVIEW AFTER COVID-19 SHUTDOWN
We spent two weeks at Constance Halaveli for our Honeymoon and we were the second set guests to arrive at the resort for the the reopening after being shut down since March for COVID-19. The resort opened on July 15th and we arrived on the 19th. Our stay was incredible and we could not recommend this place more! COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS: We thought the resort did an excellent job of managing the precautions needed to provide a safe but enjoyable experience. A negative PCR test was required of all guests 72-96 hours before arrival. We didn't have any problem getting one and appreciated that all guests were tested before arriving. All of the staff wore masks the entire time we were there. And we do mean everyone and the entire time. Even maintenance staff that were working in the ocean. Temperatures were taken with a laser thermometer every morning at breakfast and we were asked if we were feeling any symptoms. The staff did a great job of social distancing themselves as well and there was hand sanitizer lots of places. We didn't wear masks very often because we had been tested and there were very few other guests at the resort (3 other guests most of our trip) and the majority of the time we were outside in the sunlight. We felt way safer from COVID on this island than we would have anywhere else in the world. An island is the perfect situation to create a infection free bubble. TRANSPORTATION: This may have been the only negative of our trip but in the end none of this was the resorts fault and they handled it as well as they possibly could have. You arrive by sea plane after a short flight and the day we arrived the weather was poor and the seas were very rough. Shortly after we landed the plane had a propeller strike with a big wave and was inoperable. Because of that the plane wasn't able to make it to the unloading dock and had to tie up to an anchor. That meant the resort couldn't pick us up in the regular boat and they had to use a very small boat to shuttle everyone to shore. This took almost two hours to complete and as you can imagine in rough seas this was very stressful and several people got very seasick. Once on shore we were promptly taken to the closest villa where we were upgraded to a two story beach villa. We were told that they thought we would enjoy some dry land on the calm side of the island and they couldn't have been more right. They also thought to make us some ginger drinks that really settled down our stomach. We later found out if the pilot had landed on the other side of the island where the water was calm he wouldn't have had any of those problems and he had been told that by the resort but he ignored them. In the end none of this was the resorts fault and they handled it as well as they possibly could have. Food and Drink: We had an very different dining experience than other guests have previously. Because there was less than 8 other guests on the island at any point during our stay and because of COVID all the restaurants were closed. This might sound like a bad thing at first but what the resort told us is we can eat our meals anywhere on the resort we want and we can order whatever food we want. So most days we ate our breakfast and lunch poolside and most of the dinners were elaborate romantic settings on the beach or on platforms over the water that the staff had schemed and surprised us with. And the food was incredible. Everything we ate was a true culinary experience. The service from Jean Pierre and his staff was on point with being there to provide everything you need but not being over bearing. We also did the CUP all inclusive package which we highly recommend because of the value and not having to think about money the entire trip. Basically 98% of the food menu was included a couple hundred different wines and 90% of the liquors (including top shelf except like the 50 year scotches). We also did a wine tasting in the ocean which was a great learning experience and a ton of fun. ROOMS and HOUSEKEEPING: Both the beach villa and overwater villa we stayed in were wonderful. The cleaning and turn down service was also great and was never intrusive. SPA: My wife an I probably had 10 massages during our time at Halaveli and all of them were simply wonderful. The staff there and the masseuses were delightful and very good at their craft. We recommend also taking advantage of using all of the non motorized water craft which you can use at no charge. We really enjoyed the paddle boards and sail boat. The snokeling is also incredible only a hundred feet or so from your villa. Also if you can take the back of house tour. It was really impressive to see what it takes behind the scenes to run this island. In the end we can't recommend this resort enough. It's an incredible island but the staff is really what puts it in a class of it's own. Everyone all the way up to Tangi, the GM went out of their way to insure we were enjoying our time in paradise. It truly can't get any better than this!
This is the place you fantasize about. Gorgeous. Private. Fun. The Constance team took great care to see that our every need was taken care of....largely before we even thought of it ourselves. We had the perfect beach villa. We took advantage of a couples massage. We spent every evening watching the sun set with a delicious beverage. Our "theme" for this trip was total relaxation. We moved at our own pace and it was glorious. We did not take advantage of the full board option...that is not so much our thing. But looking at menus and the items included, it seemed to be a nice option. Especially if you're a foodie. As mentioned we enjoyed the casual sandy bar in the afternoons and the list of included cocktails was very nice. No skimping there. You will not be sorry that you booked here.
Perfection - worth every penny
We just returned after a 5 night stay at the exceptional Constance Halaveli. With so many options in the Maldives, it's difficult to choose the right resort. I can tell you that from the moment we landed in Male, we knew we had made the right decision. Someone was there to greet us after exiting customs, escorting us to a beautiful reception area where we could wait for our sea-plane. While we had to wait 90 minutes, we were in a peaceful well accommodated space where we could freshen up, have drinks and light bites and check email. Once we took the short 25 minute flight to the island, a full team was there on the deck upon our arrival, with smiles on their faces...ready to serve and ensure the perfect holiday. We were immediately given a tour of the facilities and taken to our over-water villa. Our jaws were open the entire time, as even though I researched meticulously, even I was not prepared for the beauty of this resort and the setting. Our villa was to die for, with incredible views, modern accommodations, our own plunge pool, 2 giant closets and a beautiful bathroom. That evening, we had dinner at Jing, the nicer a la carte restaurant. I was blown away by the impressive menu, gorgeous setting and most of all, the amazing sommelier Manish. He was not just friendly, but genuinely excited about introducing us to wines around the world. I was surprised that with our all inclusive package, we would get exposed to so many wonderful wines with someone who was so knowledgeable and passionate about wines in general. His passion was contagious and we came back a second time for an even more spectacular dinner experience with Manish. The next few days were spent exploring the resort and mostly relaxing on the gorgeous perfect beaches. Most of our time we felt like we had the island to ourselves. We wanted for nothing...the service here is truly incredible. It's as if they can read your mind and before you even realize that you need something, someone is already there ready to serve. We have stayed at many wonderful 5 star properties around the world, but the thing that truly differentiates this resort are the people. Normally, "great service" is transparent, it's done well when everything is seamless and without complaint. But here, for the first time, we actually got to know many of the staff, remembering them by name, and actually looking forward to seeing them and engaging them. And they remembered us....where we were from, how many kids we have, our favorite drinks and what kind of wine we prefer. It was as if we were staying with friends...not a "resort". Jean Pierre, the Food and Beverage Manager was wonderful. He was so friendly and authentic - truly wanting to know who we are so he could make our experience exceptional, and could seek ideas on how to improve for future guests. He is a gem and true "differentiator" for Constance Halaveli. He has such a bright future ahead and I can't wait to see where he ends up in a few years! Manish and Arul were both sommeliers, and a very special part of their team. They helped ensure we had several unbelievable dinners. Their passion and knowledge and "fun personalities" exceeded our expectations. Lucas in the front office had a wonderful personality and even gave my husband a private "behind the scenes" tour of the operations. He was engaging and authentic and went out of his way to answer all my husband's questions. Catherine was our snorkeling guide and was fantastic! She has such a love of the water and it was infectious. She was also so friendly and engaging. Darko, the fitness instructor, gives the most AMAZING "functional stretching/massages". After arriving at this resort, book time with him. Immediately. Do not hesitate. He combines chiropractic techniques with stretching and massage to completely refresh you. Find him at the spa or the fitness center. I could honestly go on and on.....the people here love what they do. The service is exceptional because the people they hire and train genuinely want to make people happy. This could be felt and is honestly why our experience here was so phenomenal. All the restaurants are really very good....again, much better than I was expecting. Even the breakfast selection is everything you could ever want and more. Fresh juices, homemade croissants and other decadent pastries, as well as food from other parts of the world from curries to dim sum. The sunsets are out of this world. Grab a drink around 6:30 pm and be prepared to be dazzled. Every. Single. Night. For me, the only part of the experience that could have been better was the Spa. The massages were "ok", and they could have done a better job ensuring that the steam room, sauna and hot tub were operational. When we checked in for our treatments, none of these facilities were ready, which was surprising. But all in all, a truly wonderful stay. While it is a bit pricey, we honestly felt it was worth every penny. I will not only be recommending this place to everyone I know, but will be thinking of a way to return in the near future. Until then, I will forever remember Constance Halaveli.
Our last week in Constance Halaveli was absolutely amazing. Our villa was so nice and big close to little private beach, where is no one apart from you. You don't need any shoes because there is pure and shiny sand around whole island. We really had a good time and for sure we gonna come back soon. We've met also very very lovely guys, they work there so hard and they do the best they can. Our best one is Bandara, he does the most special drinks and everything you just ask for. He became our friend, cause he really knows what he does, he cares about you whole week. And we really appreciate it. Bandara thank you for all you have done for us and hopefuly see you sooon.
