Luxury at a superb price.
TBH- this would ordinarily be out of my league but I heard from a work colleague that she had a fab time there and it was very reasonable and advised to go to the Horizon club. I booked direct with the hotel and the Horizon club. As soon as you walked in , the staff were so helpful and could not do enough for you. Our room was lovely, very clean and cool - with the AC. It was 3pm and it was afternoon tea in the horizon club which switched to the “ happy hour” 5-7pm with alcoholic drinks and snacks as part of the package. The staff there were brilliant and very attentive. Breakfast was buffet style with eggs served to order- I really couldn’t fault anything after staying 4 nights. If you go to KL - stay here.
This is how hospitality should be delivered.
Recently spent three nights here at the start of two week visit to Malaysia and Borneo. We stayed in a Horizon Club room which was superb in every respect, we were able to watch the evening light show on the KL Tower from our window. It's well worth going for the Club room as you get the benefit of the Club Lounge. Breakfast is served and there are drinks and canapes early evening plus a calm place to relax at any time. Swimming pool here is really nice and revitalising after a morning sight seeing. Now it's not particularly hard to provide comfortable rooms etc etc but what is hard is to provide faultless customer service at every point of contact. This hotel delivers just that. They are without exception charming, efficient and friendly. The Club Lounge team were outstanding and we felt like family very quickly, feels wrong to single out one person but Ayden, buffet chef, has a great personality and surely a star of the future. Our thanks to the GM and all his team for making the start of our trip so memorable.
Gem In The City
Currently I am on an extended stay with my companion (this is our 6th week) at this iconic property. Being an ‘old timer’ our patronage of the hotel stretches over a good part the past 3 decades. Apart from the evolving changes to the property, a number of staff have come and gone. However, to our delight, many are still around, making it a nostalgic experience for us. The property could certainly benefit from an overhaul (especially its hardware), as is with most hotels since the pandemic. I am certain as the tourism industry picks up, it would be a race for hotels to ensure that guests have all the latest amenities and mod cons to cater to this digital age. Having said all that, we find the general upkeep of the hotel to be impeccable especially the gardens and the grounds surrounding the property. We are truly impressed with the level of service we receive throughout our stay here; in particular the staff at the Horizon Club, where we have our breakfasts and pre dinner drinks and canapés. The team led by the Zie could not do enough for us. We noticed Zie isn’t afraid of getting her hands dirty and on many occasions helped to clear plates and clean tables during peak periods. Apart from being incredible ambassadors for the Shangri La brand, the entire team went beyond the call of duty to ensure our stay is as comfortable and seamless as possible. They are particularly good at anticipating the guests needs and preferences. We observed everyone using the facility here is treated with the utmost courtesy and respect. If I may make mention, Yi Xin, Thela, Ina and Azizi stood out with their impeccable service and consistency. Having stayed here for several weeks now, we are particularly impressed with the executive housekeeper Shirley Koh and her team who keeps everything in the room ship shape; from replenishing items to the general cleanliness of the room. We noticed they understand about guests preferences and that made our stay even more enjoyable. Also our thanks to Razali, the duty manager who initially helped with our bookings and also Peter for their invaluable assistance. We can very easily say that this is not merely a five star hotel but definitely one of the great hospitality institutions in the city centre.
Great hospitality and the level of attentiveness is tiptop.
A stay meant to be a birthday surprise for my guest who have never experienced a five-star chain got off to an embarrassing start due to a rooming error that assigned my room number to an already-occupied room, but the FOH and hotel were swift to take corrective actions. In my 9 years in the travel industry, I have not seen or heard of a more personalised approach in how the staff acted to make good of the whole incident including coming to my breakfast table and apologise in person. All the more that was impressive was that they knew which table I was seated despite me choosing my own table. Now that I no longer book for clients but for myself in my personal capacity, I even appreciate it more than ever how hotels should treat every guest. And despite the embarrassment, the hotel and the team at Shangri-la deserves to be commended for the great hospitality and tip-top service standards.
Disappointing indeed.... never again
Have stayed here more than 10 years ago. Am not sure what happened to the famed Shangri-la facilities and services. Rooms are small, expensive, and found a lump f hair in the bathroom. That goes on to show how much do they care about the renowned Shangri-la experience. Feeling the staff are stretched and not prompt/proactive probably due to the crowd. Didn’t really feel the warm hospitality. The interconnecting rooms were quite small, dated and more like vintage. The place really needs complete refurbishment. Was surprised to find that thew rooms I booked didnt come with the breakfast. There is a need to have a better booking facility. Bathrooms were simply HORRIBLE. The pool is rather disappointing as it’s very small. We wanted to have some coffee and cake in the lounge by it was closed by 9.30pm. Soi much for a weekend? I agree with some reviews that for such a price range, would expect better hospitality and family friendlier. Suggest…stay in their sisters concern Traders hotel or elsewhere
