Chi, The Spa is a unique stand-alone 'spa village' that sits on an 'island' connected to the hotel via a private causeway. Traditional Borneo treatments begin with a welcoming foot ritual. Facilities include eight villas each with their own herbal steam room, relaxation area and private changing room and a spectacular private yoga pavilion extending out over the South China Sea.

Facilities include a leisure centre, petanque, table tennis and pitch and putt. Each day there is a menu of activities to choose from including t'ai chi lessons, blowpipe competitions, napkin folding and coconut bowling.

STAR Marina is the centre for watersports with a range of motorised and non-motorised activities. Try stand-up paddleboard yoga at the swimming pool, rent a kayak or try an introductory dive. Every day there are transfers to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.

Shangri-La Tanjung Aru supports two local primary schools and has upgraded classrooms, installed water filters to provide clean water and provided science and technical equipment.

It has also developed a marine conservation programme and has created the Clownfish Discovery Centre to educate guests on their efforts to protect this species.

Children can enjoy the special treatment and extras that this family-friendly hotel provides. There's a water play area with fun slides and a giant tipping bucket and water balloon fights.

Cool Zone Kids Club (5-12 years) offers daily activities including arts, games and traditional handicrafts, and milkshakes and ice cream with a choice of delicious toppings at the Cool Box Ice Cream Bar.

A tourist tax is payable at the resort.
