Pleasant Stay & Nice Grounds
Good location in the heart of the city, and about a 15 minute drive from the airport, also walking distance to loads of restaurants & two of the main Wats. Also walking distance to the banks of the Mekong & the night markets. Located up a quite street the grounds are lovely with a big swimming pool. My room had a balcony overlooking the grounds with a large king size bed & a big bathroom. The decor of the rooms is okay but not that flash & a little tied even though the hotel is only 10 years old. There is free wifi, it’s not very strong but adequate for emails & social media but not strong enough for streaming. There is TV with a few international channels. However during my stay the sound and the pictures were not insync for some reason & it was quite annoying to watch a movie or CNN. Breakfast was included in my room rate which is quite nice including both hot & cold dishes. I thought the service was adequate in the normal layback Lao style. A pleasant couple of days was spent here.
Peaceful and well located
This hotel is well located for Vientiane’s tourist attractions, including the river and night market. However, being on a narrow side lane it escapes traffic noise. It is well designed, the guest rooms surround a courtyard garden with pool. Staff are friendly and welcoming, if a little slow. Same day laundry, even on Sunday. Wifi speed is acceptable.
A real treasure.
We stayed here before going on a Pandaw boat tour on the Mekong and we booked this on a recommendation from our travel agent. A real find I must say. We were only here for 2 nights but would have loved to have been able to stay longer. We had a suite, consisting of three rooms (large ones) and a very spacious balcony overlooking the swimming pool. The crowning glory was the four poster bed, complete with mosquito net. The staff could not have been more helpful even if they had tried. We were on a B and B basis and there are lots of restaurants nearby to try. Loved the Pool, very welcoming after a long flight. This my idea of a good hotel
Jaded 3 star, bad service and not deserving of the price
How this hotel still rates as 4.5 stars and the certificate of excellence on this website is beyond me. 1. Sure, the setting of the pool, grounds and the converted villas are lovely, but the rooms are both plain and tired. The furnishings are very 1990's. Cane furniture and beige drapes are very dull. There was poor TV reception as well. The rooms are also fairly small given the price. 2. The bathroom is dated with a shower over bath that delivered very ordinary water pressure and there was no hot water at all in the sink. The tiles are jaded, cracked in places and with varied colour grout suggesting many patch up attempts. 3. The free mini bar of water, soft drinks, coffee and tea is a nice idea, but then poorly executed. There was no tea in our room and when I rang reception to ask for a tea bag I was first told they had no tea. When I said that could not be right as they served tea at breakfast I was told tea would cost extra! When I went to speak to the manager to point out this was directly contrary to the signage and the room guide and my booking, some tea bags were finally provided. When I asked to see the manager, the reception desk obfuscated and declined to let me speak to him/her. The service at breakfast was good, but there is something lacking in the customer service approach of the front desk. To obfuscate and deflect about a simple requests, such as tea, suggests a deeper lack of training. 4. The hotel provides a little sign to place on the bed if you do not want your sheets changed daily, but it explicitly states that the beds will be made. We returned from our sightseeing to find the bar fridge re stocked, but no cleaning or bed making performed at all. The signs were even still on the beds. We had to ask for the room to be attended to and cleaned. 5. Previous reviews suggest the hotel has a happy hour in the bar and late check out free of charge. If that was once the case, seemingly no more. A sign now sits at the front desk to advise that late check out will attract a charge of 1/2 a night cost. For the price charged by this hotel of AUD 200 per night, these types of extras could be expected especially when other Vientiane hotels offer such things, and given many flights to Europe and Australia leave in the evening. Overall there are much better value hotels in Vientiane and this was by far the worst of the 5 we stayed in on our trip to Laos and northern Vietnam. The standards of Lao service elsewhere were excellent, the rooms more generous and more beautifully appointed.
#1 hotel in Vientiane--
My wife and I stayed here for our xmas and anniversary celebration just last month, and we loved everything at the Ansara Hotel. The setting is lovely on a side street just off the Mekong River...the hotel itself is situated between two Buddhist vats--we often heard chanting in the morning, and the roofs of the buildings are part of a wonderful vista of the neighborhood buildings. The staff are switched-on and welcoming...right after we settled into our room the hotel manager/owner knocked on our door with two workers--they delivered a tasty anniversary surprise to us: a housemade French pastry/cake with 'Happy Anniversary' written in chocolate sauce and a bottle of Spanish sparkling wine called cava...plus, they had taped a big 'Happy Anniversary' sign on the wall in our room. . .really sweet and really lovely--totally warmed our hearts and made us feel welcome in Laos. The breakfast served in the dining room each morning is delicious--definitely partake of this during your stay...the pool is crisp and refreshing--definitely use this...the grounds of the hotel are like an oasis--definitely soak it all in...and if you can, book one of the suites for your stay--we did the Ipinga Suite--located on a top floor overlooking the whole property (room #15)--spacious and wonderful. Our only criticism is that the bed in this suite is a tad hard...wish it was a bit softer. . .otherwise all was good. We will stay here again if we ever visit Vientiane another time.
