The Ansara is a charming, boutique hotel that adequately met ours accommodation needs for our short stay in Vientiane.
For our 40th wedding anniversary my wife and I enjoyed an 18 day Asian ‘smorgasbord’ tour from 28 December 2019 to 14 January 2020 visiting in order Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Laos and Singapore. The Laos component of our holiday was Wendy Wu’s private five day “Laos in Focus” tour organised through Asia DMC Laos, incorporating three nights in Luang Prabang and one night in Vientiane. The hotel chosen for us in Vientiane was the charming boutique Ansara Hotel. It is located on a very quiet street and is a short walk to the Mekong River and the night markets. Our visit to Vientiane was all too short and consequentially so was our stay at the Ansara Hotel. Nevertheless, in our view “It is better to have stayed even a night than not at all”. This is a very cosy and comfortable hotel. We were given a Savvy Room. Our Queen size bed was comfortable and featured a hand-woven silk headboard. We also were impressed with the wooden and rattan furnishings and the exposed wooden floors, which gave the place an interesting old fashioned appeal. The Bathroom facilities were adequate for our needs. We also had our own small private balcony. The hotel has very nice landscaped grounds and a swimming pool which we could not take advantage of because of our very short stay. The complex has a number of separate white painted colonial looking buildings that house the 24 rooms and 4 suites available for guests. Because of our short stay we chose not to have dinner at the hotel; however we did experience the lovely La Signature Restaurant on the first floor of the Reception building for our breakfast. The Restaurant is very nicely appointed and features lovely red curtains on either side of the windows. Dining here gave us a feeling that we were back in the 1930’s. It certainly exuded a touch of elegance. As for the breakfast, that was a very enjoyable experience with a good range of food on offer. The reception area was very nice and informal. Next to the reception was the lobby with comfortable chairs which looked very cosy indeed. Despite just an overnight stay in Vientiane, we saw some great highlights on a “whirlwind tour” such as Wat Sisaket, the temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues; the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo; the sacred structure of That Luang Stupa; and the imposing Patuxay Victory Monument, well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. We also enjoyed a fine dinner at the Khop Chai Deu Restaurant, around 700 metres away. The Ansara is a charming, boutique hotel that adequately met ours accommodation needs for our short stay in Vientiane.
Hotel is beautiful, pool is great. Good location - very close to the night market and the Mekong River. Our room was very spacious and had a little terrace where we could sit and look at the beautiful garden and pool area. We were able to use the minibar free of charge while we were there.
Could be better
This is a lovely, clean hotel in an excellent location. The room was nice but the balcony was so very small. The pool area was well kept with fresh towels readily available. The breakfast was good with a lot of choice. The main problem was that alot of the staff could not understand basic English, which made communicating quite difficult as we dont speak Lao! This caused confusion on several occasions.
Lovely hotel, great location
Had a fabulous time at the Ansara. The location is perfect for sight seeing, local restaurants and the night market. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and the breakfasts were excellent. The staff and the facilities were also first class
