The perfection of staying at Nairobi Tented Camp.
NTC is a gem, hidden in the forest part of the incomparable Nairobi National Park. Staying a night means you can be the first out at sunrise and the last in at sunset, when you have the best chance of seeing lions, rhino and even a leopard. The tents are spacious and very comfortable, the staff charming and helpful, bucket showers, great food. Even a 24 hour visit feels like you have had a real break. I was in the park and on my way to the camp, half an hour from work. 9 lions later, a glass of wine in hand on the deck of my tent, I could have been a million miles away from anything.
Great city get-away, well managed and friendly
The tented camp is located in the middle of the Nairobi National Park, 9 accommodation tends, a living room tend and a dining room tent. The setup if tranquil and friendly. You can walk to a nearby stream but overall walking is limited - this is a National Park with wild animals so most likely you will spend your time going on safari drives or doing organized walking tours (at a different Park location). The food was excellent, a la carte during Covid times, and we enjoyed the breakfast with eggs, bacon, fruit and juices and great options for lunch and dinner. The place has WIFI but we tried to go camping with our kids to disconnect. You can drive your own car to the tented camp and the roads are easy to navigate outside of raining season, otherwise they come and pick you up. We stayed with 3 kids and they organized us extra beds and a baby cot. Very professional and helpful. My only comment is - check the weather forecast, some months will get very cold so bring extra clothing. We will definitely come again soon.
Great help in uncertain times
We should have just finished our stay at the Nairobi Tented Camps, but we were not able to come due to the global COVID-19 outbreak. While this had been a hard season for everyone in the travel and tourism industry, the people here have worked hard to find a solution that would with for everyone involved. The folks at GameWatchers Safaris (who manages this), graciously agreed us to defer our stay for 12 months. Also, they worked with is on a few additional incentives since we allowed them to hold 100% of our fees. Getting a full refund would have been ideal, but I know how hard the economy of Kenya had been hit. Thus, this is the time for flexibility. We are looking forward to our stay next year when the outbreak has relented and travel had resumed.
Our Kenya adventure
We visited Kenya for safari trips and went through game watchers safari tours. We landed in Nairobi and were greeted by the staff from game watchers for a tour and took us to our hotel. We had a wonderful day then next morning headed to Nairobi tent camp. It was incredible advent. The tents were huge comfortable and the staff wonderful. It’s amazing that this beautiful park is right in the middle of Nairobi. You forget that the minute you enter the park. Being our first time ever we were in awe of all the animals birds and generally the landscape itself. We were thrilled to see a mama rhino with her baby off in the distance only to have ten minutes later have three rhinos walk right in front of our Jeep. We were never afraid and got some wonderful memories to go with our pictures. The meals were excellent and gin and tonics refreshing. They made sure we got to our next flight to continue on to our next camp. Game watchers made sure we never had a thing to worry about!! Highly recommend them if this is the adventure your looking for!!
Good start to our safari
We stayed 2 nights in mid February, and were the only guests. It was a good start to our 11 night safari. Arrived late in the evening, driven to the park gate and there met by our guide Gordon. Next day he found both White Rhinos (family of 4) and Black Rhinos (2 adults, one young) on our game drive. A first for us. Gordon was a very good guide in all ways. The roads were quite rough due to the excessive rains in past months, but he was careful. Sammie looked after us in our tent, Amos and Dickson served our meals. Refillable water bottles were provided. The food was quite good, portions quite large! We asked Amos to request smaller portions for our dinner (after a very large lunch). Apologies to the chef, as I am sure he did not like seeing leftovers on the lunch plates. This park is unusual in that it is so close to the city, and we have photos of the Rhinos with the city buildings in the background. All in all, a good experience and we would recommend it to all.
