Finally back in Africa
As soon as Kenya came off red list we booked a trip starting with Little Governors Masai Mara. We are seasoned safari goers and LG did not disappoint. We were met by our guide Joseph at the landing strip and the safari began . He is a super guide with excellent eye sight. We saw all 3 resident prides of Lions.15 of the Paradise pride, also my favourites Cheetah elephants and so much more. The camp was not bust and the tent staff and food were super. Hope to return, now going to the coast.
Words can't fully describe what it feels like to stay at Little Governor's. You're completely (but safely) immersed in wildlife the whole time, from hippos and elephants right outside the tent to the marsh life to the baboons, warthogs and banded mongooses that come through with regularity. The tents are handsome and comfortable. The food is quite good. And the staff are superb--professional, friendly, caring, and attentive. We stayed at other camps on our safari adventure, but LG was the favorite of every single person in our group. The Mara is also a rare, special place on earth that should be seen, if at all possible.
First time to Africa as a family of four (2 adults & 12 & 15 year olds) . We arrived to Little Governors via one of their small passenger planes from Wilson Airport in Nairobi. As we were approaching the Maasai Mara, we could see giraffe, and many animals out of the window-we were so excited. We were greeted by Moses, in a Land Rover jeep who would be our game driver for the week. Camp was just amazing, a large marsh area out front of the tents where animals graze and drink. The tents were very comfortable, spacious and clean. The food and service were top notch. Moses was so knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. We could not believe all the animals we were able to see... Pretty much everything but Rhino & Cheetah. Loved hearing the animals at night from the tent. Would highly recommend and hope to be back one day.
Honestly the whole Governor's experience is amazing. Hats off to the entire team - everyone works so hard to lay on an unforgettable experience. The luxury tents, exceptional food, and the knowledge and experience of staff while out on game drives, make it so ridiculously special! Thank you!
THE BEST CAMP IN THE MARA
All I can say is Little Governor's Camp is amazing. I just returned from a trip and from booking with Lillian until I had to return home, it doesn't get any better than this. Lillian was amazing and handled all my booking details and checked with me to make sure everything was fine. From Nairobi, I flew with Governor's Aviation, and being retired from the Federal Aviation Administration, and a pilot, Charles the pilot was great. Their Cessna Caravans are great aircraft and very dependable. The flight to the camp was about 45 minutes and very smooth. Upon arrival at the landing strip, I was met by my guide, Moses Manduku. Moses was excellent throughout the trip, and knew where to find all the wildlife. We did two long game drives each day starting before sunrise, and ending at sunset. Each day we had breakfast in the Mara on the hood of the vehicle. The picnic breakfast was great, and sooooo much food. Returning to camp for lunch, the service was the best, and the Chef, Kenneth was incredible. I can honestly say the meals he prepared were better than most meals I've had in the US. He would come to my table and visit after each meal to ensure the food was good, and it was better than good. Fortunately, due to Covid, I had the camp to myself with the exception of a film crew. As far as Covid worries, there were none. Everyone wore masks, and had hand sanitizer everywhere. Even Moses wore a mask on our game drives and carried hand sanitizer. Now, the tents. They were not like you would imagine, and were spotless and comfortable. I had a king size bed which was very comfortable, the shower had plenty of hot water, and my laundry was done each day. I can honestly say, in all my 65 years this was the most incredible trip ever, and I've traveled the world. I never had to carry bags or my camera case as they were carried for me each day. After dark, you are escorted to and from your tent in case there are any animals roaming the camp. At night there was a hippo that would wander around my tent eating grass and snorting. I slept like a baby listening to the calls of all the animals each night. There was always a wart hog family roaming through the camp each day and didn't seem to worry about people. The bed was very comfortable, and when my attendant turned down the bed each night, he put a hot water bottle in the bed which was great because the nights do get a little chilly. The camp manager, George was there to see me off each morning, and upon my arrival each day. We visited every day during my stay and discussed the drives and everything else. George is Scottish and has the great accent making it enjoyable to listen to. During the daily game drives I was able to photograph every animal with the exception of the elusive leopard and rhino. January is a great time in the Mara because all the animals had their babies roaming with them. There is a camp doctor available should you need him. I can't say enough about the camp and my experience. The only bad part was having to leave, especially when I got an email from British Airways two days before my departure saying I must have a negative Covid test before I can board my flight. I was not real happy with the short notice, and here I was out at the camp away from civilization. How do they expect me to get a test before I leave? Well, George, Lillian, the doctor, and Romy one of the owners, made it happen. They had a test kit, and a driver to get it to Nairobi five hours away so I would have the results and could fly. They truly do go out of their way to take care of your every need. I would highly recommend a trip in January to avoid all the tourists and vehicles swarming around getting in your photos. I am a professional photographer so it's important to get just the right shots without other distractions. Africa has always been on my bucket list, and since I have cancer, it was a trip I had to make. Hopefully I will be able to return someday to enjoy the beauty of the Masai Mara, and the wonderful staff and accommodations. This is a trip I would recommend to everyone, and Little Governor's camp was without a doubt, the best choice in the Mara.
