Highlight of our holiday in Kenya
Every aspect of our stay at the Karen Blixen camp was an utter delight. The location of the camp is stunning - just metres from the Mara River and set in lush vegetation, attracting a rich array of wildlife. We could watch and listen to delightful hippos as we ate our meals and relaxed in our tents. Communal spaces were tastefully decorated throughout with a cosy fire pit lit in the evenings. The food was delicious with an opportunity to try Kenyan dishes at every meal. And most importantly, the staff running the camp were wonderful hosts with genuine interest in their guests' and a passion for the work undertaken by the camp. We were very impressed by the community enrichment programmes, seeing firsthand the schools providing skills to local Masai villagers, and the efforts to minimise the environmental impact of the camp through use of extensive photovoltaic arrays and rainwater collection. As for the game drives, we could not have asked for a better experience. Led by our expert guide, Lorna, we had a thrilling time seeking out creatures big and small with great success, including multiple sightings of the elusive leopards. Altogether, we had a wonderful stay and forged some unforgettable memories - of the many places we stayed in Kenya, this was by far the best.
MARA CONSERVANCY MUST STAY!!
If you want to experience individual service, quiet natural surroundings, fab food a la carte(even a traditional Kenya 5/5 dinner) ... JUST GO! We went on one afternoon drive and saw a pride of lions, cheetah with cubs after an impala kill, leopard cub dragging an impala up a tree all because of of Karen Blixen's Guide!! Highly recommend. Not to mention hippo watering hole-running river in front of property!
This was the most fantastic trip I have ever done! The people that work there are so warm and welcoming and our guide Lorna gave us the most fantastic experience with the animals. I did not want to leave! :)
Another fantastic stay at Karen Blixen Camp
We've recently visited Karen Blixen Camp for the third - but almost certainly not last - time. The location of the camp on the banks of the Mara river is outstanding, the tents are large and comfortable and one can hear the sounds of the wildlife - in particular the hippos in the river. The food is great and so is the service. But all of this would not be meaningful if the game drives - the main reason for visiting Mara North Conservancy - were not such great experiences. The guides we've had on every visit have all been very knowledgeable and willing to "go that extra mile" in an attempt to make our visit an unforgetable success. A warm THANK YOU from my wife and myslef to all the staff for making our third stay another great experience. Should I suggest an improvement then it would be to change the times, where hot water is available. During our stay it was from 05.130 - 10.00 AM and again from 17.00 - 22.00 PM and to us it doesn't make sense to have hot water available during the times when guests are on game drive or having meals in the restaurant. And as the shower is outside the tents then having a shower befroe sunrise or after sunset is a pretty cold experience. So please change the hot water times to include hours 12.00 - 15.00 so we can enjoy an outdoor shower in the sunshine in between game drives. Karen Blixen Camp desreves the warmest recommendations from us.
What an experience!
Top holiday and a dream come true. We were so well looked after by the team at Karen Blixen camp. Our guide, Lonna, she was excellent. Regarding facilities: overlooking the river, the tents were luxurious. The food was of high quality, but special mention to the bush breakfasts. A bush breakfast in the middle of the Mara is an experience you cant forget. Wildlife was great and exceeded expectations. Karen Blixen highly recommended!!
