This is a very nice camp, situated along the Mara River. All the rooms face the river, which was unseasonally full of water. The camp has quite a bit of small game wandering around, dik dik, mongoose, and saw giraffe and antelope on the banks of the river opposite. In spite of it being very wet due to the heavy rains they are experiencing, we saw very many elephants, with small babies, a cheetah, lions with a cub, gnus, Thomson Gazelle, Topi, with babies, hyena, eland, dik dik, giraffe, hippos. Beautiful sunset too. The food was very good, and chef was only too happy to accommodate your needs. The staff were very good as well. The bed was very comfy, and the outdoor shower was great. Piping hot water. It's sad to note, that because of Covid, the visitors are few and far between. Really affects the jobs. I pray that the situation changes soon. But otherwise an amazing few days spent in the Mara.

relaxing eveningings, amazing game drives
Sadly I was the only person at the camp in late September as C-19 continues to devistate the mara tourism industry. However the team were a delight despite this and made me feel incredibly welcome. lillian was wonderful and very helpful with my various requests, Dominic my guide was great and the rest of the team a delight. The facilities were very impressive, including a delightful pool, an dthe location on the river allows you to watch the drama unfold, with hippos, elephants and impala regualrly on display. Being in the Mara conservancy area is another advantage - with the local community getting regular payments from the camps, and a careful balance of cattle and game , along with much more flexibility as to where and when you can move around the area. In addition only guests of camps on the concervancy are allowed, meaning when tourists do return you will find less vehicles here than in the national park. Food was great, and while you can never guarantee what game you see, in my case it was magical, lions on a kill, cheetah and amazing birdlife. Thoroughly recommended.
The most magical experience of my life
This is extremely overdue, but when my mom and I visited Karen Blixen (July 2019), we were just blown away by every single thing. On our last night, I said to Jerome (who is the BEST): "I'm not sure what time we need to be picked up tomorrow." And he goes "I don't even want you to think about it. Just enjoy your last night here and I will handle the rest." And the next day they just seamlessly guided us wherever we needed to go. Like...what?! Is that even real life? But that's how everything was at Karen Blixen. One night they setup a private screening of Out of Africa for us with a private dinner. I had never seen it, but it was filmed in Masai Mara and to watch it at this incredible camp in Masai Mara with delicious food, wine and with my mom was so special. We ate lunch everyday overlooking the river with hippos, giraffes, elephants , etc. The food was great. The service is unparalleled. Each morning before our game drives, we were brought fresh coffee directly into our tent. And the tent! It was so perfect. The outdoor shower was gorgeous, the tent had a little deck overlooking the river, we had electricity (solar powered), and everything else we could need. My mom had a massage that she said was the best she ever had. I And the game drives! Our guides, Dennis and Albert were incredible. They were funny, thoughtful and so knowledgeable. We saw the Big Five! And honestly, even if we hadn't, it would have been just as magical. They had snacks, wine, beer, cold water etc. One day we went on a walking safari which was so cool too. Our last morning, we saw a lioness carry four cubs across a stream, one by one in her mouth, while the sun was coming up. It's honestly hard to believe it was even real. They also did a private breakfast for us out in the bush. A whole table setup with eggs and pastries and everything you could possible want. It was just incredible. And the camp itself was GORGEOUS. And I know I mentioned this already, but the wildlife you can see just from the camp - holy crap. I wish I could remember everyone's names right now. The staff really are the best of the best. So genuine, so attentive, and made us feel like Kenya was our home. The realllly sad part, is that I lost most of my pictures, but the memories I made, will truly last a lifetime. I know that sounds cliche, but it's true. Asante sana, Karen Blixen Camp.
Free, relaxed and easy safari after 5 months working at the height of this Pandemic
It was an awesome trip. I went on holiday with my 8 year old daughter and some friends. Tips:- Make sure you ask for a local Masai (within the staff) as your guide during the game drives. They know where to locate every animal and natural feature and allow bathroom breaks for kids. Makes the loooong game drive bearable for children. Beware of the noise at night....it is only harmless hippos as the tents are along the Mara River. Good security ........though you are really in the wild... Small pool but very refreshing after a long game drive. The kids enjoyed. I am Kenyan and I wonder why I didn`t do this trip a long time ago. Staff are very very friendly and respectful. The food was 5 star...a la carte .... still dreaming of the Tamarillo Juice ..
