Recommended highlights

Singapore

Stroll around the world-class shopping district of Orchard Road, dominated by glitzy fashion malls, or visit Singapore’s Botanic Garden and wander through exotic displays including the National Orchid Garden. Down by the waterfront, you’ll find two of the city’s most iconic sights: the beautiful Gardens by the Bay and the gravity-defying Marina Bay Sands hotel. Make sure you sample the mouth-watering local cuisine; culinary experiences here range from traditional street markets to swanky fine dining restaurants – including the legendary Raffles Singapore.

Tokyo

The ‘land of the rising sun’ is a sophisticated, energetic and high-tech city. Stroll through parks of cherry blossom, browse boutiques and art galleries, and discover fascinating shrines. Technology stores spill over with the latest gadgets and Harajuku girls parade the latest eye-catching fashions, yet the city’s roots are firmly placed in history with ancient shrines and the world’s oldest continuous hereditary monarchy.

Auckland

This ever-expanding city has two superb harbours and a thriving waterfront. Known as the ‘City of Sails’ due to the number of yachts dotted around its harbours, the city’s high-rise buildings are interspersed with green-lawned squares, and its cultural diversity creates a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Head to the top of the 328m-high Sky Tower for panoramic views over the city, and visit the Auckland Museum to see the largest collection of Polynesian artefacts and daily traditional Maori performances.

French Polynesia

French Polynesia is better than the photos; even images of sky-high jungle-clad peaks, plush overwater bungalows and lagoons in every shade of blue can’t capture the free-and-easy island vibe, the smell of hibiscus flowers and the bath-like warmth of the water. Tahiti is the gateway to the rest of French Polynesia’s 100+ islands and if you’ve ever fantasised about being marooned on a tropical island – but with a Michelin-starred chef and your own pool – we can recommend The Brando.

Los Angeles

LA is all about Hollywood glamour, clean living, dreamy California beaches, and serious shopping on the likes of Rodeo Drive and Melrose Avenue. Chase the iconic Hollywood sign through the Hills, see Walk of Fame celebrity handprints at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, and take in breathtaking views over the City of Angels from ever-peaceful Mulholland Drive.
