Villa Igiea’s Florio restaurant is a picture of restrained opulence, complete with classical statues, marble columns and giant potted plants. Breakfast here, gazing out at the sea through floor-to-ceiling windows, or in the winter garden room. The appealing menu has plenty of choice, from sesame bread with citrus honey to organic egg dishes. Return for simple but stylish Sicilian cuisine, made with seasonal local produce, in the evening.

During the day, the hotel’s two bars offer not just drinks but lighter fare that’s perfect for hot summer weather. Tucked into the villa’s sandstone vaults, Igiea Terrazza Bar has a large outdoor terrace, a cocktail list based around herbs, fruit and vegetables grown in the grounds, and an inventive menu with a focus on Sicilian salads, sandwiches, pasta dishes and fish. At the Alicetta Pool Bar, set in a pretty metal waterside pavilion, options include sashimi, seafood platters and the catch of the day cooked on an open grill. Homemade ice cream is the perfect way to round off the meal.
