Treatment provided at reception desk - Reply to Hotel Director Post
I am writing again (now in English) to reinforce the unhapilly experience during my stay at Hotel Art last week. My wife and I were celebrating our "second honeymoon" in Rome and had chosen Hotel Art to stay for 3 nights. Not only during the checkout, but at least two more times, the hotel reception desk treatment was not acceptable. I have been working as an employee for more than 20 years at worldwide companies like IBM, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst Young and Capgemini and I never had a problem to communicate in English or Portuguese language. That´s why the misunderstanding mentioned in the Hotel Director reply cannot be simplified as a comunication issue.
Sadly did not live up to my expectations!
I selected this hotel to treat a friend I had been visiting in Italy for a short 2 night stay in Rome. First the location is excellent - could walk from the train station and it is in the center and accessible by foot to all the sites. The hotel is certainly clean and the main floor and courtyard is lovely. The description of "fun and quirky" and the price point (yes location adds to that) lead me to expect a more interesting room. We were on the green floor and the hall is horrendous in this lime green. The room on the other hand was basic and very boring - no character at all for a boutique hotel. So adequate for a place to stay but I was disappointed that it did not live up to the description.

Great location and clean rooms Breakfast is fine and staff is helpful This Hotel is fine for a 2 to 3 night stay This is a small boutique hotel and does the job adequately for a short visit We had a minor maintenance issue in our bathroom and this was fixed immediately. Great coffee Air conditioning works fine and decor is stunning. Overall a pleasant experience.
Firstly , the charming location cannot be faulted and the accessibility to the centre of Rome is perfect. The overall building and public areas are charming and well maintained. Sadly for our special celebration it all went downhill. We booked via British Airways with Superior rooms included in the price. However , we requested via direct email two interconnecting rooms , one with a bath. After several emails we were informed only deluxe rooms have a bath ! And the connecting room has to be deluxe also. So as it’s my husbands 70th I agree to a upscale of €180 , it’s deluxe apparently. The rooms we were assured would be adjacent but not interconnecting , I agreed. On arrival we are shown to rooms that are not adjacent and are replicas of the superior room photographs on the hotel website. I discuss this at length with the desk but no shift. On day two the lighting broke and the hotel porter confirmed upon asking we are in superior rooms , not deluxe. So the long and short is this , The rooms are tiny and warm and in desperate need of Updating. The bathroom grouting in mouldy and the light fitting casement fell off the socket. The parquet flooring is tired and dark. The rooms are poorly lit. The room fridge is not adequately Cold. The rooms in the heat of Summer must be insufferable. Certainly don’t be kidded into the upscale of your room ! The plus points , The decor is beautiful in the lobby and care has gone into the Art and charm of the building. The breakfast is truly excellent with the exception of eggs boiled so hard they could be weapons. The location cannot be faulted & is excellent. Rome is the most beautiful city and we didn’t allow the rooms to spoil our stay , but the proprietor should adjust the website to show the room as deluxe and not superior.
We ordered room with bath. We payed trippel of other hotels, cause we wanted bath. We got a dirty room, with no bath and no wiew. When we asked to change Hotel, they said "No money back" we then had to pay 80€ to get what we actually payed for. We travel all around the world(3-4 times a year) , and this might be the wurst Hotel we have ever been on. Rooms are dirty, ugly and Staff is NOT helpful. They blame hotels.com (witch we will make sure hear this) and take No responsebility for the nasty rooms. Great location though, but thats the only nice thing here. So 400€ Just to sleep for some hours in a nasty Hotel :(
