Dreadful. Horrible, surly staff. Simply put, it is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It is pretty and clean. That I cannot deny however the negatives so far outweigh these two positive comments, I cannot give anything other than one star. We were also lied to about a number of things. We asked to deal with management who showed us only contempt. This later continued when we left and formalised our complaints. Stopped in many nicer and friendlier hotels. Everything here is a chore too, ordering a drink, food, it is just not relaxing. Pompous in the extreme. We left, and went to another 5* near Cisternino and that was fantastic, polar opposites!
The first stop on our honeymoon....
Normally we would always book a hotel by the sea but on this occasion our amazing travel agent (@360privatetravel) showed us this inland oasis that has a sister hotel on the sea front that you can use the beach as well as the restaurant and so we decided to give it a try and it makes a nice change to be away from the noise of the sea. We have a deluxe room which is rustic in style but ample in size with all the amenities you could need. The hotel is vast (but only the function rooms) and yet it still feels very boutique with some great food, beautiful pool and a handsome breakfast buffet (there is also a breakfast menu available for eggs, pancakes & so on) with fresh juices, amazing coffee all within the relaxing settings of the pool side tables. They also have a very well stocked bar and plenty of places to sit and chill outdoors to enjoy the warm atmosphere.
Peaceful Oasis in Puglia
Lovely hotel a couple of miles outside Monopoli, which itself is a picturesque town with plenty of restaurants and bars. Il Melograno is a masseria, so very characterful and rustic, rather than modern and sleek. However, that is part of its charm. We found the staff to be extremely helpful and polite and always ready to help with trips and recommendations. The pool is large and very welcome in the heat, though there was sometimes a shortage of sunbeds at certain times of the day. Breakfast was plentiful and there was an option to have cooked eggs, omelettes etc as well as the cold buffet. Food in the restaurant was of a good quality and well presented. It was also lovely to be able to dine outside in the evenings. Lovely spa in the grounds, together with an additional heated pool. There is a daily shuttle bus which goes to the sister hotel on the beach. There is a charge for use of sunbeds/towels, but the private beach itself is a great size and the sunbeds well spread out (unlike a lot of other beach clubs!). There is also a bar serving drinks/coffees and snacks. Taxis from the hotel into the town are very expensive and it would be great if the hotel could perhaps provide a shuttle bus in the evenings.
We stayed here for a week.Beautiful place , although far from 5 star. Service non existent at times as they were so short staffed. Pool service was occasional. I saw people go to their mini bar as it was faster than waiting or finding someone. Staff lovely tho management need to address the lack of them . Definitely not worth the premium prices charged. Certainly not worth it , for what we paid. Perhaps a few more sun chairs by the pool??! The hotel shuttle bus to Monopoli would be a great help too. It was no more than five minutes and the charge was 25 euros each way. Two drops a day would enhance so many peoples stay , especially those nervous to drive. Most 5 star hotels would provide this service. They should focus on pool area and service . Cut the grass more often , less mosquitoes.... A children’s menu? We did enjoy our stay tho we were very frustrated and disappointed with the set up. A lot more be done here to make it a real five star hotel .
Wonderful couples get away
Just wanted to say that we had a wonderful time at Il Melograno. Everyone there made us feel at home and were very friendly. Breakfast was very good. The beach club and restaurant was great and very clean. We never ate any meal at the hotel other than breakfast. We found ourselves driving in to Monopoli every night to eat at the wonderful restaurants there. Parking in the city can be a little challenging, but if you have some patience you can find a spot. The drive back and forth to the hotel was not a big deal. Just be careful on those traffic circles as people do not seem to yield. I have to add that when we were planning this trip we were wondering if we were making a mistake staying there and not staying in the neighboring towns such as Alberobello, Polignano a Mare, Ostuni, etc. While those towns are wonderful for day trips, if you want to be in a beautiful setting and away from heavy tourist areas, stay here and use it as a home base. Can't wait to stay there again. Highly recommend.
